The cage is a very well thought out design for this specific camera body. I have the R6 so I will be speaking from that perspective. The design is slim and wraps around the camera nicely. You know its there but its not bulky like others I've had for cameras in the past. You will have access to all the necessary ports and battery like is shown. You can open and swivel your rear LCD with out interference.Holding it in your hand is still comfortable. There are nicely placed threaded holes for securing nato rails, bolt on top handles, monitor mounts or a cold shoe for a mic. You can get an optional HDMI to micro HDMI cable that bolts onto the left side. This makes use a standard HDMI - HDMI cable for your external monitor so much nicer and safer. This helps solve one of my main gripes about the R5/R6 is the small fragile micro HDMI port. I use the battery grip a lot of this camera so its not compatible with that. If I wanna shoot light and fast and need the cage for accessories this has been a great addition for the few projects I have used it on so far. I will hopefully get to try it with the cage on using a Ronin R S2 gimbal soon. I don't foresee it interfering with balancing at all though. Hope this helps someone out. Cheers! PROS: - It very slim and form fitting - Light - Has mounting points where you need them. - Easy on and off. - Comes with a built in tool - Does not interfere with camera's function CONS: The one I got seems to be like a prototype or first run. The finish isn't that great compared to what I thought I was getting. Speckled and blotchy light powder coating. I dunno, maybe that's the finish they were going for but it doesn't look like a finished product. I would have expected a nicer satin black or semi black fully coated cage. Not a universal design (but that's why it fits so well) Some might say the price, as its almost double the other SmallRig cage they offer. However, the design of this one is definitely worth the extra cost hands down. Other than that I don't see any other cons at this time.

Although this is very sturdy, gives a great bit of protection as well as the ability to attach whatever you can think of to set up a rig, I think the baseplate could of been a little bit wider from back to front, if you have pretty a lens any bigger than pretty much a 50mm 1.8 it’s going to want to tip forward Making it annoying to stay in place when setting down. Other than that it’s a good cage.

This is a very well designed cage, super functional, lightweight. No only you can secure mikes, receivers, etc it also protects the camera's body.

I bought this for my 2nd R6 and I could not be more happier that I even bought few more smallrigh products. wish I did not lost the screw though! but overall, great product!

I just got it today and it’s already falling apart. It should only be esthetic because it is the small rig logo that is already coming off. I can’t see how any other part can break but shows the QC. Another problem I have is that the cold shoe dose not have a stop or any way to lock it down. This cold shoe is the main reason for buying and would have liked a bit tighter tolerances or a way to lock it down.
