  • First impression is good, time will tell on quality
My 5 star rating is based upon initial impression only, as I have not be able to test the quality of this product yet. It is a winterizing pool closing ball and I ordered this product in July. I will be using it to close up my pool in either Sept or Oct, depending on how long the nice weather holds out for us this year. I will update my review at that time for ease of use, and will update again next spring to report how well the product worked at keeping my pool water clean and clear all winter. Initial impression: The product is well packaged. I appreciate the foam inserts in the box to keep the product from being jostled and/or crushed in transit. The instructions were placed right on top, inside the box, and are clear and easy to follow. The ball itself seems very large - about the size of my palm. This seems larger than other closing balls we have used in the past, but my husband says it's about the same. We have a 15'x48'' Round Intex pool that holds approximately 5300 gallons of water. This pool closing ball advertises that it will work for pools up to 30,000 gallons so there should be sufficient product inside the ball to keep our pool clean all winter. There isn't a list of ingredients that I could find, so I am unable to compare the contents of this closing ball to others. We have used another brand before with great results, and I am hoping the same for the SummerBuddy Winter Pool Closing Ball. Again, I will update this review when I close my pool and again in the spring when we open it. ... show more

  • Easy ball
The pool closing ball looks simple to operate. The pool closing ball offers you the same protection that you would receive by using an abundance of different chemicals. The closing ball takes the thinking out of closing the pool. All you need to do is run the pump, pierce a hole in the bottom of the ball, than toss it in the pool. Instead of having to measure and purchase and store a bunch of different chemicals everything you need is all measured out for you in the ball. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this ball accomplishes everything it say since the ball is easy as well as economical. I will definitely report back after my first initial use and Than I will update again when I open the pool in the spring. ... show more

  • Pool Closing Ball: A Easy Winterizing Solution for Pool Owners
As a pool owner who dreads the annual winterizing process, I was intrigued by the Summerbuddy Pool Closing Ball, promising 6 months of winter protection for above-ground and in-ground pools. After using it to close my 12,000-gallon above-ground pool this past fall, I’m impressed with its ease of use and performance so far, though I won’t know the full results until spring. Here’s a detailed breakdown of my experience with this innovative pool winterizing product. Ease of Use and Application The Summerbuddy Pool Closing Ball is designed to simplify the pool closing process, and it delivers on that promise. The instructions are clear and straightforward, making it accessible even for first-time pool owners. To use it, I simply pierced the ball with the included push-pin and dropped it into the pool before covering it, as directed. The process took less than a minute, which is a significant improvement over the multi-step chemical kits I’ve used in the past that required measuring and mixing. The ball is compact yet feels substantial, and it floats evenly in the pool, ensuring consistent distribution of its winterizing formula. Professional-Grade Formula The product boasts a professional-grade formula that provides up to 6 months of protection, with claims of ≥99.8% efficiency in preventing green water, bad odors, and slippery walls. The slow-release mechanism inside the floating ball delivers enzymes and clarifiers that combat algae, oils, and organic buildup during the off-season. I appreciate that it’s gentle on pool liners and safe for both above-ground and in-ground pools. While I haven’t opened my pool yet to confirm its effectiveness, the water remained clear and odor-free when I checked it a month after closing, which is a promising sign compared to previous years when I’d notice cloudiness or slight algae growth early on. Durability and Design The Summerbuddy Pool Closing Ball is well-constructed, with a sturdy outer shell that feels durable enough to withstand a harsh winter. Unlike some pool pillows or floaters I’ve used that deflate or degrade over time, this ball maintained its integrity when I checked it mid-winter. The design is simple yet effective, with a small push-pin mechanism to activate the release of the winterizing chemicals. I was initially skeptical about whether such a compact product could handle a pool as large as mine, but the packaging assures it’s suitable for pools up to 30,000 gallons, and but from my experience with pool chemicals I do not think that small amount will be efficient for that amount of waster. i would assume half of that. Value and Convenience One of the biggest advantages of this product is its convenience. Unlike traditional winterizing kits that require multiple chemicals (like algaecide, shock, and stain removers), the Summerbuddy Pool Closing Ball is a single, all-in-one solution. This not only saves time but also reduces the cost of buying separate products. While the upfront price is slightly higher than some basic winterizing chemicals, the ease of use and potential for a cleaner pool opening make it a worthwhile investment. I also appreciate that it eliminates the need for additional floaters or chlorine tablets, which can sometimes damage vinyl liners if not managed carefully. Initial Observations and Considerations So far, my experience with the Summerbuddy Pool Closing Ball has been positive, but there are a couple of considerations to note. First, the instructions could be more detailed about what to expect after application. For example, the water turned slightly cloudy immediately after adding the ball, which the packaging notes is normal, but I had to do a quick web search to confirm this. Second, while the product claims 6 months of protection, its true effectiveness won’t be clear until I open my pool in the spring. Some Amazon reviews mention mixed results, with a few users reporting green water despite using similar products, so I’m cautiously optimistic. I plan to update this review once I open my pool to confirm whether it delivers the promised crystal-clear water. Comparison to Traditional Winterizing Kits Having used traditional winterizing kits like the In The Swim Pool Closing Kit in previous years, I find the Summerbuddy Pool Closing Ball to be a more streamlined alternative. Traditional kits require balancing pH, adding shock, and applying algaecide, which can be time-consuming and prone to user error. The Summerbuddy ball simplifies this into a single step, which is especially appealing for those who want a hassle-free closing process. However, for pools with a history of severe algae issues, I’d recommend combining this with a small amount of algaecide as a precaution, as some users suggest for particularly challenging pools. Final Thoughts The Summerbuddy Pool Closing Ball is a convenient, innovative solution for winterizing pools, offering a professional-grade formula in an easy-to-use package. Its durable design, 6-month protection promise, and compatibility with both above-ground and in-ground pools make it a strong contender for pool owners looking to simplify their closing routine. While I’m reserving my final judgment until I open my pool in the spring, the early signs are promising, with clear water and no odors a month into winter. For its ease of use, value, and potential to save time and effort, I highly recommend the Summerbuddy Pool Closing Ball to anyone seeking a reliable winterizing option. I’ll update this review in a few months with the final results! ... show more

  • Valuable Addition to Pool to Winter Routine!
I have used these before and they are awesome! If you wanna have a pool that winter’s over without having to take it down, drain it, or end up with sludge water come spring, then this ball is what you need. It is well worth the money to me and easy to use. We make sure our water is balanced, then we take our pump and hoses off (and plug hose holes), we pull the tab, and throw in the ball. Then put our winter cover on. Come spring the ball is empty and the pool water is clear with minimal debris. (I know this is different than the instructions, as we don’t run our pump, but it works for us). We wait until October to close down and May to open up. We have a 12’ round above ground pool that is 36” deep. (Just under 3,000 gallons) I do not know if it is still this effective on a much larger pool, but I do question that the box says it treats up to 30,000 gallons, but I don’t have the experience to say it’s wrong. There are very basic instructions on the box and instruction sheet so it’s easy to understand. (If this ball differs in effectiveness I will update this come Spring) ... show more
