  • I knew what I was getting
Size: Game500-Blue
I got this specifically because I like to collect knockoff game consoles. First off, this comes in a very generic box and the device itself is very light. This came with a Li-ion battery that's easily replaceable due to the door on the back. It uses a USB-A to USB Micro-B to charge, which is weird, because that's a super outdated port type and most of my equipment uses USB-C with a few stragglers using USB Micro-B. So this felt like it came straight from the early-to-mid 2000's. Now, about the system. Whenever you turn it on, you are greeted with two options: English and Chinese. Upon entering the English option I found many games were hacks, levels, or games that were never commercially made for the NES (also demakes). This claims 500 games, but the reality is far less. All games are NES-based games. It has 4 buttons, two are the regular A and B buttons and the other two buttons are turbo A and B buttons. This does have an advantage in some games, like Contra. The volume can get pretty loud for what it is. The buttons overall feel okay and definitely remind me of the GBC. The device didn't crash as I used it, so yay! Here's the takeaway, if you are a collector of knockoff game consoles, get it. If you have a young child and are introducing them to video games, this is a great option not only due to the price, but the fact that the device is decently durable. You can also just start it up anytime and start playing a game without creating accounts or setting parental controls and the like. So if that's you, you found the right product. ... show more

  • Instructions not helpful
Size: Game500-Blue
Haven't figured out how to use this since the instructions are not at all helpful. I use this as fun decor and a cool talking piece at my house. Not functional though.

  • You get what you pay for
Size: Game500-Blue
I am an avid game console collector and user; and this one has its pluses and minuses. First of all, this is really light, as if there is nothing inside. It can get loud for something so mall, and the buttons do get mushy. There is not 500 games as advertised .. way less than 500, but for the price it is not bad. It has two language options when you turn it on .. English and Chinese. The games are what you expect for a retro console, and this is a quick way to pass the time when needed. It comes with RGB cables and a usb cord to charge. Most games are clones but that doesn't stop you from having some fun. Enjoy and take it for what it is .. a quick and fun way to pass the time. ... show more

  • The handheld is lighter than a frisbee. Toss it.
Size: Game500-Blue
The media could not be loaded. This small retro gaming handheld arrived to me in a generic cardboard box. I almost didn't know what it was due to how light it is. I received a light blue unit just like in the product pictures. The included accessories were a USB charging cable, video out, the rechargeable battery which you must insert yourself, and a manual. The unit is extremely light. It feels like nothing is in it. The d-pad and buttons feel mushy. The power switch does feel nice and gives you a satisfying click. The volume is controlled by a wheel on the bottom-left of the device and is quite tough. The screen is actually nice - better than I was expecting. I had no major issues with the device, but I do have some minor ones. First is that there's no indication of the battery's level. During testing, the device's screen would turn on but show nothing. I thought it was broken and was about to trash it, but then I tried charging. It worked fine then. Last is the TV out. I'm not sure if it's the included cord or if it's the port, but the cord must be rotated to a very precise spot for the TV out to work. Once I did find that magic spot, I decided to record some footage while awkward holding the thing. Now for the games. The included video shows you the entire 500 game list and some gameplay of Excitebike. As you can see, the game list is mostly NES games with some bootleg stuff here and there. Excitebike wasn't the only game I tried. From the others I played, I can say that the emulation is a mixed bag. Yes, it runs at full speed, but there are visual errors and the sound is off. The biggest offender here is the d-pad. I don't know if I got a bad unit or what, but it's really imprecise. Down registers as right or left at times and up can do the same. This is why I chose Excitebike for the video. Playing the platformers or action games like Mario or Ninja Turtles was almost impossible due to the horrid d-pad and it was hindrance here too. At least I was able to play through some of the game to showcase its NES emulation. As you can see, there's some occasional graphical garbage and the background was splitting. This happened with some of the other games on the device. The sound is a bit off too. In conclusion, I can't recommend this thing. The emulation isn't great. The d-pad and buttons are mushy with the d-pad being a complete mess. The TV out is janky. There's no battery life indicator. On a positive note, the screen is decent and I think the song for the game list is a banger so I gave it an extra star for those. Too bad it sucks where it counts. ... show more

  • Tons of retro games!!
Size: Game500-Blue
I feel there are doubles, brings back memories. Hate that you have to scroll all the way back up when you get to the bottom. Game play is nice, good for car rides.

  • Not 500 games but still a lot
Size: Game500-Blue
If you're into retro NES/Atari era games, you might want to take a look at this handheld game console. The overall build quality is on the cheaper side, and the controls aren't great, but surprisingly I found the screen to be pleasant to look at. There is some viewing issues off-axis but generally the screen was better than other TFT screens I've found on cheaper handhelds. The volume rocker is hard to adjust but I found that the lowest setting was loud enough for a quiet room. The power switch was a little wiggly but it was functional. The device has either an English or Chinese language option, but this only affects the language of the games list. The games themselves are either in English or Japanese. There are about 200-300 actual games on the device, mostly NES/Atari era games mixed with some games I've never heard of or what looked to be community modded games. The rest of the list of 500 are just a repeat of the previous listed games. This handheld is probably suitable for very casual gaming urges or younger kids who aren't too picky yet about having the latest video games. ... show more
