I am not sure how to evaluate something that is just supposed to make another product keep working. How do you tell without waiting many years? I have VERY VERY SUPER hard well water with a high iron content. For five years or so after putting in a new softener I used Iron Out once a month, and THAT seemed to be working, but then my valve developed iron deposits and a crusty coating bad enough that it started screwing up the recycles, and I would get a salty off-taste in the morning after each run. I had to take the valve apart and rebuild it to get things working well again. And if the valve was in that bad a condition, I can only wonder about the resin bed. So now I am using the Iron Out twice as often, and I use ResCare every week in between. The ResCare is simple to use - just pour a cup into the brine reservoir (amount depending on tank size) sometime after the last recycle. Everything seems perfect again, for now, and I never notice any taste changes in the water. Other than that, I cannot tell you for a fact just what this stuff is doing. Research shows good reviews for the product, so it seems prudent to keep using it in conjunction with regular doses of the Iron Out. ... show more

    • I think it's effective
I've been using this product in my water softener for years with a "wick" and smaller reservoir bottle in tank. We have exceptionally hard water and I think this really has helped to keep the resin in better shape. I can recommend.

    • Flavor???!! why would this be a rating for soap/cleaner?
who thinks up these ratings categories?? if you have dry hands and feet and tried all the lotions in the world, stop doing that and clean your water softener!!! and then use this product to keep it clean. I also recommend spending the $500 installation fee for the hanging basket. You can do it yourself but someone out there charging $1000/hour for installing the basket and I want to see that guy. ... show more
