  • Works great, no GFCI tripping, good interaction with the company
Size: NEMA 14-50 (16ft)
I bought the Splitvolt 40A EVSE based on direct interaction with Dan at Splitvolt. I asked a question to Splitvolt directly, as to whether their device is compatible with GFCI breakers. My town requires such a breaker when a receptacle is installed in a garage, regardless of use. His response was thorough and, while he couldn't guarantee Splitvolt device interaction with third party hardware, he said that they had no reports of such issues. The EVSE itself is also required to have GFCI which can negatively interact with the GFCI in the breaker. Reading online, EVSE devices have a mixed history tripping upstream GFCI breakers -- simply put, some do, some don't, and some are intermittent, but it's hard to find definitive information on what's what. In any case, my building inspector had approved my permit, and I didn't want to "just replace the breaker" with a non-GFCI version -- I could easily do so, but I don't trust my (or any!) insurance company to pay a claim if they find something that's outside of code. In any case, I ordered this device based on the positive interaction with Splitvolt and their assurance that they would work with me through tech issues, etc. Their return policy via Amazon is also easy, so I felt confident that I was covered both ways. I energized the receptacle and as the EVSE was powering up I was certainly hoping that it wouldn't trip the GFCI immediately (I've seen this in the past with other EVSE devices). Good news! No issues at power up, so I plugged in my 2020 Chevy Bolt. No issues there either -- it charges clean and fast and hasn't tripped the breaker for any reason. If you have any concerns about GFCI tripping or the Splitvolt devices, my experience is that you shouldn't be. My interactions with the company have been excellent and the device works exactly as I would expect. I'll note that I'm using a Type CH 50A GFCI as you can see in the picture (bottom right breaker). This is tied directly to a NEMA 14-50R receptacle with about 10 feet of 6/3. ... show more

  • Won't last, poor longevity.
Size: NEMA 14-50 (16ft)
First unit I received was defective, I had to call to convince them that it wasn't me, it was the unit. Then I got a replacement and it worked great. At this point I would be willing to overlook that the first unit was dead-on-arrival and either leave no review, or a solid 4 or 5 star review. But now I've had this for more than a year, and on month 14 the unit died. Poof goes all your money into the charger. I used it to fill up my Teslay model Y up about 200 to 300 miles a month, so definitely not a heavy usage issue. I can't recommend this charger, for the price, given the fact that I've had two of these now, and both have died either on arrival, or after 14 months. I've now switched to a different brand charger and have so far no issues. For those curious, I have a 220V line on 40Amps with a 50Amp breaker. The line has never gotten overloaded, meaning the breaker has never flipped. No power surges, lightning or other events that would cause concern. The unit was shielded from rain and we have a little hutch it goes into to protect it from direct sun or rain. Good luck out there! ... show more

  • It Works As Advertised!
Size: NEMA 14-50 (26ft)
I have been using my Level 2 charger for a few weeks now, certainly enough to understand its virtues and vices. Fortunately, it has few vices, only a couple of annoyances. I selected the 26 foot charging cord to provide access to charge my Tesla while parked outside the garage as well as my Aviator Hybrid parked inside the garage. I had a 60 amp 240v service installed with a NEMA 14-50 box and plugged the charger in. The documentation is adequate but not comprehensive. It does the basics. Remember to look at the back of the charger for information about the meaning of the lights. Once plugged in it worked as advertised. I initially set it to charge at 60 amps which it tried to do before defaulting to 50 amps as required by the Code if not hard wired. At 60 amps the 2021 Tesla X charged at 36-37 miles per hr. of charge while it decreased to 25 miles per hr. of charge at 50 amps. The 26' charger cord is longer than I need. It is inconvenient to have so much extra length to store or hang, especially since the cord is so thick and heavy. Get the 16' version unless you really need the extra length. Conclusion: This product is well engineered, designed and built and is a great value too. It should be on your short list for a Level 2 charger. ... show more

  • Front part is assemble incorrectly. Overall good charger
Size: NEMA 14-50 (16ft)
Like the other reviewer mentioned, the front part of box is reversed. Tried to turn it around but only able to turn it outward by 10 degree. Other than the defective assembly issue, the charger itself works great. Charges Prius Prime in 2.5 hours. Hope it will last…

  • Great Home Charger for my VW e-golf
Size: NEMA 14-50 (16ft)
The media could not be loaded. I bought the portable Splitvolt 40 amp charger for my VW e-golf and it works great! The low price, quality charger arrived quickly in a solid double box. I use it on a 50 amp circuit with the standard 14-50 plug. It is super easy to use as you can see in the video. It charges my car fast, is durable, and lightweight. My favorite part is that it is portable and coils up and travels easily with me in the free carrying bag. My brother bought the 24 amp Splitvolt charger and loved it. I am equally impressed and will definitely recommend this charger. ... show more
