  • Fun for those wanting to learn!
Color: blue
I intended this mini microscope to be for my kiddos but upon trying it, discovered that it’s just as exciting for adults as it is for the kids! I’ve looked at just about every material/surface in my kitchen. Each color, shape, texture is so unique. I wish I could take a picture of the things I see. The microscope is easy to use, one click turns the light on that helps you to see whatever item you’re looking at. It took me a minute to realize I could twist not only the bottom to focus but also the top to zoom in. It starts at 100x and goes to 250x. The instructions say to put the lens directly over top of what you’re looking at and cover it tightly against the object. Thats very important - if you don’t, it make seeing the object extremely difficult, if not impossible. I’m not very “techy” but this was easy to figure out and really cool! ... show more

  • Compact Kid Microscope: Portable, Durable Discovery Tool
Color: blue
As a parent of curious 7-year-olds, I sought a simple microscope to ignite science sparks. This compact 100-250x model delivers backyard wonder without complexity—ideal for peering at salt crystals or bug legs. What Stands Out Grab-and-Go Size: It's small—about 4.5 inches—so it slips into backpacks easily, boosting kid usage over dusty big toys. Tough Build: Metal-reinforced, not cheap plastic—it survives drops and daily chaos. Kid-Friendly Controls: Eyepiece dial adjusts zoom from 100x to 250x. Base quasifocal helix (fine-focus knob for smooth, precise sharpening) nails clarity on squirmy samples like pond critters. Wonder Builder: Sparks "aha!" moments with everyday items (fabrics, petals). Packaging hints at phone mount (not included) for photo fun—great for mini docs. Drawbacks Needs a flat, steady surface; shaky spots blur views despite knob tweaks, frustrating on-the-go tries. Needs a stable mount (phone mount or similar), not included in the package. Verdict 4 stars for ages 6+: Fun, durable intro to micro worlds. Add a phone adapter—voilà, future scientists! ... show more

  • Solid & sturdy but needs just a tad bit of refinement
Color: blue
I was impressed with the quality design of this item. It feels nice and solid in the hand and the fact that it comes with a carrying strap makes it great for on the go adventures.T he LED light feature? Awesome. Love that feature. The downsides I encountered though have to do with actual use. I’m not seeing an actual recommended age guideline other than for boys and girls. I’m an adult and I had a bit of struggle to get this to work easily and clearly for me. The listing photos show this being used on the go. For me, unless I put the object which I would like to identify on a flat steady surface, I can’t get a clear vision no matter which knob I turn. I don’t know if it’s possible in design but somehow making the ability to have a lens which is a magnifying glass in addition to one that is billed as a microscope may make this more functional for all ages, especially kids. Because that’s who my mom was ... show more

  • Awesome hand-held microscope
Color: blue
I got this microscope to use as a teaching tool for my kids and I'm really impressed with it. The finish on it looks like a high end blue metallic car paint, which is really cool. And it is small - easily fits in your pocked. It came with a wrist strap and carry case and some basic instructions, but its really intuitive to use. You need one AAA battery to power the light - which is not included. I was skeptical that it would do 100x to 250x zoom, but after testing it out I no longer doubt it. There is a dial by the eye piece to adjust the zoom and a dial at the bottom for focus. The only thing that takes some getting used to is how still you have to hold the microscope. That wasn't a problem for me, but my kids struggled with that at first. Its a really neat product and definitely going to get a lot of use in my kids' science kit. ... show more

  • Skip this and get a magnifying glass instead
Color: blue
This was a great idea that really fails in use. As someone who grew up with a biologist dad, I really wanted to like this microscope. And there is a lot to like, on first look. First, the positive. It appears to be well made. Care was put into the design. The battery cover must be unscrewed to be taken off. It doesn't feel lightweight or cheaply made. The power button works easily and is in a good location. The zoom ring and focus ring work smoothly and effortlessly. It comes with an attachable wrist strap and a very nice carrying bag. However. The negative. This microscope is almost impossible to use. I tried it out before giving it to a kid, and I'm glad I did. I believe that the biggest problem is that it is too powerful. At 100x, I could see many things clearly. But zooming to 250x caused the field of focus to be almost impossibly tiny. The focal length is not the same across zoom lengths, meaning that you have to refocus as you zoom. And if you can get it into focus at 250x, the field of focus is so tiny that even breathing while holding it and looking through it is likely to cause you to move the microscope. I really struggled to juggle both a focus ring and zoom ring. I also struggled to find things that were absolutely flat that I could observe. Even a piece of leaf lettuce wasn't flat enough for me to see the entire field clearly. It is so tightly focused that it's impossible to hold something in your hand and examine it. As an adult who loves microscopes and magnifying glasses, I really wanted to love this mini microscope. But it wasn't fun. It took a lot of time and patience with disappointing results. If the zoom had been 25x to 100x, I think it would have been a much better kid-focused device. As is, it's not kid-friendly. Any six year old I've ever known would lose patience with it too soon. Honestly, give them a magnifying glass and they'll be happier than with this microscope, unfortunately. ... show more
