My grandson was GIVEN a very old piano that has that Ragtime Honky Tonk sound, which is caused from being out of tune across the entire sound board. That’s okay. We’re a musical family and decided we could use that sound. However, one note (F# below middle C) just made me cringe. I tried various sockets and could never find one that I trusted. I ordered this set and within a minute had that note “fixed.” Yes, the handles shorter than I’d hoped, but I’ll find a 6” piece of pipe to put over the handle as a cheater-bar. The wedges seemed to not fit well to deaden just on side of the string. But I play the piano and know little about tuning. So take it for what it’s worth. Bottom line: It fixed my one string. It didn’t break the bank. I wouldn’t use it if you need to do an entire tuning.

The items work but just wished the handle was longer. Really difficult to tighten or loosen the strings just a little with a short handle.

I would personally have liked the shaft to be longer to allow for more accurate tuning, but for the price this is sturdy and gets the job done well, so no real complaints!

Needed a tuning for my piano. Didn't want to spend much (or anything) . Bought the tuner kit for about 11 dollars and with a little work, my piano sounds much better. The tuning ratchet is a little small in the handle so that you have to use more energy to get the right torque, but so what. I have more energy and little cash. Worked out well for me.

This did what it was meant to do, at the absolute lowest price possible. It came with everything I needed to tune my childhood upright piano, and I was able to successfully use it. I enjoyed using the rubber mutes and temperament tape and those all worked well. I liked that the mutes came in two sizes—the smaller ones on sticks, and the larger ones without. However, I agree with the other reviewers that the tuning hammer is way too short, and the head is a bit too loose, so it was difficult to use, especially since my piano hadn't been tuned in almost 20 years so the pins were pretty stiff. It required a ridiculous amount of force because of how short it was, and probably made it harder to be precise than it should have.

I was thrilled to be able to get my piano back in more reasonable tune. However, I think a longer handle on the wrench would allow you to make more accurate adjustments. This one being so short means you have to apply a lot more force to get leverage, and lack the ability to make much finer adjustments so you end up overshooting the correct pitch too easily.
