Top Amazon Reviews

🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

Based on the reviews, the PetSafe 1-Piece Sliding Glass Pet Door is generally viewed as a solid and convenient option, allowing dogs to move in and out freely. However, potential buyers should note installation can be difficult for some, additional weather-stripping may be required to maintain temperature regulation, and it may not provide perfect weatherproofing or security.

Pros

  • 🐾 Convenient for pets to access outside
  • 🏠 Does not damage the existing door
  • 👍 Several use additional weatherstripping for a better seal
  • 😊 Good for large dog breeds

Cons

  • 🔧 Installation can be difficult and may require professional help
  • ❄️ Might result in increased energy bills due to poor weatherproofing
  • 🔒 Absence of a good locking mechanism
  • 🌬️ Some reported air gaps around the door

Should I Buy It?

If your focus is on convenience and your pets' freedom to access the outdoors, this is a worthwhile product. However, if security, weatherproofing, and ease of installation are top priorities, you may wish to explore other options. Additional weather-stripping, alternative locking mechanisms, or professional installation may be necessary for some users.

  • Great Quality and Amazing Customer Support
Size: Large
I received the first door and there was a manufacturing flaw. The holes to screw the dog door to the top section were off alignment. This may have also been shipping damage as it had been handled harshly according to the box. However, the door is very well put together and of great quality. The customer support to get this fixed was actually a joy. The representative was easy to understand (a rarity) and even asked for pictures of my dog. I’ll be buying all my stuff from Pet Safe from now on. ... show more

  • Great alternative to cutting a hole in the wall!
Size: Large
Easy to install and sturdy. This is the LARGE opening (10"x15" flap) door that adjusts from 91 7/16 to 96" for your slider. We had bought a less expensive door that adjusts from 93" to 96", but it did not fit--measure your door carefully from inside the tracts. I have a small dog (23 lb Lhasa Apso) but he does not like to be restricted, so I thought the large door would be better for him. He's slow to change, so it's taking him a while to use the door on his own. Not that it's hard for him, he's just stubborn. However, note that the rise on the door is 4". If you go with a Medium or Small size the rise goes down by one and two inches. It would be better for my dog if the rise were shorter, but he can still use this one with minimal effort. I did not see the rise height listed on the websites or I may have gone with a Medium. They were listed on the outside of the box when it arrived. As many of the reviews state, the weather striping that comes with the door is junk. My husband actually used pipe insulation and wrapped it around the edge of the pet panel. It's not overly attractive, but does the job very well, was easy to install and is simple to remove if we need to. The sliding door we're using is not real visible from the rest of the house anyway. We are just using a wood rod in the tract for keeping the door locked. We consider this a great alternative to cutting a hole in the wall and would recommend the door. ... show more

  • Works good
Size: Large
This doggy door saved us with our puppy never showing signs of needed to use the restroom and always going inside. After getting this he has been using the restroom outside no problem. Teaching him to use the doggy door was very easy and took about 5 minutes. The issue I have with this doggy door is instructions were a bit confusing for the sealing tape. I didn’t end up using it because it kept falling off and our sliding door won’t lock now or have a good seal when closed and can have some gaps. Other then that it works wonderfully and I live in gated neighborhood so the locking and not fully closing isn’t an issue. ... show more

  • Easy to install and use
Size: Large
Bought this pup door for thise times when I have to be out of the house for a period of time. Installing was easy. I use this as an insert. I install when I need it and remove it when I am home. I did have to purchase fabric for one side of the door for drafts. One dog was easy to adapt. The second dog us trying hard but still having trust issues. The door stands when the fraidy cat burst through as fast as he can. ... show more

  • Perfect for the sliding doors
Size: Large
Love that it works oy negative is that it leaves a gap between the itself and the slider small but air passes through the crack and the slider doesn't lock but it serves the purpose of having to clean up after my dog when I wake up in the morning because she couldn't get outside to use the bathroom.

  • Very poorly made, not easy to install, too expensive for what it is.
Size: Large
For the price of over $200..this dog door insert is absolute trash. 1- the provided weather stripping is both too thin to be even slightly effective at creating a seal..and it came a foot short...why? No clue. It should have been minimum the length of the height of the door. We will have to buy new stripping in the correct length and thickness. 2- the "lock" can only be installed on a completely flush door or track. Our door is on a gliding rod in the track so not flush and the door itself has a lip so this lock is completely ineffective. We will have to install a bar lock to both latch the door with the proper pressure to make it it closed and to secure the door..this will be difficult cause those arent meant to be installed in spaces that are shortened in width by the addition of the dog door and we are having difficulty locating 1 that fits. The flap itself is very very flimsy and does not fully close after a dog goes through it..it simply hangs up on the little bristles. Honestly feels like any intruder could just smash the panel and come right in. It also was not "easy" to install, with getting the right alignment and fit and even then still tons of gapping. Ultimately we will prob have to return this. ... show more

  • Not so easy to install
Size: Large
I read several reviews stating that this doggie door is easy to install. I can only assume that the people writing these reviews are proficient with home improvement. For us, it was very difficult and we ended up having to hire a handyman to do it. We found a YouTube video put out by the company that makes it look really straightforward and simple. But it requires drilling multiple holes into metal, which is more difficult than than they make it look, particularly for the thick metal on our patio door. For what it’s worth, it took two handymen more than an hour and a half to install the door, and they needed to go back to their truck at one point for additional tools. Also the lock seems flimsy, although it is not difficult to replace or supplement the lock with another lock or rod. The weather stripping came right off as well. Since we don’t have too harsh a climate here in San Diego the weather stripping is not really essential and overall the doggie door seems okay. ... show more
