This was the best price of all I looked at so I expected junk. I purchased this for the purpose of locating metal (nails & staples) in pallet wood after I sawed into a nail and it shot pretty deep into my hand. This metal detector feels solid and it has some weight to it. The holster was a great addition. It has a flashlight which comes on automatically when you push the button to turn it on. It beeps and vibrates within 5-6” of metal. It shuts off automatically when you’re done. It’s so easy to find the metal and remove it before running it through my saw or destroying my sandpaper (or hand). I dropped an expensive router bit into a pile of saw dust on the floor today and I was able to find it fast. Before I got this, that bit would’ve likely been swept up and thrown away. Not wanting to spend the $100 plus dollars on a Garrett or Nokta pinpointer (I'm new to detetecting) I decided to pick up one of the cheap knock-off versions on Amazon to see if it's worth having (it is worth it).. There are basically two versions.. The one with just the push button (this version) and the one with the small LED screen.. Of course you can find them listed by different names by a hundred different sellers all at different prices.. but clearly they are all the same 2 products.. after reading reviews I decided the one with just the push button seems to work much better, plus I figured the screen is useless when you've got the thing down in a hole, and is one more thing to break/leak.. I picked this seller because it was the cheapest one I could find. First off... PUT IN A BRAND NEW QUALITY BATTERY... many reviews say the battery that comes with it isn't strong enough to make it work well.. mine didnt come with one, so I put in a brand new Duracell.. Simply push the button once and the light comes on and it beeps once to let you know it's working.. once it gets within few inches (1 to 3 depending on the size of the object) it starts beeping.. getting faster until your touching the object, where it almost goes to a solid tone.. even the side of the wand picks up items.. Simple to use, even the holster and cable that come with it work fine.. I can't say how it will hold up over time.. but we will see.. I think the one weakness would be the lack of true waterproofness.. The button looks pretty water tight, but I doubt the battery cover would be water tight if you got it fully submersed.. Also the opening around the LED light didn't look very water tight (or mud tight), so I put a good glob of super glue all around the led where it meets the housing to help seal it up.. ...and yes these are great..a real time saver chasing items around once you've dug your hole... ... show more

This did not come with batteries and took a little time to get it working. It works on detecting metal and some gold, but not all gold. I tested it on my Cartier and vca jewelry and it detected it but with tiffany jewelry and 14-18k gold or white gold, the detector did not pick it up.
