  • Performed as Promised: Timed Test
This immersion heater works as promised. I tested it using a 5 gallon Home Depot bucket, filled with approximately 4 gallons of water. The room temperature was 73.4 degrees. The starting water temperature was 63.9 degrees. At five minutes, the temperature measured 66.4 degrees, but I realized that I probably should agitate the water to get an accurate reading. You are not supposed to touch the water while the immersion heater is in it, so I agitated it by gently swirling the immersion heater by its cord for about 1 minute prior to taking the next and subsequent readings. The heater worked as promised: 5 minutes: 66.4 degrees (not accurate, didn't agitate water) 10 minutes: 90 degrees 15 minutes: 103.6 degrees 18 minutes: 110.8 degrees 20 minutes: 116 degrees 25 minutes: 128 degrees 30 minutes: 139.6 degrees ---------- 45 minutes: 170 degrees 60 minutes: 197 degrees At this point I stopped heating the water because I didn't want to melt the plastic bucket. It is bigger than I'd expected. It will not fit in my 6 qt stock pot, nor will it fit in my deepest and largest pan. They also give stern warnings not even to touch the water while the immersion heater is submerged, so unfortunately it will not work for keeping my bath water warm during ridiculously long baths, either. For my purposes, it is not particularly practical for day-to-day use. However, it will come in handy when I need the sink water hotter than our water heater makes it, such as to sanitize large items that don't fit in microwaveable bowls, or to get a bucket of water really hot to dye fabrics or soak heavily stained clothes. We are on a septic system, so there are a lot of things we can't put down our sink. This will be handy to warm water for washing out paint brushes, etc. on cold days when it's so unpleasant to clean them with hose water. Also, from time to time our septic gives us "high water" alarms, and we need to limit our use of water. This immersion heater will allow us to heat water for cooking and washing up without overloading the septic by letting the faucet water run till the water gets hot. I bathe our dog in the bathtub, but if I washed him outside, this would be good for heating up a wash tub, too. (Dogs find baths significantly less disagreeable if the water is a comfortable temperature, plus they get cleaner.) I think the wattage is too high to be powered by our DeWalt portable generator/battery jumper, but if it isn't, it would also be good for camping in remote areas, warming the horses' trough water when temperatures approach freezing, and for heating water when our electricity goes out for a day or more, as it has in the past couple years, due to unexpectedly frigid weather. ... show more

  • Works well and heats water quickly!
I was very impressed with how quickly and well this heater worked. It heats up water quickly, and the safety instructions were very clear and easy to follow. I'm happy to have purchased this heater and have been recommending it to everyone I know.

  • Works fine
This is a pretty cool little water heater. It does take a while to heat up the water depending on the depth of the water. You have to have the water and then take this thing out before getting in the water too. Do not get in the water with this thing in it.

  • Handy
I bought this to heat an unplumbed portable tub. The tub holds about 60 gallons. I was concerned that the heater was not standing up on the bottom but there was no issues no matter which way it was. The outside frame obviously protects the tub from the heating element. The heater raised to temp of the water about 1°F (one degree Fahrenheit) in about 6-8 minutes. Not extremely fast but good enough for me since I started with warm water and just needed to get it up to bath temperature (102° to 110°). ... show more

  • Immersion Water Heater
This is definitely an interesting product. I know that it does in fact work. I tried it and it does heat the water up. Not super fast but it will heat it up. I think that if you had no hot water in your home or where you are maybe camping or something, sure it will heat the water. My main concern with this thing is a good friend of mine told me this is just like as he dubbed in a “Prison Stinger”. They make something similar in prison to heat the water they need for coffee or Ramen Noodles. If I was to use this to warm up an inflatable pool or portable bathtub it would work just fine to do the job. However, the warning labels all over it tell me that if you are not super careful and you touch that water while this is in it it will light you up like a Fourth of July firework! I mean it’s no joke just running straight electricity through it and you will get electrocuted. If you’re a responsible adult who follows all the precautions you should be fine using it. However, I genuinely would not recommend this be used around toddlers or drunk adults to prevent a serious injury. I just don’t see how this is very safe. You gotta do what you gotta do though if you don’t have hot water so there’s that. That’s a risk you will have to decide if you want to take. They do include a cool digital thermometer for your convenience though. After you’ve had this in the water for a period of time you can unplug it and take it out of the water and check the temperature with that so you get it as warm as you need to. A word of caution again if you just stick your hand in to test the temperature you’ll probably unalive yourself accidentally so don’t ever touch the water while it’s plugged in. ... show more

  • Works great
I got this as an emergency water heater incase the power goes out. I can still heat a tub of water using this hooked up to our generator. It doesn’t draw near as much power as a conventional water heater. I tested it out and it heated a five gallon bucket of water in just a few minutes. Overall it is very solidly constructed with a heavy duty plug and cable. It’s overall construction is not made of cheap parts but made of strong metal and reinforced plastic, exactly what I needed. It is well worth its price for the quality of the heating device. ... show more
