My teenage son has had this R36MAX Retro Handheld Game Console for about a month now, and he's giving it a solid 3*. My review is based solely on his impression, since he's the gamer critic in the family. For starters, he deducted a star because it won't connect to wi-fi. Although there are "network" options in the settings menu, he doesn't think there's even a wi-fi chip in it. He's tried everything, and it simply doesn't connect. He deducted another star because the DS games, that use split screen (on the actual DS), are clunky at best. It took some trial and error to figure out how to see the bottom screen (you have to toggle it). The loading screen is laggy, and sometimes takes a couple attempts of 'black screen' to get a game to pull up. He also said that some of the games are in different languages, with no way to change it to English. One game he gave up on because it was entirely in Chinese. Overall, he was impressed with the sheer quantity and variety of games from Pokemon Black, to Tetris, to Super Mario Bros, Grand Theft Auto .. and thousands in between. He'll probably play it on the airplane (safe, since no wi-fi). But for the most part it's a novelty gadget & he'll stick with his name brand licensed consoles for the bulk of his gaming.

Massive collection of games and more can be added, this Retro handheld is great for on-the-go gaming or just for nostalgia purposes. Some games & emulators are rather slow and a little glitchy. In my opinion, it isn't worth it. While it's a handy and cool console, the slow frame rate ruins the fun.

Excellent introduction to hand held simulators, most games work, not all I wished did, but most. Age rangs, anyone from the 1980's that flooded the arcade looking for more than pinball!
