  • Possibly the worst printer
Size: Q2 Combo
I could not hate this printer any more. I received it and had to suffer its existence within my space for the remainder of its time here. It vexed me at every opportunity. Nothing was easy. Nothing was painless. This was not my first 3D printer, but in the first 24 hours of owning it, I received every printing problem you can have. - Errors extruding - Errors booting - Errors with Klipper - Errors with the firmware - ERRORS BOOTING UP - Errors loading filament - Filament jams - Printing spaghetti - Printing air Perhaps the funniest error is that this printer continually failed to load filament because the bowden tube that they sent me and that they specified I use in the manual by name was too long, and so whenever the Qidi box would start to load the requested filament, you could watch the filament work its way from the Qidi box to the filament buffer, up into the machine, and *almost* make it to the print head before an error would appear indicating "Failed to load filament. Retry?" and sure, you could hit retry and it would work, but that meant having to babysit every multi-color print to wait for failure and hit retry on *every color change* - Wildly unacceptable. I shortened the tube and that fixed that problem, but everything else also sucked too, so it didn't do me a ton of good. The screen's errors are super ambiguous. There is zero polish to the messaging on the errors. Many of them looked like developer debug statements more than they were informational. Also the buttons were ambiguous. I would receive a screen like "If filament loaded" with action buttons like "Confirm" and "OK" - like, what is the difference between confirm and ok? No way of knowing. I got enough errors that I was able to try it both ways, and while both of them seemed to clear the screen, neither of them seemed to do anything else useful. Sometimes it would complain "Oh no, whatever error happened" and it would give you options like "Restart Klipper" and "Restart Firmware" -- which one should I choose, and when? They are expecting me to know? (Neither seemed to fix the problem, anyway, but reboots eventually did.) The printer comes with an ethernet port, which is NICE, but even connected to the ethernet port and attached to my very high-quality local network, it would frequently lose remote connection to the printer and show a '404' error where the printer monitoring utilities should have been. The Qidi box is loud and obnoxious. I've seen some Youtubers portray it as "industrial" sounds in a way to soften their impact, but as I keep my printer in my office, I had multiple people on video calls ask me "what the hell was that?" when it tried to initiate a color change, at which point I would explain to them what it was and then also beg their pardon while I had to get up to go hit retry because every color change would fail. It is unbearably loud, even compared to the Bambu AMS units, which are also loud (though much less often.) Anyway, I cannot recommend this printer. I hate this printer. I hate what this printer has done to my everlasting soul, and tho I will try to forgive this printer its trespasses, I also hope for its eternal damnation, such that I never have to see it or anything like it ever again. ... show more

  • Working as advertised!
Size: Q2 Combo
If you approach this printer with the expectations that some hands on will be required and that you'll need to do a little more "manual labor" setting it up and getting some initial prints out, you will enjoy the experience more. The printer itself is every bit as good as any other enclosed, single nozzle 3d printer. The "lack" if any, is a reduced integration with your phone/tablet, source of print models, etc. You absolutely can get models off of the Bambu or Prusa sites if you want. It will just take a few more steps. But in return for that, you pay 1/2 or more, less, than other leading printer brands offering the same features. You can print fully locally (either home wifi or physical USB thumb-drive). There is are decent sized Reddit groups for QIDI and QIDI-Q2. As for the delivery and setup itself, the unit arrived with no external damage. The printer itself was easy to setup. Just note that you don't have to wait until the very end to power it on. Since it was previously factory-reset, it knows you are doing an initial setup and the I/O LCD pad will illustrate steps to complete your setup. I didn't know this and used a number of trips to YouTube to watch what the LCD screen would have walked me through. Setting up the 4 spool filament box is a "bit" more involved, but, again, take your time and reach out to Reddit, and YouTube, as needed. You're really only doing this once, so no rush. And do watch the PTFE tubing! It is so easy to kink it. I have thus far only printed PLA and PETG, but have had no adhesion issues. I always auto-level at the beginning of each print. Takes only 2-3 more minutes. Also, while I have had no failed prints do to this, humidity is a real thing. You have to do some drying before printing (or, rather, you *should*). I ran some 35-ish % R/H PLA through about an hour at 45c and that just wasn't enough to prevent a decent amount of stringing. Easy enough to clean, after, but when I put it 2-3 hours at 45c for the PLA and 4-6 hours for the PETG, the printing is effectively seamless. As of this review I have about 70 hrs and a handful of prints. Not a lot, but 0 hardware, software or filament failures. I bought Sunlu PLA and PETG. ... show more
