  • Awesome heater solution for small applications
Bought this to rig up a hot tub at a rental house where the pool heater had failed. It is a very slow process but this heater with a 1000gph fountain pump from vevor I bought was a perfect set up for getting an 8 foot round hot tub up to 102 degrees all winter long in Florida. It struggled when the temp was in the low 40s to keep up and you have to play way ahead to use the tub as it averages about a degree an hour but overall for a tenth price of a true heater it worked. Energy bills showed negligible change to run it basically for 3 months straight 12 hours a day. ... show more

  • Poor quality control, decent customer service
When it arrived and we plugged it in we got an instant error code. We contacted customer service and they said to open the heater & make sure 2 of the wires were fully connected. They weren't (nor was a 3rd wire they didn't mention) and looked like they never had been connected. That got rid of the error code and it was working, but it was REALLY loud and shaking. Contacted customer service again and they now said to open the heater & look at fan blades. One of the blades was completely broken in half and sitting at the bottom on the heater. Customer service said a new blade was ordered from China and would be here in 12 days, still waiting. I feel like it's something we bought at IKEA and had to put together ourselves. If shipping was free we would've already returned it. Horrible quality control! ... show more

  • Heat pump far exceeded our expectations
We purchased this heat pump to heat our 15-foot round above ground pool in New England. We are beyond pleased and almost shocked with how well it worked. Before purchasing, we really researched options and this pump seemed the best value for the money based on comparing reviews with more expensive units. Within 3 days the heat pump raised our pool temperature over 10 degrees and is now maintaining at 90 degrees. We actually turned the temperature down so the water doesn’t get any warmer. This is even during cool nights late August. We agree a solar cover is very important at night to maintain temperature. I should add very easy to install. I contacted customer service via email with a few questions and they were very friendly and responded right away. Our pool filter is on a timer and the pump will turn on and off when the pool filter turns on and off. It is based on water flow and give an E06 error code when the pump shuts off. It corrects itself as soon as the water turns with the water filter. I highly recommend this heat pump unit! We only wish we bought it years prior! ... show more

  • READ THIS BEFORE YOU BUY
**This review is after 14 months of use. The review has been updated from 3 to 4 stars because the unit is still working (I did have to replace a faulty GFCI plug after a year) and the seller provides prompt customer support when needed** Before you buy this or anything similar, make sure you understand the difference between a heat pump and a pool heater. In short, a heat pump uses ambient air to generate heat while a heater uses electricity or gas to generate heat. Heat pumps take a lot of time to warm a pool and require ambient air temperature above a certain point to operate. The benefit of the heat pump is it requires much less energy to operate and many can be found using 110v electric to save substantially on installation costs versus running a gas line or high-voltage. Specifically for this unit, it works fine as a heat pump for a very small pool, adding a couple months to the beginning and end of pool season. I was able to keep water at 98-100 degrees when ambient temperatures were warm enough. After using it from the end of summer until early November in a 1000 gallon stock tank pool in the US Southeast, here are my thoughts. This is advertised as “energy efficient” because it “automatically” maintains a set temperature. However, if you read the q&a, the seller states you need to run your pool pump all the time because this unit cannot turn your pool pump on and off and it has no timer. So when the unit needs to turn on to “automatically” adjust the temperature, your pump has to already be running. It’s not energy efficient when you have to keep the pump running all the time. If it is warm enough during the day (above 70F for my setup) and not too cold at night (temps staying around 60F for me) you can shut the heat pump off at night and it will be able to reheat during the day. To solve this issue, I got a wifi smart plug to use on both the heat pump and pool pump and set a schedule to avoid running the equipment all the time. Once it gets into cooler weather, you will need to run the heat pump and pool pump continuously to have pool water temps stay above 90F. Speaking of cooler weather, this unit has no defrost function. Once night temperatures dropped below 50F, my unit often frosted over. The unit has more than the required clearance on all sides but still cannot be used at the temperatures advertised. This heat pump does not have a feature that allows it to cool your water. The seller says this is reserved for larger (more expensive) units, but the controls are programmed to allow water cooling (and defrost for that matter). It seems that despite paying nearly $1000 for this, the cooling and defrost features are not included. You might as well go with the least expensive option since this unit does not have any real upgrades over cheaper alternatives. A difference of a couple thousand BTUs will not have any noticeable effect on how quickly your water heats. If I did this again, I’d buy one of the less expensive units I looked at. (Seller has lowered pricing since this review was originally posted, more in line with the true value of this unit). TLDR: Works fine as a basic heat pump, but it’s not worth more than similar, cheaper units that have a slightly lower BTU rating. Seller does provide excellent customer support. ... show more
