  • Excellent mix for healthier plants
I have around 60 plants throughout my home and have been growing houseplants for decades: I've potted and repotted lots of plants over the years. People who say that they're "no good with plants" usually water them too often, or have them potted in a medium that doesn't allow for proper drainage. The majority of houseplants don't like "wet feet," which is where this product comes in. It has excellent ingredients that not only resolve drainage issues, but also allow for proper aeration, which is equally important. I've made my own mixes in the past using several of the same ingredients, such as pumice, perlite, and coconut coir. The advantage with this mix, which also includes volcanic rock and pine bark, is that it's premixed. That makes this product a lot more convenient than buying and storing the same ingredients, then mixing them. Note that referring to this as a "bonsai" mix is somewhat misleading because many people tend to think that "bonsai" refers to a specific plant type. It actually refers to a technique that can be applied to a wide variety of plants. "Bonsai" comes from what translates from Japanese to "planted in a container." The origin is actually related to the Chinese process of pinching branches and leaves of plants and limiting fertilization, intended to keep them small. Any soil mixture could actually be used for the process. I would use this mix for just about any plants other than succulents (for those I'd add fine sand). Most big box garden stores sell much lower quality mixes in 8 quart bags. This is 10 quarts, and considering the convenience of having a premixed high-quality blend, it's a much better value than it may seem to be: Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Stellar For Bonsai’s
I have a twenty five year old Ficus bonsai that needed its five year repotting. It was looking a little rough and was screaming to be refreshed. I am so happy to be able to utilize a premium soil. Well it’s not exactly soil, it’s small mulch and a large variety of small rocks. It has a very pungent odor. That would be the vital organic ingredients that the Ficus can pull from to stay healthy and nourished for a long time to come. This quality medium is perfect for bonsai’s. My Ficus looks happier already! Edit: Here’s my 25 year old Ficus bonsai. Upon using this tremendously nourishing potting mix I cut all of the leaves off the plant to refresh it, mid May. It’s now June 20th and you can see from the pictures how very healthy and happy this plant is. This is wonderful for your bonsai’s…. ... show more

  • Great soil
Great mix for a variety of plants. Has a lot of different mediums to provide good drainage. It's a decent size bag for the price.

  • Excellent potting mix, good size bag.
This potting medium has lots of texture variations, which are good for plants that require excellent drainage, like bonsai trees. The bag has enough medium to plant a few small pots, or one larger one, and it feels like a quality mix. As I dug through the contents I didn’t find anything that shouldn’t be there, like plastic or non-organic material, and I really appreciate that. It appears to be an excellent quality potting mix, and I’m happy to use it in my plantings. For the price, I believe it’s a good value for an above standard potting mix. ... show more

  • Love it
The media could not be loaded. I know this is marketed for bonsai, but I am always looking for frugal options for easy add ins for my house plants. I love having different levels of chunky mixed in with my soil and I think this is a great option. It offering pumice, perlite, and volcanic rock makes it a steal. I also would like to add if you're more into soilless mixes this is a great option. I have mixed it in with my preferred house plant mix and overall all is good! ... show more
