  • LP burns hot!
I was in the swimming pool business back in the 80s in the early 90s. Teledyne Laars was the cream of the crop. For the money this is an incredible pool heater. I have a 27 foot round 17,800 gallon pool. With the temperature being 78° in the pool and not being much warmer outside the LP version raised the temperature two degrees an hour. I used to have a 175,000 BTU Teledyne Laars on a 30,000 gallon pool and I can honestly tell you it did not react as quick as this. I do have a 2 hp pump, which obviously re-circulates the water very quickly. I think a combination of that and propane supposedly burns a little hotter makes this thing a monster. ... show more

  • Not happy
When I bought this heater it was listed as a natural gas heater. I hooked it up and it wasn’t heating properly. I opened the front door on the heater and it’s got a sticker on the gas valve that says propane.

  • BUYER BEWARE
DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY!!! We purchased this Raypak heater last July and had it installed in August 2023. We closed our pool on Labor Day and put the heater in the basement. We used it about 1 week this 2024 season and it stopped working. It is still under warranty but after dealing with the company for about 1 month, they are saying it is our fault and are not going to fix or replace the heater. Their customer service is terrible, their product is terrible and I give them a zero out of five stars. BUYER BEWARE!!! ... show more

  • damage
driver deliver item to the front of my garage. it was completely wrapped in clear plastic plastic several times. I tipped him $10 . he was very friendly, and helpful. when I opened carton the heater was crushed at one end. it appeared to have been dropped although the outside cardboard seemed fine. it appears that the unit will work fine , but I'm worried that there might have been internal damage: like a broken curcuit board. thx ... show more

  • Solidly built, don't expect end user support.
Installed this Raypak heater as a replacement for another Raypak that survived 15 years with absolutely no problems. The installation was straightforward, inlet, outlet, gas line and plug. The unit is solidly constructed and like the one I replaced, has good access for service if needed. Raypak will not give customer support unless you are an installer, so it's true you are on your own if something goes wrong. The good news is that the schematics and components are pretty basic. Not for everyone, but given previous reliability and the almost-same construction of this one, I would not choose another brand. ... show more

  • Lasted six months
I bought this pool heater to replace a similar one that worked well for 15 years. This one started leaking at the heat exchanger after only six months and its manufacturer declined repairing it under warranty, claiming that the pool water chemistry was the problem. They also required me to have a technician take photos of the heat exchanger and said that they would reimburse me for the $200 charge, which they haven't. ... show more
