As a late 20-something on a tight budget, I’ve tried a bunch of less expensive thermometers over the years & at various relatives homes, but finally got frustrated with their shakey accuracy and/or how quickly they break. After this one, I’ll never look back! This is 100% worth the price point. And it rivals the instant thermometers I used in professional sensory testing kitchens in college. Mine has been working perfectly for almost a year now, and it’s become my go-to housewarming gift for all my friends. I was a little worried that it was only described as “water-resistant,” since I’m definitely not the neatest cook. But I’ve rinsed the full base of mine under running water at least a few times now (only times it was really sticky!), and can confirm the display didn’t get all water-logged or foggy like i was worried about! Normally, i do just wipe down the probe portion with soapy water. The only criticism I have is that the magnet isn’t super strong, so it doesn’t stick to my fridge without sliding down when the door is opened. (It would probably stick to a metal grill though). I didn’t take off any starts because I don’t really care about to the magnet, (it was easily fixed by hanging it on a Command hook instead), but just a heads up for those who are really interested in that feature. Seriously though, if your hesitating between this and a cheaper model, just get this one. You won’t be disappointed and it will last much longer! ... show more

I love how fast this works. Not only that, but today at work, I accidentally dropped it into the fryer. I thought it was going to be ruined. A coworker pulled it out with metal tongs. It didn't melt at all! I didn't think it would work after that, but it was TOTALLY fine. I checked it in ice water and it registered quickly at 32 degrees! I have a totally different one I use on the outdoor grill, but this one is handy around the kitchen to get a good, fast accurate read when needed. Fairly small and compact so stores easily. Works well, fast, easy to read. Meets all my indoor needs.

For many years we've used a certain type of OXO digital thermometer that we liked, but it seemed to need regular replacing (got a little wet, just randomly died, button stopped working, etc). We decided we needed something a bit higher quality, and my wife ordered this one. Not thinking anything of it one day when I needed the thermometer, I opened the drawer to find this one. I was instantly impressed. The build quality is clearly superior, immediately feeling substantial and well built. It's easy to use, just open it up like a folding knife and it comes on. You immediately know it's accurate because it matches what I know to be the air temp in the house when opened. It changes instantly when placed in the food to be tested. I used it over the weekend to verify the existing temperature probe we have for meat in our smoker, and it was within 2 degrees of the probe temp every time I checked. I didn't even realize it's magnetic until it stuck to the side of our stove one day, which is another cool feature. The ability to fold the probe away is also nice to help prevent accidentally poking yourself or things in the drawer. I'm sure it also protects the probe long-term. We've only had it for a short time so I can't comment on long-term reliability, but so far I'm not concerned that it will last much longer than our OXO did. Seems very well built and accurate. A very durable and easy to use instant read thermometer. Only takes a few seconds for accurate readings to appear. Feels good in the hand during use. Has a very nice and easy to read backlit display. Auto sleep and motion activated wake are nice features to have during active use cooking. Feature packed but reasonably priced as well.
