    • Heavy, but a lifesaver if you need it
This unit is built like a tank. Which you appreciate once you use it and realize it needs to do a LOT of work. As a caregiver it's a relief having a solution to stair climbing. One thing to be aware of: you need a reasonable amount of space at the upper and lower landings, because the person is riding at an angle (45 degrees or whatever) and the wheelchair handles are fully extended behind it and you need space for them + the wheelchair, e.g. at the top of the stairs. I was able to make a small-ish landing work by standing to one side as the wheelchair returns to its normal upright position, but that takes a bit of strength and agility. This isn't an issue with the wheelchair -- it's a problem with my house. The only things I'd improve: (a) make it so you don't have to disconnect a cable to charge it; (b) perhaps have a more gentle motor start/stop. But these are relatively minor issues. ... show more

Very happy with the Power Wheelchair ability to transporting my wife up and down the stairs in our house. In September my wife lost her ability to stand on her own. We bought a standard wheelchair and a transport chairs to get her from bed to the bathroom. My son and myself attempted to move her down the stairs using a standard wheelchair. We only made it down 3 steps of the stairs when we realize it couldn't be done using a standard wheelchair. Feeling helpless I started researching other ways of transporting a person down/up the stairs. Found Power Wheelchair (Model:BC-EA8000) on Amazon to be the best product to fit our needs. Ordered the product and received the Power Wheelchair assembled it with no problems. Ran several tests of it's ability of stair climbing and descending. The biggest obstacle is maneuvering the hairpin turn of the midway stairwell landing. Needed to physically remove the lower arm extensions of the wheelchair to give it a smaller footprint. I have no problem getting my wife up or down the stairs with the Power Wheelchair. Sturdy construction, strong, reliable power, simple to operate. The chair was very heavy to control. So I tried to return it. Amazon and the vendor do not send return labels. It ended up costing me $180 for a return label. I am very upset about it.

This is a huge God-send. I have three flights of stairs to get an elderly parent from floor-to-floor. I do not have anyone to help me, and must be self-reliant. This stair-chair is a high quality unit and built like a tank. Extremey sturdy, no flimsiness whatsoever, and no assembly required: just. plug it in to top off the charge for 4 hrs prior to first use. Game changer. I am able to get my 6'3, 175 pound husband up brick stairs into our house. Did not have to build wheelchair ramps. Chair moves easily inside home as well like a wheelchair.

    • Watch your head
This chair did help far better than manually carrying our tetraplegic son up and down the stairs. There are a couple of drawbacks though. The red bar behind the persons head is very easily hit and will cause the handle to drop down onto the persons head. It comes down quickly with force. It has a seat belt but it doesn’t stay tight across the persons lap. Lastly the treads did leave black marks on the carpeted stairs but worked really well on the wood stairs. This chair is agame changer for us. Prior to receiving the chair my wife was confimed to the upper floors of our home. Because her mobility will improve, a stairlift didn't seen practical.
