  • Fast 3D Prints, Extraordinary Value, Super Quiet
The media could not be loaded. First, the Smart 3 came very well packaged and initial setup was straightforward using the QuickStart guide and on-screen interface. Only issue I had was getting the z-axis calibration using the provided card exactly right… a better example and more detailed instructions in the guide would help newbies get this right the first time. For me, this is the perfect size for printing various small parts I use to prototype products as a maker. The space savings means I can fit three of these Smart 3 printers side by side instead of two units, should I choose to use a bank of them for production line (three Smart 3 printers for less than $900! What an incredible value !! It’s super quiet compared to the open frame printers like the MK2. I keep the top and door closed but they can both be opened if air flow or cooling is needed. For PETG, it works well keeping the heat (and noise) well contained inside the attractive Smart 3 enclosure. PETG prints that sometimes stuck to the MK2 PEI coated bed now just pop right off, especially easy using the removable, flexible magnetic bed plate, which is fantastic. The Smart 3 is also relatively quiet, I’d estimate 10 times quieter than the MK2, while also being 3 times faster at PETG prints. It’s quieter overall, even with the printer’s enclosure top and front covers both open, and when fully enclosed, the printer is very quiet. The base plate being printed in the video took 3 hours on my Prusa i3 MK2, which is a great printer, albeit a bit older device. Smart 3 prints that same base plate in an hour, 3 times faster using PETG. The magnetic, flexible, removable bed plate is awesome too. Parts do not get stuck and the rough surface provides a great balance of sufficient adhesion during print yet doesn’t stick like on a PEI or glass surface. On the print bed size, it’s the perfect size for rapid prototyping and development, as my printed parts tend to be relatively small. The QIDI Slicer app is fantastic and very feature full and very similar to Prusa Slicer. Finally, QUDI Support has been awesome, as has the community support. Given the affordability, speed, low noise, high quality prints and support, this is, by far, the best value in 3D printing available today. I will definitely be getting more of these printers and Highly Recommend. 1-8-24 Update Had the Smart 3 for less than a week, love it more than ever!! 2-20-24 Update After weeks of intensive printing, at up to 133% of my already max’d out PETG print speed, I printed a single-piece, 180-degree hinge (see attached 4-shot pic). Amazing this hinge can be printed as a single piece, and (after a little crack is heard the first time lol), the hinge performs smoothly and perfectly. And the printed hinge is very strong. Only thing that I haven’t loved so far is changing filaments. It’s a bit of a hassle because the spool is on back of unit and filament feeds through a tubing system, which is fantastic by the way. The tradeoff is having to cut the filament by either disconnecting the tube at print head or clipping it on the backside then manually feeding and burning through the filament still sitting in the tube. Just wanting it to be easier… ... show more

  • Incredible 3d printer
The media could not be loaded. Long term update: I bought the original in march and then purchased an updated unit in august. Its now November. I wanted to share some long term thoughts. Maintenance: This printer is extremely easy to maintain. Get a bottle of IPA, spray and wipe rods until the black is gone. Beyond that, you don't really need much maintenance. My other printers need the rods cleaned and greased, whereas this just needs them cleaned. There are metal rods too that do need grease, but they require less maintenance than most printers. It stays extremely clean since its fully enclosed. I remove the top when printing PLA or PETG and leave it on when not in use. updates and continued service: Qidi continues to update the slicer, which is a HUGE benefit. This may not seem like much, but 3d printing is constantly evolving. The slicer will automatically incorporate new tricks to increase reliability, speed and quality. Im not sure how other people tweak the settings on their own. There are only a few companies that push updates like Qidi does. To me, thats essential. You can also email Qidi support with a problem, and they will help explain how to fix it, or possibly avoid the issue in the future. I dont have time to google every little tweak and i dont even know how to phrase some printing quirks i encounter. Its nice having Qidi read and translate my concerns and provide a detailed explanation. speed: no complaints here. This is faster than my prusa mk4 on some prints. The models are still STRONG even when printed at speed. Who is this for: everyone. its an excellent first printer based on size, cost, service and ease of use. This is my goto starter printer recommendation. I do recommend it to people with enders who have frequent issues and just want a printer that works. Its also great for someone who wants to print ABS. Since its a corexy printer, you can print detailed models with greater success since the bed doesnt move like the common bedslinger design. *** Original review below*** Qidi x-smart 3 This is my 2nd Qidi x-smart 3 printer. I bought my 1st one when they first launched in April. It’s been a workhorse and my goto printer since. This printer has been out of stock and hard to get. I purchased a 2nd unit when they were available on Amazon. Qidi added some new hardware updates. - now has a case fan. - better belt tensioning screws - metal plate on underside has more cutouts (for cooling?) and is now painted. - improved hotend - new bed leveling probe - still incredibly fast. - textured build plate feels a bit grippier. Not sure if it’s just old vs new, but it’s great as my other one. I am extremely happy with my original xsmart 3. These hardware updates are bonuses. General highlights: - this printer is FAST. Incredibly fast. - input shaping - easy to use - no upgrades needed - has built in light - included leveling program to simplify bed leveling. - email support that responds with pictures and videos. Their support is a huge benefit to the Qidi brand. - ready to print out of the box My main complaint has been the old Qidi print slicer. It was based on cura and ran slow. Qidi now has a prusaslicer based slicer called “Qidi Slicer”. It’s quick to open, fast to slice, and overall easier to use. I’ve had 4 Qidi printers now. Over a dozen different printers total in the past 3 years. Qidi is one of the easiest brands to recommend since you get the full package. No required upgrades and you get excellent support. The x-smart 3 takes up very little space. It has an enclosure to keep hands away and generally keep the printer clean and free of dust. Abs: this is hands down the best printer I’ve ever used for ABS. No warp, no fuss, it just works. Pla: remove the top cover for pla. The printer itself reminds you of this. The new case fan will also start during pla prints. It just works. I don’t know how this printer zooms by so fast and provides this level of detail. Speeds: This is my fastest printer. I have two Prusa MK4 printers and this xsmart 3 shaved an hour off the mk4 time for a drippy bucket. Drippy bucket at default settings. Xsmart 3: 2 hour 22 minutes Prusas mk4: 3 hour 27 minutes Ender 3 pro: 13 hour 15 minutes Filament notes: Shiny Silk filament doesn’t like to print fast. Qidi brand “rapido” filament is one of the best filaments I’ve used. At $25 a roll, it’s not the cheapest. I’d say it’s the best in the price point. It’s similar quality to the $35-40 rolls. The printer has a built in leveling program. More printers need built in features like this. Leveling the bed is the hardest thing for a newcomer and Qidi makes that easy. When you printer, you have the option to checkbox bed leveling probe or to skip it. I normally skip it unless I’m switching from pla to abs. The removable textured pei sheet is great. It works with pla and ABs without issue. I do not use glue stick anymore for abs. No issues. I’ve been running this nonstop since I got it and it’s been excellent. Maintenance: Get a bottle of IPA to wipe down the carbon fiber rods. Qidi instructs you to spray then wipe. Repeat until you don’t see any residue on the paper towel. This is an enclosed printer, so it does an excellent job of staying clean. I don’t need to clean this as much as my other printers. Who this is for: Beginners, heavy users, print farms, and anyone who wants a plug and play printer. I was able to start printing in about 10 mins. The printer instructs you through the general stages. It also has popups to help you learn. I’d suggest sticking with Qidi nozzles if you ever need to replace them. Qidi also has a smooth pei sheet. I considered buying it, but the included textured sheet is perfect. Zero complaints. I’ll continually update this review as time goes on. Qidi has been releasing new firmware and software updates since this printer released in April. ... show more
