  • Sturdy, but needs bigger casters and better instructions.
Size: 27U-31’’Depth Color: Black-27U
I have the 27U version loaded up with three 2U and one 1U server, one 4U and one 2U drive array, a shelf for a non-rack UPS, and an Ethernet switch. Probably around 500 pounds exclusive of the rack itself, and it holds up to it all. BUT, the casters are WAY too small a diameter to move this thing easily on carpet when loaded (and they claim it will hold 700#). If you load it up with heavyweight stuff and have it in a carpeted area, leave some empty space at the bottom so you can get a vacuum in. There's going to be no moving it out weekly to clean under it. The instructions need to be better to help determine the top vs. bottom of the support posts. It DOES matter which end is up. Make VERY sure all the holes shown with bolts through them in the picture line up. Don't tighten the screws all the way down till you know you have it right. Some stickers on the pieces would make it even easier. I did manage to break the head off one bolt when tightening it, so they must not be hardened steel, which surprises me considering the specified load. All in all, a lot cheaper than most and way better than the wire shelf unit I had everything stacked on before this (except it had bigger casters). ... show more

  • Great for home lab
Size: 27U-31’’Depth Color: Black-27U
Measure your distance before assembly between front and rear post. I didn't. I had to disassemble part of it to adjust. When assembling, get all the screws started in the base prior to tightening. The rack is built with very little tolerance or give on the holes. Once you start tightening the screw all play is gone. Take your time. ... show more

  • Great sturdy rack, imperfect assembly
Size: 27U-17’’Depth Color: Black
This is a great budget rack. I need something simple that I could use in a closet, something that would be easy to move if need be. This rack fits all of those criteria. My issue is with the assembly. The instructions leave a bit to be desired, and unless I am doing something wrong, if you don't install the screws that hold the base to the feet in a certain order, you can't tighten them. Thankfully I have a right angle drill attachment and the correct size allen key, or else this would really be a nightmare to assemble. Also, no tools (allen keys) are included with this, so make sure you have one before you start. Additionally when I had tighten the horizontal screws from the feet pieces to the base uprights, the vertical screws still didn't fit in a couple of locations because the holes and the threads didn't line up. I stripped a couple of screws trying to tighten them, and left a couple out completely, hoping that what I had in there would be enough. Again, once together this is a nice sturdy entry level rack for AV equipment, but assembly is a bear. ... show more

  • Great Server Rack
Size: 27U-31’’Depth Color: Black-27U
This rack was very easy to assemble, but there were a couple little frustration moments due to finger-bolt-angle issues. But overall I couldn't be happier with this rack. I used three shelves (bought separately - rack has 4 generic rails but no shelves) as I didn't think the IBM rails would work (and they didn't) for this rack, the large APC battery on the bottom (no rails) and the smaller equipment went on the top shelf with monitor. The rack is very stable, can hold lots of weight, and it's easy to move around. Between the rack and three shelves I think I can start a screw/nut business - don't worry about not having enough! ... show more

  • Solidly built, good value, looks the part too.
Size: 27U-17’’Depth Color: Black
Unlike some, I didn't find the instructions at all tricky - it's a very straightforward build in fact. My advice - don't do up any screws tightly until you have the whole rack assembled, then use a framing square to align it all and then snug them up fully. The powder coating is very good quality, hardware is good (M6 and M8 is a good thing in my view - if you only have old fashioned Imperial stuff then you should probably stick to steam engines and old cars...) and the accuracy of component machining was better than most network racks I've built. The forming of the main verticals leaves loads of room for cable routing, which is great. There's also enough room in the base horizontals to put power bricks for those devices which use them, keeping a nice neat progression from power conditioning and switching at the base, to fast switching and data management towards the top. There are also plenty of spare holes for custom bracketry to be bolted to, if you want to add a fixed monitor, for example. The only really minor niggles I have are:- Pop in some more cage nuts and bolts please - those are nice, but most of us are going to be racking up more than a couple of shelves and a 1U server, and I hate mixing hardware. Wheels - just go up one size please, and I'll use these racks for the next build. Those roll reasonably well, but are a bit small for the weight this rack is clearly capable of supporting. Bottom line? A very good rack for a decent price, with excellent powdercoating and well thought-out design. ... show more

  • HD rolling rack - This won’t be the weak link.
Size: 15U-17’’Depth Color: Black-15U
This rack is extremely sturdy. Heavy well finished steel construction. Perfect smaller rack for A/V gear. Had to dock a star because the “instructions” are a single page with an exploded view image of the rack. Even the attempts at showing details really falls flat. I’m a fan of simple instructions, an image is really worth 1000 words. It just needs to be larger, and highlight a few key things. The main vertical rails have an orientation that needs to be considered during assembly. Some of the holes do not perfectly line up - so you may need to keep things lose until you get the bolts/screws started before tightening. When I say not perfectly lined up - we are talking about .1” at most - enough to require some slight “persuasion”. I don’t really mind this as it assures really tight connections that have essentially no slop. But it adds time and some slight frustration if you aren’t expecting it. At this price point, you get an extremely well built. If you need a heavy duty rolling rack that looks good - this is worth look. ... show more
