Description

The Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor Bundle is a perfect complement for the editor on the go. It interfaces with macOS or Windows editing systems running DaVinci Resolve, providing you with keyboard shortcuts and controls that speed up your editing, compared to using a mouse to navigate your edit system. The Speed Editor is small enough to take with you on location, and its built-in battery allows you to use it via Bluetooth for a wire-free connection. The Speed Editor can also connect to your computer via an included USB Type-C cable in case if you want to work hardwired, and the USB Type-C cable also charges the keyboard. The Speed Editor features dedicated push buttons that control the edit modes, timeline navigation, and effects of DaVinci Resolve. Additionally, these push buttons provide shortcuts to useful features available only on the Speed Editor. The built-in Search Dial is similar to the jog wheel often found on professional edit decks, but in conjunction with the push-button keys and DaVinci Resolve software, the search dial is much more powerful. Paired with the Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve 17 Studio is a major release with over 100 new features and 200+ improvements. The Color page features new HDR grading tools, AI-based magic mask for targeted grading, and a color warper. Fairlight provides a faster workflow with updated mouse and keyboard edit selection tools. Fairlight also has a next-generation audio engine and busing architecture with support for editing 2000 tracks in real time. Box Contains Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor USB Type-C Cable (4.9') 1-Year Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve 17 Studio (Activation Card) Activation Code

  • Finally using the Cut page in Davinci Res.
To preset this review: I am a director who also shoots and have through experience have become an advanced editor. I have a BS degree in Digital Cinema. Meaning I've been editing consistently since before Final Cut 7. I've used Sony Vegas, Adobe Premiere, FCP and even a few oddball NLE's over the years. I've owned 4 BMD camera so I am using DR Studio. I dove deep into Davinci Resolve in 2020 to edit my own feature film that I wrote & directed. I hoped it would save the Colorist some time. I was using a beta version of DR at the time. Consequently after editing for months I learned the DR keyboard shortcuts, customized some hotkeys and became pretty quick. I am now at an 80/20 split between keyboard and mouse when I am editing. When DR added the CUT page I tried for a while to get into it; the idea of speeding up my editing was very attractive. It's just never really worked for me and I'm used to learning new apps so didn't have the patience to force myself to learn it after a numerous tries. But now have a lot of videos to edit for clients and a documentary feature that I'm directing all hitting at this Q4/ end of the year . I bit the bullet and bought it. It came quick (the next morning by 11am. I watched a pretty good tutorial on YT that laid out the basics. I've been editing on it for 3 days now. Hardware: It feels well made, has old school tactile punchy keys, the shuttle wheel is as professional feeling and smooth as mentioned by others. It has to be charged up enough to kick in the bluetooth function. But comes with a USB-C cable making it easy to go right out of the box as it charges. It doesn't feel or behave like a cheap piece of hardware. Software: It really does make the DR Cut page fun and useful. I'm just assembling simple footage from 2 cameras. Haven't used the multi cam functionality yet but I think it will be faster than the Edit page for that too. It has plenty of basic editing functionality for assembly in the DR Cut page but it doesn't seem to be great for the Edit page. If none of that makes sense, don't worry about that, it comes with a key to the latest version of Davinci Resolve Studio. (18 for me). I had it already but if you want to get into quick editing for short videos like Social media or something then this is well worth it. It makes the hyper advanced Davinci Resolve also a great option for simple basic editing for non-professional, hobbyists and you've got no subscription fees and all you need to grow if you are willing to learn. Summary: I'm now using the Cut page and I am liking what it does now. This is a simple tool that is easy to use. If you have basic editing skills or even limited skills it will simplify the process of assembling a video. I have already started to find unique ways to use this. This is really good for going through a lot of footage and putting together a quick assembly edit. Exactly what I need it for to finish a project with lots of videos by the end of the year. I'm not sure if it will be "faster" than what I was doing already in terms of advanced detailed editing, but if it definitely can make assembly editing a joy again. The software that comes with it is taking over the industry in my opinion. If you are a REAL VIDEO ENTHUSIAST or professional, then this is well worth the price for saving you time and increasing your productivity. For example, DR can transcribe an interview., very quickly. Then you can search through that text document for a word like "conference" and with the speed editor quickly pull the portions of the interviews that are right for your current scene. It can save a ton of time sifting through footage by simple searching for the right words. Doing that with the speed editor is much faster and more efficient than it was with the edit page and just the keyboard/mouse. I think this can pay for itself in in 1-2 paid projects with the time-savings and productivity to increase your profitability. If you just want to make assembly editing more fun and less of a drag, it depends on if you have enough free cash to make the investment worth it for you. If you are a naturally slow mouse-based editor, stop reading and get your card out... you need this thing! ... show more

  • It’s cool, but lacks instructions.
Documentation is lacking. For a novice like myself it’s an exercise trial in trial and error. For experienced editors, it’s likely easy to use.

  • Should have done this a long time ago.
Fabulous unit with a learning-curve for sure. I'm somewhat familiar with the free version of DV so think should not be too bad. This is just beautifully engineered software, with a slick and clean user interface. That it has been used in the production of many familiar TV series speaks volumes about its acceptance. One minor note: while the current listing shows that the package comes with DaVinci 17, it in fact arrived at my door with the full version of DaVinci Studio 18!! I'm slowly working into using the Speed Editor. Its hefty weight and well thought out keyboard, and the smoothest toggle control ever, make this a wonderful piece of kit. It will take a long time to completely "learn," if ever, but should be working for me for years. ... show more

  • It's A No Brainer

  • Worth every penny!
I just do video editing for fun, I'm not a professional and while I do create some content for YouTube, it's just for sharing with friends and family. When I bought this speed editor, I thought it would probably sit idle on my desk and I would regret the purchase after the "whoopie" factor wears off. I couldn't have been more wrong. For the little editing I do, and the time I've spent going through the Davinci Resolve tutorials, this thing has been worth every penny. If I had to do it all over again, I would buy it just for the jog wheel alone. The license for Davinci Resolve Studio was the icing on the cake. The unit is well built and doesn't feel "cheap" in any way. If you spend any amount of time using Davinci Resolve, I would certainly recommend a speed editor. ... show more

  • Game changer for video editing
I had been thinking about switching to Resolve for awhile, as it seemed to be the new hotness. Using the free version, I was convinced very quickly. The free version doesn't work with all of the video formats and outputs though, so you need the studio version. You can get there by way of $300, or buy any Blackmagic hardware. The price varies from same to $100 more, so this is a great entry point. But the real win is the way this changes how you edit. I think Resolve is already a more logical tool than Premier Pro, but this makes everything faster and easier. It's the reason that the cut page exists. You can move around the timeline and edit with great precision, and make adjustments fast once you know how all of the keys work. I mean, don't like the out point of that thing you just added? Hold down "trim out" and whirl the dial. The unit feels super solid, like a 90's tape edit controller from Sony or Panasonic. The dial has weight and you can feel your movement. ... show more

  • Great for editing
For those of us who learned to edit with buttons and a shuttle, this is great! It sped up my process very well.

  • Insane value!!!
Basically, you are getting a free piece of hardware to go along with the best video editor. The free version of DaVinci is already amazing. The studio version has ridiculous features that make the upgrade worth it.
