I have been sporting this mount for a few months now and have yet to have to reattach due to it falling down. I took this on a weeklong trip where we primarily ran dirt/gravel roads that were heavily rutted out, along with some more aggressive off-roading. Not once did the mount sag at all or move at any of the pivot joints, nor did it fall down. The X grip is substantial as well and holds the phone very securely. If you are like me and have gone through several other mounts through the years, just suck it up and buy this one. I’ve used the hard mount, B size balls, and X mount on motorcycles with zero issues. I bought two of these thinking they would be a slam dunk. Do not buy any suction cup system that did not include a reusable/removable adhesive coating on the suction cup. I have two different brand windshield mounts in 5 different cars and they have never, ever fallen off. Not once. Through summer heat and freezing cold. I stuck them on the windshield and they stayed there. Two redesign suggestions for this otherwise awesome product: 1: Add an removable & reusable adhesive to the suction sup so it literally never falls off 2: Protect the suction cup in packaging so it is not damaged during shipping. Both of the mounts I purchased had bent suction cups. Steam and a hair dryer could not repair them - they are permanently damaged. I tested these first on the shower door then in a safe place in the car where the car interior will not be damaged. These two mounts have fallen 3 times in 24 hours, which is not acceptable. This is really an awesome product - it works perfectly is a much more rugged environment (motorcycle handlebars) - but the suction cup needs a redesign in this iteration. I don’t want my car interior or my phones to be damaged, so I will be returning these. ... show more

    • Bulky, quirky suction, but overall great item!

I had a RAM mount years ago for a very heavy GPS navigation unit and even though the mount was a bit bulky it worked very well. Fast forward to several months ago. I had tried a few different cheapie suction-cup windshield cell phone mounts and was disappointed every time. The suction cups would not hold and the thin plastic parts broke. I started doing an internet search for a new mount and was prepared to spend more money this time. I came across the RAM website and looked around. My first impression of this mount when I saw it online was that it is a crazy overkill of materials just to hold up a cell phone that probably weighs 1/3 of what this beast weighs. I passed on by and surfed some other manufacturers but all of the products seemed very similar to what I had tried in the past. After being disappointed in available solutions, I went back to RAM. I decided to give this a try. I was not worried at all about the durability. I just kept thinking about how much of my windshield visibility will be blocked! After many months of use, I have become used to looking around this when clearing any blind spots. Of course I exaggerate how much it blocks my vision, but it does actually create a small blind spot with the phone mounted. I wasn't sure at first about the x-grip arms that hold the phone, but now I like them. I can quickly insert or remove the phone (but it is definitely a two-handed operation, DON'T try to insert the phone while driving!). The mounting system gives flexibility in phone position so you should be able to connect your charging cable no matter where your charging port is located. My one frustration is the suction cup. It stays stuck for weeks at a time, then suddenly decides to give up. I haven't yet figured out a way to fix this permanently. When I put the mount back up, I moisten the suction cup a little bit and it holds again for several weeks. It still looks bulky, but I use it in a Ford F-250 4x4 so it looks like it belongs there! Overall I'm happy with this purchase and I'm still not worried at all about it breaking. ... show more
