I came to like Porter Cable when I bought a 1/4" impact wrench on clearance elsewhere. So, to find a good partner for my PC impact wrench and replacement for my old 3/8" drive Black and Decker, I found this 1/2" hammer drill which will be going to the Philippines where most drilling is into concrete construction. They don't use wood in the walls, because of termites, so my floor, ceiling, walls there are solid concrete. I've used it here in the US for drilling into wood, massive beams spanning the garage ceiling, to hang a new garage door opener for my neighbor. It is quite powerful compared to even corded electric drills that I have used. The only thing that could make it better is the additional handle near the nose/chuck that you get with other hammer drills. This will be used for light hammer drilling for concrete screws and concrete anchors. ... show more

    • GREAT TOOL AND WOULD GIVE FIVE STARS WITH SMALL EXCEPTION
This is a very powerful drill and works wonderfully. As a hammer drill, it is good for household or hobby work; but is not meant for serious boring. I have all of the other Porter Cable 20VDC tools and love them. Porter Cable means quality to me. The reason for the four stars is that the rotary switch used for torque, when placed in the hammer position, kept kicking back out. I had to hold it while I used the drill. I was using it to drill lateral holes in a concrete slab to affix rebar and was using a 5/8 concrete sds bit. Also, the chuck ain't really happy with sds. Oh well. Worth the money and did the job. I did buy to HD 20VDC batteries to go with it and they are wonderful. This drill comes with no charger or batteries. ... show more

I got this tool as I already owe the batteries, I have the impact drill and a standard drill. I have the high amperage batteries. The tool arrived and I compared it to my drill. They are the same size yet this one has the added feature of the hammer drill part. I am thinking of just using this one moving forward. Battery life is good after doing 12 holes for a camera system. I still had 2 dots left. The tool has the 3 slots for the hammer bits yet it is not like the bigger hammer drills I've seen. Overall I am satisfied. My Drill and impact were once left outside in the rain and I had not noticed for about 30 mins to 45 mins. Came back thinking they were dead. I wiped them down and let them dry. That was 5 years ago and they are still working. Therefore I trust this one will last for a while too. ... show more
