  • Works well!
Style: NVMe SATA SSD
I got the wrong one haha, but I guess it all works out just fine because it still works and it also offers a bit more ports so that’s always a good thing! Glad I purchased it! So far everything has been running smoothly. I haven’t purchased any extra storage because I don’t really need it as of now. But if I ever do I may update my review. God bless! ... show more

  • A couple of minor issues, but a nice addition to my M1 Mini.
Style: NVMe SATA SSD
Damn near impossible to get out of the box, had to rip it open. When installing the NvME card, the hole for the screw had no threads. I used double sided tape to secure it. Once all that was done, it works just as advertised. The NvME appeared as it should. I have several USB devices, speakers, backup SSD, CD/DVD drive, 2 Printers, so these extra ports are very useful. For the cost, a nice addition and it takes up no more desktop space. ... show more

  • SATECHI CONFIRMED FAULTY BATCH
Style: NVMe SATA SSD
March 2024 Satechi Technical Support emailed me: Following an extensive testing phase, we have identified batch-related issues in the PCBA assembly process at the manufacturing facility. At present, we are actively investigating the extent to which units from the affected batch may have been impacted. Regrettably, we are unable to offer replacements as a resolution at this time due to the ongoing investigation. As a interim measure, we are providing an option for returns with a refund as the sole troubleshooting avenue for addressing this issue. If the product was purchased on www.satechi.net, we can assist you with the return process. For products purchased on our Amazon Storefront, we recommend reaching out to their customer support for product returns. We deeply apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding as we work diligently to address and resolve the matter. Feb 2024 Update. Took me a little time to notice this but the hub greatly reduces the wifi reception to the Mac. After some experimentation simply placing the Mac on top does not seem to change much but once you plug in the hub the wifi is reduced by between 50 and 90% - it seems to vary for some reason. If you have a super fast wifi you may not immediately notice any difference but run a speed checker and the results are clear. I only noticed once the wifi slowed to a crawl i.e. the speed becomes variable for no obvious reason. Shame as the rest of it is great. Take the YouTube "reviews" with a pinch of salt! Bought to pair with my M2 Pro Mac Mini. Very easy to setup. The USB C lines up perfectly with the USB C on my Mac. Plugged it in and it worked. The NVME took less than a minute although I used my own screwdriver - great they include the right screw but I found the screwdriver fiddly in the space as it is not magnetic. I bought the WD Black SN850X 1TB to use and it is listed on Satechi's website as compatible. My error, I bought the one with built in heat sinc and it is slightly too big to fit the back plate back on! Anyhow I am running it without the cover and will see what happens. Speed wise it is good. The NVME is running at write speeds ~770MB/s and read speeds 725MB/s. The faster USB slots (Samsung USB 3.1) run at around 65 MB/s write and 200 MB/s read. The slower write around 25MB/s and read around 35MB/s. No obvious affect on the wifi. Looks good and matches the mac mini perfectly. ... show more

  • Works Great
Style: NVMe SATA SSD
I was surprised how well this works. The SSD slot was very accessible and easy to install with the included set screw and screwdriver to secure it. Perfect addition to my Mac Studio that quickly ran out of space. SSD transfer speeds have been very fast, and the added USB ports were needed for some older music equipment I have. ... show more

  • Convenient Spacesaver
Style: SATA SSD
This Satechi Type-C Stand & Hub with SSD Enclosure is an excellent replacement for my OWC Ministack STX. I have used these devices for my Mac Mini M1, and for my purposes the Satechi enclosure beats the Ministack hands down. If you need powered USB-C ports, though, the OWC unit is the choice. The Satechi enclosure has three USB-A and one USB-C ports in the front of the unit where a user can easily access them. The OWC unit has four USB-C ports in the BACK, where they are a pain in the butt to get to. The Satechi enclosure also has SD and mini-SD card readers, both lacking in the OWC unit. The internal M.2 SATA SSD slot of the Satechi enclosure works well for an Apple Time Machine backup drive. I use a Western Digital 2TB WD Blue SA510 M.2 SATA. It’s a bit unfortunate that Satechi has not upgraded this to the NVMe standard. But M.2 SATA still works well for backup. The biggest advantage of the OWC unit is that it has powered slots. Satechi does not. Well, OK. They have a watt or two so you can charge your iPhone. But you can't power your Macbook Pro from them. The Satechi slots are otherwise for data only. But in order to power the slots, the OWC Ministack STX requires an external power source. That requires an external power supply sitting on your desktop and an extra cable, creating additional clutter. Satechi includes a built-in short cable that is aligned to plug into one of the USB-C slots on the back of your Mac Mini. Furthermore, the OWC Ministack STX is bulky. Its bulk is because it contains a loud internal fan. So unless you need additional powered USB-C slots, look at the Satechi enclosure instead of the OWC Ministack STX. ... show more
