  • Satisfied, Does The Job
Style: 150lb
Well made, quiet so far, and the 150# is plenty for me right now. There's no way to tell anyone which resistance to choose. I'm pushing 60 and arthritis is coming on strong. 1 year ago this would not have been enough and if I had waited another year it would be too much. I can say it's well constructed and the knurling on the grips provides good traction and does not tear up my hands until my hands get tired, then my grip is not as good and there's slippage due to lack of strength by which time it's time to stop. I do not (cannot so far) use these for dozens of reps as I believe from my experience that high reps are not good for arthritic joints. When I get to where I can squeeze out 20 reps it will be time to move up. I used to have grips from a sporting goods store which I could knock out high reps and much prefer these. ... show more

  • Easy to use even for small hands
I have very small hands and I am able to grip it fairly easy and use with no problems. The knurled aluminum grip is a bit rough on my hands but I read someone else's review about taping them so I'm going to give that a try. I got the 100lbs one, and if you are a beginner or have small hands I would not go hight than that right away. The construction is solid, the grips are mettle so there is no plastic to break and no sharp edges to worry about. ... show more

  • Good, quality item and good price
I don't weightlift or even have a gym membership, but I play pickup sports, especially baseball so as I get into my mid-30's (I'm a guy, this is my wife's account), I wanted to start building some strength in my otherwise atrophied forearms and wrists. I've only had this item a couple of days, but I can say it's well-built and astounding for the price. From my brief research, it seems there are two types of hand grippers -- the plastic-handled weight-adjustable ones that run $10 or less -- and the more serious-looking aluminum ones like this and the Captains of Crush, which apparently are the industry standard. Problem is, that latter category runs you $20 and up. The former is geared more towards rehabilitating or maintaining a good grip and insufficient to build real strength over the long run. Anyway, point is these are a good price point. I'm happy with my purchase. If I need to move on from the 100LB set, I will but that's a problem for another day -- maybe never. ... show more

  • Cheapest heavy grip strengthener I could find
I bought the 100 pound version and found it to be good as a beginner. Within in three weeks, I can do over 50 reps with each hand and am ready to move on to a higher weight. PROS: Cheap, works as intended. CONS: Very aggressive handle texture that gave me blisters. I ended up wrapping the handles in athletic tape and it is no longer an issue. After a few days of use, it began to squeak with each rep. I put some oil on the springs and solved the issue. Overall, you cannot beat the price. It is around 1/2 the price of its competitors. Considering that I outgrew it in less than a month, I am glad that I bought this brand and not a more expensive one. It's not perfect but it will get the job done ... show more

  • Great price and a great workout, be careful which version you get
Style: 150lb
I'm moderately in shape so didn't think I should start with the wimpy 100 pound version, even though I had no idea what these would end up like. I got the 150 instead and it's hard! For some context, I'm 5'10", 165 and can bench my body weight maybe 5-8 times. I've been using it for a week at the office when I'm bored and have made pretty quick progress. I was only able to do one rep at a time at first, but now can get up to 5 per hand. I figure I'll keep going until I can do 20 per set and then buy the 200 pound one. The packaging on this is kind of cheap, but the device itself is well built. I'm not sure why people would pay 3x as much for the name brand version, I'm very happy with my purchase. ... show more

  • 100lbs to begin works for a male.
As our society has stopped writing, I noted that my left hand which used to be dominant and used for writing on a daily basis has lost a significant amount of strength when compared to my right hand. In addition, I was born with a genetic defect of sorts with my pinkies. Due to this lack-of-use the pinky on my left hand is often painful and oftentimes out of place. This bothered me, so I picked up one of these to accomplish something while relieving stress. I did read some reviews of Hand Grips and it was suggested to start out below 100lbs. I guess for some people this would have been accurate, but anything less than 100lbs would have required absolutely zero effort. This is great stress relief for me while sitting at my desk, and the pain and functionality in my left hand now matches that of my right. I will one day have to visit a doctor to look at my pinky fingers, but in the meantime I atleast feel as if I am maintaining control of that limb. I will be ordering one that requires more force, and delegating this one to my wife. Who may have needed one of the under 100lb unit afterall. ... show more

  • I recommend this one is worth owning.
One word strong grips, This are very strong then again I'm very weak in my hand strength so take that in consideration I have a bit of muscle atrophy so I can barely squeeze the things at all, I think they are a bit too strong for rehab but great for normal strength individuals. They feel very strong and firm the grip area is metal I though it would be bother some but it's actually pretty good feel. ... show more

  • Seems lighter than labeled
I purchased this gripper as a backup for my GD Iron 90, which is outstanding quality. I compared this 100-lb. gripper to the 84-lb. setting on the Iron 90, and the 100-lb. is easier to close. I trust the resistance rating on the Iron 90 more than I do on this gripper, so I believe that the resistance may not be completely accurate. The only other negative is that there are blobs of dried glue where the spring inserts into the handles, but this is only cosmetic. Overall it seems like decent quality and it will get the job done, but if you are considering getting the 100-lb., you may want to get the 150-lb. instead of or in addition to the 100-lb. ... show more
