  • Highly recommended, excellent comfort, quality, value and customer service!
I am very impressed by the chair and the company. Exceptional value, probably the best chair under $150 (on sale) First about the company. It is not common nowadays to have a company that has superb customer service. ProtoArc was very prompt and responsive to my request (see bellow) Next the chair itself. I purchased about half a dozen chairs during the recent Amazon discount day, since I have a bad back which is very sensitive to my posture and my sitting position. Each one of these chairs, with the exception of ProtoArc, was a "standard" CCC (Cheap Chinese Crap). cheap quality, cheap packaging, difficult to understand instructions, lacking in quality control. one chair had a tiny sphere of steel ("weld splatter") that got stuck inside the thread and I could not even screw the bolt. Another chair had a damaged part. yet another had very soft steel bolts that were easily stripped. none was comfortable for me. some made my back sore after a few minutes. The ProtoArc was the heaviest chair by far, indicating thicker materials The packaging was the nicest, high quality box, not just plain cardboard, each and every part was packaged in an individual clearly labeled bag made of non-woven fabric or in its own box, protecting the parts (unlike cheap nylon bags that offer no protection). It seems that a lot of care and thoughtfulness went into the packaging. In this case you can judge the chair by the cover, and the weight... Very thoughtful packaging and very clear labeling of the bolts and the tool, easy to understand and follow instructions. Build quality was perfect, no issue with any of the parts, everything fit perfectly, faster and easier to build than the others. Once built, it is very sturdy and solid. One of the other chairs, the plastic parts were so soft that the bolt deformed the plastic and worked itself into the hole (I kept tightening but felt very little resistance). whereas the ProtoArc plastic was much more solid and dense (heavier), and the bolts were the proper size head to prevent them from deforming the plastic part. Lastly, and most importantly, the ProtoArc was the most comfortable chair out of all the ones I tried, including much more expensive ones. (fyi I am 6ft even, 170lb, fairly skinny) It has all the right adjustments: The tension of the reclining back is adjustable, whereas some others did not have a way to adjust the tension on the back, and I kept falling backwards when I leaned on the back. The ProtoArc has an adjustment for the seat depth (I have long legs/thighs). The headrest has plenty of adjustments, and a very smart ratched like mechanism, it does not move backward, unless you pull it all the way and then it unlocks the ratchet mechanism. Armrest have only has height adjustment, but you can adjust the position when you build it because of elongated slots instead of a circular hole. The widest position of the armrest was perfect, the armrest padding is nice and thick. one chair had no adjustments for the armrest, and another chair that had front/back and swivel adjustments but the mechanism was so flimsy that the armrest kept moving and swiveling which was very annoying. The only minor issue for me was that the seat bottom was a bit too firm for my skinny old butt... several reviews mention the firm seat bottom, so I guess that it is not only my butt, yet one person found the foam too soft? ProtoArc offers a free lumbar pillow if you need one for this chair, but not a seat cushion. I contacted them, and they promptly sent me the seat cushion, a $55 value! I will not hesitate to purchase any other product from this company. ... show more

  • More than just a Good budget chair
So far this chair has been amazing especially for the price. It took about 40 minutes to put together, very straight forward and the included Alen key that isn't one is really nice if you don't have a socket or drill. I like the adjustable lumbar feels like It really is supporting as well as the adjustable seat depth I'm not hanging off the back. This chair compared to other chairs like racing or gaming is just miles better. the seat is large so you can spread your legs out without something digging in your side. fairly good build quality strong screws I like the extra few that you get just in case. The packaging was almost overly nice almost something you would get for a high end laptop. It looks really nice blends in there is no white at least here but for me that was a non issue. the only downside is no leg rest but that's it everything else is perfect. If you have a gaming chair just switch to this huge mistake buying those. ... show more

  • Crazy good value, one comfort caveat
For this price I can't imagine finding a better general office chair. It has adjustable (height) arm rests, lumbar support, head rest, and seat depth, which combined are hard to find even in chairs costing $100 more than this. Now, for some people it won't be perfect. If you're looking for a lounge chair with thick cushions and padding this certainly isn't that. It's a classic office chair, comfortable and ergonomic, so if you want one of those "executive" chairs you sink into with the thick padding then look elsewhere. My one complaint though is that despite all of the features, despite everything you can adjust, the lumbar support overall is pretty uncomfortable. No matter how I sat for the first week - proper posture, slouched, leaning forward - nothing ever felt comfortable whether I had it on the lowest or highest setting. Always it felt like there was a rock being pushed into some part of my back. I looked around and found that the company apparently doesn't support taking the lumbar support off entirely, which makes it very obnoxious to do so if you want to. That being said, you can remove the lumbar support brace, it's just not a fun experience because you have about a 1-2" gap to get an angled ratchet screwdriver in behind the mesh (careful not to rip it), lined up with the screw hole, and then to loosen it enough that the slide can be removed. Even with the smallest ratchet screwdriver and bit I could find, and with experience working in tight spaces on equipment repairs, it was such a pain that I removed a single screw and then refused to do any more, so the padding just sort-of dangles off the back of the chair now. But wow, it's so much more comfortable without that "support". ... show more

  • Best chair under $300?
I took a gamble after coming across good reviews for the EC100. I bought this with my own money and one of the first to post an actual none paid opinion. At first glance I knew it was something special. The packaging is superb and expensive. Including black button bags for everything and lots of foam I'm 6'2 175lbs. The chair overall is very good and comfy but I do have a few small issues. No matter the seat adjustment I'm always sitting on the last 2inchs of the cushion. And it's hard and uncomfortable. I have to use an aftermarket seat cushion to add more length in the back Second issue is the arm rest while very large, and soft which is great. They are to far forward. My arms are at my side when I sit naturally. These sit way out past the back mesh. This leads to hunching over. Also wish they rotate but for what I paid that's OK. Just fix them being way to far forward Overall great construction, strong build quality, 5 year no worries warranty. And comfortable after a few adjustments (mostly adding length to rear of seat). The adjustable seat, headrest and lumbar are VERY Good. Probably best chair under $300. I returned a Lazy Boy Joel to staples cause this chair destroys it and was much cheaper ... show more

  • Pretty good!
It’s been great for the money so far! It’s decently comfortable, but after many hours gaming or watching youtube, I definitely have some discomfort BUT for the price nothing has really came as close to great as this chair has to me. Ergo settings work well, feels sturdy and putting it together was pretty solid too If mine broke, I would buy it again. ... show more

Thoughts Day 1: Great chair! adjustable tilt, lock, and back support. comfortable. simple, modern design. Im all about minimalism. decent material quality. everything seems balanced and well put. easy assembly, should take no more than 30 minutes. spent months looking for a proper chair. went through 3, either returned or gave away. this has made the best first impression. will update review if anything changes. ... show more

  • Bad Lumbar support & Uncomfortable seat.
I wanted to like this chair, but the lumbar support feels awkward, and the seat is too firm for my liking. It’s more soft in the front of the seat, but hard where you actually sit. I can’t sit in it for more than an hour without pain. Build quality seems decent though. The seat can adjust forward if needed, which helps taller people. The unlocked reclining is fine, but the Lock steps aren’t in great spots, the first one after upright is too far back in my opinion. The mesh feels great, and the headrest is very comfortable. The chair also smelled of chemicals when I opened the box. ... show more

  • Good chair for the price!
Pros: - tall backrest, i have a tall back so the backrest was a good height for me - easy to assemble - nice (usable!!!!) headrest - affordable! - big soft cushion - comfortable!! (only after removing lumbar support, see cons for more info) Cons: - lumbar support is too aggressive, even at lowest setting, had to destructively remove it, recommend protoarc to make the lumbar removable by default without ripping it out. - armrest is good for me, but its not adjustable at all except for height, so might not be a good match for others - cushion gets hot, but im also a warm person so maybe good for others - cushion is big and supportive, but could be a little firm for people after sitting for a few hours (why sit for that long anyways) This is very excellent for the price though, definitely consider this if you don't want to shell out 1000 bucks for a herman miller or something. ... show more
