  • Very good quality
My husband and son love this wood splitter. First of all it was delivered way before expected was very easy to put together. They put it to the test and split a huge amount of wood large and small . This thing can split large rounds without hesitation. It is a working machine.

  • Just Don't
The Power-horse Horizontal/Vertical Electric Log Splitter - 8-Ton, 15 Amp, 120V Motor log splitter is a poorly designed waste of money. From the moment that I un-boxed the unit, I started to see issues. 1) The control valve for the hydraulic piston movement is installed up-side-down. There is no mention in the installation instructions. The pictures and drawings show it in the correct position, but it is installed up-side-down foe “shipping reasons” according to technical support. You are required to remove it and re-install it before operation. 2) The log splitter is designed to work both in the vertical position and in the horizonal position. If you lay the splitter down on its wheels and front support handle, it rocks back and forth on the captors’ box mounted under the motor/pump assembly. This makes it useless to use in this position. 3) There are two bolts that support the outer casing of the piston assembly. They take the weight of the assembly when you move the piston assembly to its working position. The bolts screw in to the support and have knobs that are pressed onto the bolt heads. Both broke off when installed. One of the bolts bent during use. 4) While splitting in the vertical position, the piston and wedge ride down a track. The knuckle that connects the wedge to the piston tilts out when splitting force is applied. This forces the tracking plate in the wedge to push forward and bending the guide rails on both sides. Nothing I tried to correct this worked. Soon it became useless to use because the wedge kept riding on the outside of the track. In general, I find this is a useless tool. I am in the process of returning the item. Repair the major problems and this may become a good answer to people that could use a vertical – horizonal splitter. Until then it is a waste of money. ... show more

  • Surprisingly powerful electric splitter that can be used vertically
I'm very impressed and very pleased with the Powerhorse Horizontal/Vertical Electric Log Splitter. It's handled everything I've thrown at it with surprising ease, including 18 to 23 inch diameter relatively "green" red oak logs, see pics. (30-40% moisture content according to a moisture meter, logs were cut about 14 inches long) I love that it can be used vertically. Some of these oak "rounds" weighed about 80-100 lbs. The vertical set up meant we could roll/slide the pieces into place which saved my back a LOT of strain. I don't think I could have lifted many of those bigger pieces onto a horizontal splitter. I also found the vertical setup makes it easier to maneuver big chunks like halves and quarters for further splitting. The controls are simple and straightforward. Power on/off. Forward/neutral/reverse controlling the wedge. Construction is incredibly heavy duty, especially compared to a couple entry-level splitters I looked at in local home improvement/tool stores. I love that it's electric. Quiet, no hearing protection needed. No starting issues, fewer long term storage issues/concerns that one might have with gas engines. I had no problems running it from a standard 15 amp outlet, with an appropriate gauge extension cord. Now for the bad. As others have commented, the wheels are HORRIBLE. They are narrow solid plastic. They use retention rings to attach to the frame - I found the rings VERY difficult to put on. The wheels are ok on smooth pavement or concrete, but are terrible on grass, leaves, dirt, or even rough pavement. I ended up using a hand truck to move the splitter around my back yard. The assembly instructions leave a lot to be desired. A couple videos on YouTube helped me determine the location of the control box. I gave it four stars because of the poor wheels and poor instructions. Once you get this splitter assembled, besides the poor wheels, it's a dream. Powerful and quiet. Convenient to use with its electric motor. Back and muscle-saving with the vertical set-up (but can still be used horizontally if that works better for you). I'm recommending it to several friends! ... show more

  • Don't let the size of this splitter fool you, when push comes to shove, it shoves!
I had 2 big (24" and 27" diameter) oak trees in my back yard that were leaning the wrong way so I had them dropped and I brought this splitter so I could turn them into a manageable size for my wood stove. I had about 4 pieces from the 27" tree that I had to shave some off the outside diameter before this baby would split them down the center. Cycle time is not the fastest but I'm retired and have the time to wait the extra 10 seconds. The tires on it aren't worth the urine it would take to get them wet! I have a hand truck with pneumatic tires so I use that to maneuver it around with no problems. As far as toughness goes I've split two cords of wood with it and I barely scratched the paint on it. For something that was made in China it's one tough cookie! ... show more

  • Shipping box + packing woefully inadequate, damaged in transit
There is nowhere near enough packaging and protection for this item to survive the transport process. My unit has catastrophic damage to the hydraulic control spool fittings. There was zero support, styrofoam protection, etc around this part at all. Manufacturer and seller are absolutely gambling with sending this thing out. Seller is blaming me for accepting the delivery in the first place, and want me to send it back (I assume at my expense), instead of simply paying for the parts to replace what was damaged. Wheels on this thing are completely inadequate to hold, stabilize, or roll this heavy of a unit. Budget for needing to upgrade these to larger diameter and thickness immediately. ... show more
