  • Great Product! Clever Design! Simple (but physically demanding) Install.
Spalding wanted as much to replace the cracked base of my son's portable basketball hoop as an entirely new unit. Found this for half the price. I did not notice the instructions said use a 10 pound sledge. I bought an 8 pound sledge. I probably had to whack the steel base 300 times to drive it 2' deep into the ground into clay. Would it have been easier with a 10lb sledge? Not sure. But the 8lb got it done. It's no joke though. On my installation, I had a sprinkler line that ran parallel to my driveway where this needed to be installed. Also, I felt like installing this at the edge of the driveway created a bit of a hazard for my car. So I buried a paver flush with the driveway, and that gave me maybe a foot of setback. I can not imagine that this thing is EVER coming up, even if I want to pull it up. Seems like a quality product, heavy steel, sturdy as heck. ... show more

  • Absolutely Genius!
Whoever designed this is a genius. I have replaced the base before and it costs almost as much as a new goal. Not again! This is more sturdy than a "portable" base which Spalding charges $289 for and it will last. Pounding the base into the ground isn't nearly as simple as the YouTube makes it look but once it is in the ground it is as sturdy and cement. The installation is simple, it just takes some muscle to drive into the ground. 1 note of caution. Make sure that your goal will still reach 10 ft when you remove the base and use this product. If it doesn't (like mine) you will need to put something under the pole to make it tall enough. ... show more

  • Slimline and withstands high winds
I bought this basketball base in hopes that it would withstand the hurricane winds that we get. It has not disappointed. I've had the big bases with the portable goals and no matter how much sand or water I put in them, the goal would always fall in high winds. I also like the fact I could take this base with me if we ever moved. No concrete needed. ... show more

  • Awesome solution for Portable Hoop systems
We had a our basketball hoop for years and the plastic base had seen better days. For the cost to replace the plastic base from the manufacturer, I could have bought a new hoop. I stumbled across this product while looking for other options. It was easy to put together and install the new hoop. Great product. ... show more

  • EXACTLY what we were looking for! Definitely NOT easy to assemble lol
Even though the assembly is very time-consuming and requires some major muscles/strength I still HIGHLY RECOMMEND this product! Very sturdy and looks great! A+++

  • Check where you want to install before ordering
The product itself is great and so far seems to resist the wind pretty well with very little wobbling. However, the installation, particularly how you hammer it to the ground, was not as easy as I expected. I recommend hammering a crowbar to check if it will go at least 2.5 feet deep into the soil before ordering, as I suspect returning this is going to be very difficult. This step to creating a pilot hole is required anyway per the manual. What happened to me was, after I received the product, I used a crowbar to create a pilot hole, following the manual, but it would only go like 1.5 feet. I ignored that and went straight to hammering the stand to the ground, thinking it would go deeper with harder/longer hammering and it goes without saying that it went as deep as 1.5 feet and would not budge no matter how hard I tried. My hands hurt really bad with all the hammering. I ended up digging to remove the big stones in the soil to allow the base to go in fully and pour concrete to fill where I dug (as the soil was disturbed) and to stabilize the stand (see pictures). Should I know I would spend this amount of effort, I would go straight to an in-ground system, instead of buying this with a portable, trying to save some money. ... show more

  • Works as advertised.
I installed this product today. The directions are available through the use of a QR code printed on a slip within the box and viewed on your phone. My ProBase came with a wooden block, rather than the plastic block others had complained about. I soaked this wood in water for two hours (directions said at least an hour). Soaking the block in water helps to keep it from splitting while you hit with the sledgehammer. The parts all assembled easily. The tool list showed a 17mm wrench and ratchet. This was wrong. Seventeen millimeters is way too big. My nuts were 5/8 inches. While I was not able to install the device in the ground as quickly as the man in the video clip, I was able to do it in less than thirty minutes. Hammering a metal rod into the ground, and then removing it, gave the ProBase device a track into the ground. This was a good idea. In all the project took about ninety minutes. The final step requires lifting your old hoop assembly and placing it into the ProBase bracket. I was able to do this, but I needed help from three other people. All in all, this seems like a good system for utilizing the old hoop after its plastic base broke. There is a little wobble when the ball bounces hard off of the hoop, but my son said that the wobble was the same as when th ehoop was attached to the old base. ... show more
