we love this automatic pet door, for years we had a smaller one which had a flap that our tiny dogs didn't like plus we had to slide a cover over it during the rain. With this it closes automatically and they love it. I recommend this for your baby's (dogs)

    • Greatest invention ever!
I have had the PX-1 Pet door since March 2022. We didn't have a nearby plug in so I bought the batteries and charger. I absolutely love this thing! My dogs learned how to use it within moments. With the batteries I never need to worry about a power outage. My yard is fenced in chain link, and my dogs go in and out whenever they want to. My wife and I have learned to constantly look at the flashing lights as we pass the door to detect when a battery is low. The door will continue to work just fine when the battery low light is flashing. We simply swap out the low battery for a recharged one. Recently I bought some fresh batteries from another supplier for way cheaper than Hi-Techs. That is my only complaint about the whole system is the batteries on the collar needing to come from the manufacturer. I did invest in the MS-5 transmitters because they are weather resistant and testable with a button. The batteries seem to last 4-5 months. I just buy a bunch of them at a time so I have one to swap out. I would definitely repurchase this door. When this one wears out and the user replaceable parts don't make it work I'm buying a new one of the same type. I've heard nothing but bad things about the newer Wi-Fi versions of this door, so I'll stick with what I know works. ... show more

This door is perfect. I have one older dog and a younger dog. It gives my older dog plenty of time to go through it before it shuts. It never malfunctions or has shut on my dogs or even my cat if she follows my dog in or out. I went out of town and I had no worries about if they could get in or out when they needed. I just had someone come feed them once a day. If you board your dogs this door will save you money over time. Also I don't have to get up every few minutes to let the dogs out either.     • The pet door works great. 4 years and no problems.
I love the pet door, I own two now. They are built well. After 4 years I did have a problem. I bought a new one and troubleshoot the old one and found the inside sonar sensor had gotten pushed in and was not receiving a signal from the collar transmiter. I installed the new door and cleaned the old door. Bench tested the old out and it works great again. I will keep it as a spare replacement if the new door gives a problem. But in my opinion they work great. ... show more

Honestly depending on what you are looking for this could be a good dog door, but it did not fit our needs and the listing made it difficult to figure out if it would. I have had the door installed for about 5-6 months now so I feel like I can write a informed review. We needed a doggy door because we aren’t able to come home and let the dogs out during lunch breaks and wanted them to have access to the yard when we weren’t home. We chose this specific doggy door because it said it would fit dogs up to 100lbs on the listing and we needed one that only opened with a collar because we have a cat that we didn’t want to get out. When we got the door we hadn’t yet moved into our new home but we had already measured to make sure it would fit before ordering. Once we moved in we had someone come install it and were very surprised at how small it was. Only one of our dogs would fit through it. I checked the Amazon listing again and it did say for dogs up to 100lbs, but then I went on the High Tech pet website listing and it said up to 30lbs. I emailed customer service and they called me the following day and addressed my concerns. I asked about switching to a bigger size but then quickly realized the bigger size wouldn’t fit on our back door because it has glass on the top half. The customer service lady told me that another door was in the works that folds up into itself and it would be perfect for our situation. She told me when it released she would give me a call and that she would leave a note with my information on her desk, I saw the new door came out but never received a call. The collars batteries are only sold by this brand and not something you can find at a regular store. So when both collars we had went out the same day we we’re screwed because they took over a week to arrive and our small dog was dependent on this door to use the bathroom while we worked. I wouldn’t say this is the brands fault but it does put us in a difficult position because it is taking over a week to get delivered. The next issue is that the whole reason we got the expensive doggy door that only works with a collar is for the cat. The door does not close fast enough and the cat got out one night, he came back but the next day he got out again and never returned. So at this point we spent $400 on a doggy door for absolutely no reason and it is a huge hassle to deal with. We would love to get a simple one but the wasted money on top of the cost of a new one just isn’t worth it. ... show more

Love the Pet door - nothing comes in that not intended with the pet collar. The pet collar receiver could be more streamlined and is the only reason for the 4 vs 5 star rating. This is my second one - installation can have its challenges - best for 2x4 construction - just put in a 2x6 construction wall - took some ingenuity to make work but looks good ... show more

    • Adds security and energy efficiency to doggy door
I could not imagine my life without this dog door. Here are some advantages of this product: 1. The door does not leak or radiate cold air once it is closed. 2. Collar design prevents any animal not wearing a “high tech collar” from entering the house. 3. Door slides closed without power to ensure pets are not caught in door- Dogs easily push door back up. 4. Dogs love personal access to their backyard whether to smell the air, check the weather, go potty, or play outside at their leisure. 5. Size of medium door great for my pugs as long as they don’t exceed 28lbs. Door is not easy to enter for pug that was 30lbs for a short time. Here are some issues that could be better: 1. Collar last about 12 months. 2. Collar Battery last about 3 months. 3. Door has worked great for the first 18months. After that, my door’s interior sensor light began flashing and door intermittently fails to open from the inside. 4. Door can be temporarily disabled by a pet continuously looking out the door for more than @ 5 min. Door returns to normal operation once pet looks away from door. Unfortunately, pets already outside cannot get back inside until the indoor pet stops looking out the door. ... show more

    • Worked well, until it didn't
Great concept and really like the door. However, at the 15-month point (3 months out of warranty), the outside sensor stopped working... unless you open the door about 1/4 of the way then it magically works. But with the door closed, no bueno. I actually did experiment and found it worked close up if the range is set on 6 or lower but the pet must be practically touching it for it to work on 6. Was told too bad, out of warranty, try replacing the sensor cable and/or the main circuit board (spend some money and might get lucky). Heading down that path next. Although the sensor harness seems reasonable at $23.99, there is also $16+ for shipping tacked on to make the cost much less reasonable. Will see if the harness solves the problem. If not, then the circuit board to hopefully salvage the just over a year-old door. If not, we'll have an expensive brick. ... show more
