  • Heat pump far exceeded our expectations
We purchased this heat pump to heat our 15-foot round above ground pool in New England. We are beyond pleased and almost shocked with how well it worked. Before purchasing, we really researched options and this pump seemed the best value for the money based on comparing reviews with more expensive units. Within 3 days the heat pump raised our pool temperature over 10 degrees and is now maintaining at 90 degrees. We actually turned the temperature down so the water doesn’t get any warmer. This is even during cool nights late August. We agree a solar cover is very important at night to maintain temperature. I should add very easy to install. I contacted customer service via email with a few questions and they were very friendly and responded right away. Our pool filter is on a timer and the pump will turn on and off when the pool filter turns on and off. It is based on water flow and give an E06 error code when the pump shuts off. It corrects itself as soon as the water turns with the water filter. I highly recommend this heat pump unit! We only wish we bought it years prior! ... show more

  • Poor quality control, decent customer service
When it arrived and we plugged it in we got an instant error code. We contacted customer service and they said to open the heater & make sure 2 of the wires were fully connected. They weren't (nor was a 3rd wire they didn't mention) and looked like they never had been connected. That got rid of the error code and it was working, but it was REALLY loud and shaking. Contacted customer service again and they now said to open the heater & look at fan blades. One of the blades was completely broken in half and sitting at the bottom on the heater. Customer service said a new blade was ordered from China and would be here in 12 days, still waiting. I feel like it's something we bought at IKEA and had to put together ourselves. If shipping was free we would've already returned it. Horrible quality control! ... show more

  • Works very well
So far, this system is working extremely well with my configuration. I was looking for a heating option that operates on 120V and having some experience with heat pumps, decided on the EU50, which is oversized for my very small pool. (2200 gallons) This summer we decided to dig and build a 10x10x4 splash pool to cool off and float. We finished in August and this unit was intended to extend the start/end of our season with central Ohio temperatures. The pool uses a 1500gph Intex pump with an Intex salt system. I found that the 1500gph pump worked okay with this unit, but Ecopooltech recommends 500gph-1000gph for a reason. The water was flowing too quickly wasn't heating fully. So, I set up a diverter configuration and added an Intex pump that has a system flow rate of 750gph, which has been perfect. 70-80F days with 50-55F nights and I have the water at a nice 92F. I think I could get it to 95-96F, but don't want it that hot. It took 22 hours of continuous to get the pool water from 74F to 92F, which was much faster than I expected. To maintain the 92F I keep it covered at night and run the heater at night. I had to contact the company when I had an initial E00 error. I am not sure what caused it, but I was able to clear the error by unplugging the unit and resetting the temp. Tech support responded quickly (but I already resolved the issue) and continued to follow up to make sure the issue was resolved. I am happy with the purchase and would recommend it, especially for the price. The directions and the description do a good job of setting expectations that this is not a hot tub heater and doesn't give you instant heat. However, getting a unit that is a little oversized, paired with the flow rate... and it exceeds expectations. ... show more

  • This is one of the best purchases I have made
I thought that it might not really work, or that it would barely work. I assumed it would burn up or maybe never even turn on. I was wrong. It works and it works well. It has really changed how we use our small pool since we are up north a bit. I don't know why I had such low expectations for this heater, but I have had zero problems with it and it has made the pool much more enjoyable. At first I turned it up very high because the pool was quite cold. I let it run for a couple of days and when i checked it, the water was 96 degrees. I couldn't believe it. I had to turn it way down. Now I have it set at a normal temperature and it works great. The pool still cools at night and warms during the day or when the sun is strong, but the heater keeps the average temperature comfortable. I was also unsure if I would have problems keeping my chemical levels with the heater heating the water, but no problems there either. This particular one I bought does not work when the ambient air temperature drops below 45 degrees, so if you want something like that make sure you read the product info. I plan to get a bigger, more permanent pool in the next year or two, and I will be looking at a larger heater like this one. my family is now spoiled with the pool water temperature ... show more

  • When it works it's great.
It has been nice to have a heated pool this year, particularly because the weather has not cooperated very well. When it's working correctly it's great. Unfortunately it has some issues working at times. It will be 85 degrees outside and the water coming out of the heater is barely above the pool temp. Even though it set to a highter temp. Other times it's pumping out the heat and warms the pool up nicely. It also has this annoying tendency to pop it's gfci plug. It is in a waterproof box and the one on the pump never does this. Other than that it is okay. ... show more

  • It works, great for the price but... It works, great for the price but...
I bought this knowing it was a stop gap solution. Our pool is a 15ft x 48" Bestway steel side pool (5000 gallon). We bought it for $900 at BJs. We had to upgrade literally every thing on this pool. Ladder, filter, pump. We are all in about $1700. This has always been a "let's see how much we use it before we buy a new pool" kind of pool. We like the pool but even in the direct sun. The northest is not consistent for summer Temps. The last few years have been a few days of high 80s/low 90s. Taking about 3 days for the pool to reach 78-80 like we like it. Then usually the next day 60s and the process would start all over. I am a mechanical engineer and understand the laws of thermodynamics and knew a a 16,000 btu heater could work if it is on all the time to maintain the temperature not heat 20 degrees in a day. Water flow rate has nothing to do with heating, only perception of heating. At max speed 75gpm our pump max it seem like it's not heating and on eco at 25gpm because if you flow 3x the water your water temperature will be 1/3 as much but the amount of btus applied to the water is the same. I often put the pump on eco for a few minutes just to make sure it's actually heating. Also you will use 1/4th the energy trying to maintain the pool temp the turn it off and on. So here is the list of what I have found after a few weeks. Yes hot water does come out! It will only gain about 10-12F above ambient temp and maintain water that is about 14-16F above ambient. On an 84 degree day I was able to get it up from 58 to 73. This was also with a solar cover. This will not extend a pool season. Just regulate the pool temp for the pool season. Thing I have an issue with.... First not a 16000BTU heat pump, it is 14000BTU. The label on the side confirms it. Second the thermal protection does not trigger early enough causing frost... also it does not have a defrost function but I assumed that. Third, The fittings are 1-1/4" and for the life of me I could not find good quality tubes. In conclusion have reasonable expectations, it works but is not a permanent solution. This heat pump was purchased so my toddler would not get hypothermia when we teach him to swim. Next year or the following year, I will add a sub panel and run 220v to my pool and I will buy a proper sized 50000btu heat pump that offers cooling/defrost. I am giving it 4 stars because it lied about the capacity. ... show more

  • Great little pool heater Great little pool heater
Was nervous buying this heater after reading a few of the reviews. However, this heater is fantastic for the price. I actually purchased the heater a size smaller than what I needed since I wasn’t looking to heat much. The first initial heat up took about two days to go from 70 to 84 degrees for my 6,500 gallon pool. I was surprised how quickly it heated the pool up even being a size smaller than needed. Now, she maintains the pool at 84-86 with ease. My advice if you buy this is to actually read the manual (something I’m guilty of never doing). It teaches you how to program it and some of the auto on/off features. ... show more

  • Would Not Turn On; Item Returned on 7/20/2023; Still not showing up as returned
This pool heater pump cost a little over $900 to buy!!! We hooked it up, and it didn't work. We boxed it back up and returned it the same day that it wouldn't come on. When buying, it was advertised that the item could be returned for any reason and a refund given. UPS says it is returned on July 20, 2023. Well, it is August 17, 2023 and my account is STILL not showing that it is returned. Don't buy this. It is expensive. It doesn't turn on. And, you will wait a long time for a refund. This item is an expensive nightmare for a normal -income person!!! ... show more
