I have a 10,000 gallon kidney shaped pool. Shallow side is 3.5 feet deep. Deep side is 6 feet deep. The bottom isn't flat and it curves up on the sides from bottom to top. I'm experienced with maintaining a pool. I have a System 3 diatomaceous earth filter that has 53 sq ft of filter space. Run the pump 12 hours a day at 2200rpm to achieve balance between energy usage and turning the pool over (happens about every 3 hours according to the math). I loath hauling out my pole, sweeper, filter canister, and connecting all of this to the pump via the skimmer to vacuum the floor and sides of my pool. Take too long, too many nuances. Been doing it this way for decades. I figured technology could make it easier for me. Aside - I don't use an auto vacuum since I have dogs that swim all the time. Don't want them to catch a hose and drown. The main things that litter my floor are dog hair, sand / crushed granite from nearby paths, material from the roof of my house, leaves from many trees, and DE powder from when I spray the filters after vacuuming (backs out thru the line). I grew up swimming in creeks so having a perfectly clean pool isn't my goal. I just know I need to clean it from time to time in order to keep algae from forming. In general, I keep my DE filter clean by back washing once a month, I vacuum the floor about once a month, and I skim weekly. I finally decided to try one of the automated, cordless vacuums. These are the ones I tried. POOL BLASTER Max CG, $299 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002L61OGA Paxcess Cordless Robotic Cleaner, $318.09 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B088JWRWGM AIPER Cordless Automatic Pool Cleaner, $876.81 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09KY211BP Winner was the Pool Blaster. Paxess - Filter screen is about 180µm which wasn't able to catch all the DE (DE is generally less than 100µm in size). The unit blew much of the DE back into the water. It did filter some. - Wasn't strong enough to climb up from my deep end so it remained in the deep end. - I felt the Paxess performed better than the Aiper in my pool. Might not for yours. - Charging was easy. Battery worked fine. Lasted about an hour. Aiper - Filter screen was much too big. Couldn't catch DE nor sand. Manufacturer didn't disclose size of filter. Blew debris right back into pool. - Unit claims to climb up walls. Mine didn't. It would attempt to climb it, back flip, then try again...over and over as it worked around the pool. Very odd behavior. - Charging was easy. Battery worked fine. Lasted about an hour. Pool Blaster Max CG - I really like this tool. It's different than the robots. It's a self contained, battery operated, cordless device. But, you attach it to the end of your pole. - I'm used to using a pole to work on my pool and I like the exercise of using my legs, arms, and core. - So, this tool really spoke to me. - Comes with 2 filters: one for general debris and one for super fine stuff like DE. The DE one is excellent! It captured all of my DE. However, I had to empty it after every length of the pool (short length of about 6 feet). I had to empty it about 30 times in order to clean all the DE off the entire bottom of my pool. This sucked (<-- pun) - So, I modified my approach. I turned up my pool motor to max RPM and scrubbed the pool to get the DE in solution. Then the next day I vacuumed with the general filter. This seemed to greatly help but it wasn't perfect. - So, I reset my expectations and my process. The next time I sprayed the filters in my DE bubble, I emptied the bubble into my sewer line of my house (very easy and fast for me to do). I don't run backwash / pool water waste to my yard because the chlorinated water damages my trees and vegetation. Then, I capped my line that goes back to my pool. Spray quickly. Then reassemble and I'm done. - Now, when I use the Pool Blaster, I can use the general filter basket and I can vacuum the whole pool in 30 min. Doing it the old way with the hose, vacuum head, canister, etc used to take 2 hours because of how many times I had to stop and tend to the nuances. I also had to backwash / clean the filters in the DE bubble to avoid algae building up in the bubble - Emptying the filter of the pool blaster is super fast. Take me less than 2 min. I shake it out into a bucket, then I rub it while dunking it into the skimmer. Then back to work. Suggestion to Pool Blaster If they had a filter that was in between the size of the fine one and the general one, it'd be even better. Overall, I'm happy with the Pool Blaster. I'm happy that the time to done is 30 min vs 2 hours. And, I don't have to clean my DE filter after vacuuming the pool to avoid algae building up in the DE canister. The Pool Blaster is a completely separate tool which means my DE filter remains untouched and hence I don't have to clean it every time. We live in a hot, humid environment so fighting algae is always a thing. Giving 5 stars since my use case might be odd.

I BOUGHT THIS TO CLEAN MY 21' ABOVE GROUND POOL AND IT WORKS GREAT. IT CLEANS LEAVES, ALGAE, SAND AND ALL WELL BEFORE THE BATTERY RUNS OUT. I CHARGE IT AFTER EVERY USE AND IT'S READ TO GO THE NEXT TIME I NEED IT. IT'S SO EASY TO USE TOO. JUST HOOK IT TO YOUR POLE AND YOU ARE READY TO GO... NO HOSE TO GET IN YOUR WAY AND IT DOESN'T TAKE WATER OUT OF YOUR POOL LIKE A VACUUM DOES. I'VE USED IT FOR 2 SEASONS NOW WITH NO PROBLEMS. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND IT. ***The 3rd season the vacuum stopped working so I sent it in to be repaired under extended warranty I purchased but they could not fix it. They refunded the price of the vacuum which was $249.99 but I had to eat the cost of tax and extended warranty. I bought a Dolphin Nautical automatic vacuum and I had to purchase another extended warranty. So far I’m very happy with the dolphin and it’s a lot less work. Just put it in the pool and watch it work instead of you!😃

We recently installed a 22' x 12' in ground pool which I maintain myself. After the first time using the vacuum that attaches to the pool suction line, I knew this was something that I would never do. I looked at the electric robot vacuums in the $500-600+ range, but then saw the Pool Blaster Max CG and thought it might be a good alternative for a small pool. The reviews were generally good and I bought it. We live in Florida and the pool is in a screened cage so leaves aren't a problem, but the bugs that get through the screen are. The pool Blaster met all my expectations and did a great job - until it stopped working after about two months. Wouldn't charge. I called Water Tech and someone actually answered the phone. I had the pleasure of dealing with Alyssa who was knowledgeable and extremely helpful. We went through the process of doing the RMA thing, I sent the unit back, and within 48 hours of their receiving it it was shipped back to me and I'm once again able to vacuum the pool. I don't know that it does the job one of the robot units that run for several hours, but I'm happy with it. I think the ideal scenario would be to have both. Use the robot once a month for a total clean and use the Pool Blaster weekly. Pros: Easy to use, does a great job with the small particles. Cons: Since the battery is not lithium ion, it can't stay on the charger and charging time has to be monitored (I use a timer so as not to over charge). The only other issue is the ON/OFF switch. Can be hard to turn and needs to be lubricated. If it weren't for these issues, I would give it 5 stars. In short, the Pool Blaster Max CG works well and the customer service by Water Tech is outstanding. Thanks Alyssa!

I have a smaller, less than 10,000-gallon inground pool. Let me just begin with if your goal is to remove leaves and bigger debris from your pool then this product is not for you. You should probably go buy yourself a leaf skimmer bag or a pool robot that crawls around the bottom and sucks leaves. But, if your goal is to remove the fine particles that have settled at the bottom of your pool, things like dirt, sand, silt, tree pollen, the kind of things that a pool skimmer net, or a bottom dwelling pool robotic won't capture then this is the product for you! If you're wondering what the difference is between the $199 Pool Blaster Max Li, and the $328 Pool Blaster Max Li CG Commercial Grade handheld pool vacuum it would be this! The Max Li CG model offers approximately 33% more suction power, has a wider vacuum head and offers a higher debris capacity then the standard Max Li. I know this to be true because for the past 2 years, I've been using the standard Max Li and just recently upgraded to the Max Li CG. I would definitely recommend spending the extra $100 and going with the CG model. The 33% more suction power makes a world of difference and will knock your cleaning time in half. Both models only have an hour of battery life before a recharge is needed. So, if you are starting with a big mess, it will take you a few days to clear it. Things to know! Like any battery powered product, the battery will weaken over time. If you are expecting the battery to last over 2 years you should probably go with a $2,000 fancy robotic who refuses to pick up anything but leaves and goes willy nilly every chance it gets. I personally would rather spend $300 on a pool vac that actually works even if I do have to replace it in a few years. Tip: Your vac will last longer if you keep it inside the house where it's nice and cool instead of out in the heat. Also, make sure your vac charging port is fully dry before plugging it in to charge.

UPDATE SEPT 16, 2017 Changed my rating from a 2 Star to a 1 Star (because there is no ZERO stars. The idea is great and when it works it works OK not as good as the earlier version. Bottom line - Unless you enjoy spending as much time FIXING it as USING it - STAY AWAY - too UNRELIABLE - way too EXPENSIVE. Perhaps you should not have asked for my review - but you did so here it comes. The 2 stars say "I don't like it" - not exactly true. I don't like it as much as the earlier version "pool blaster" I borrowed from a friend. 1) On the second use I had to take it apart to repair a bad connection 2) While I had it apart I noticed the battery pack seemed abnormally hot (warm I understand - hot just don't seem right). 3) Noticed when removed from the water - cloudy water coming from exhaust port (means it don't filter all the fine partials- just sucks them thru the filter and returns them to the pool water). The original got everything. 4) Now for some unknown reason some idiot engineer thought it necessary to take a perfectly good design and change the pole position such that the center of gravity is "above" the pole rather than below (as in the original) --- well let's just say I hope he is now eating from a dumpster. 5) The original you can see the debris on the outside of the filter - the new one it's on the inside. Bottom line - the one I borrowed did finally crap out - I bought it from my friend - fixed it - it's working great for daily clean-up use - my wife 75 yo prefers it to the poorly balanced one I am reviewing. The one I am reviewing does work for the heavier stuff but knowing what I do now I would have passed on this one altogether. I will be keeping the one I am reviewing if for no other reason than extending the life of the original I fixed. My background - 45 years "cat herding" and cleaning up after other "engineers". We have a 27 foot above ground. Our pool cover was mutilated in a spring storm therefor it sat uncovered for a couple months, giving us a pretty significant algae bloom to fight. We got it completely cleared but were left with a lot of fine algae sediment on the pool floor. Originally tried cleaning it up with our traditional vacuum that runs through the pump and filter but that clogged our sand filter repeatedly. Ordered this to save water and save the wear on our filter system. It does work. It sucks up the fine algae however it clogs and loses suction very quickly and has to be rinsed out after a few minutes. I would not consider this to be commercial grade by any means as it’s described. It charges nice and has a good run time. Its significantly more convenient than grabbing out the hose, hooking it up, messing with the pump, etc. I would consider this to be for like spot cleaning a small area and wouldn’t recommend as your main cleaning source.

This is our 4th Pool Blaster and our 2nd Pool Blaster Max CG The later model Max CG lasts much longer We’ve used these vacs for our pool for many years They are efficient and convenient over hooking up tubes to vacuum It’s a simple one tool very sufficient tool needed for any size and type of pool. There are extras you can buy if needed. When we had a hurricane some years back we were able to buy an additional vacuum bag that will pick up leaves sand and minute debris Great pool tool !!!

Here’s an honest pool vac review from someone who actually uses the things. We got a swim spa and so I needed a vaccum for sand and silt pick up not handled by the pool filter. On the swim spa the pool side and the spa side have pleated paper filters which don’t really pick up much of the debris that ends up in the bottom or the steps. Well the first cordless pool vac was the high end teal blue and yellow one that starts with E. DO NOT BUY ONE OF THOSE! After it abruptly died I read reviews again and ordered the “Pool Blaster Max CG” way better suction on the Pool Blaster Max CG but I wouldn’t consider it commercial grade. Also the opening for sucking up debris is just over 1” across so think of marbles. I don’t know how they sucked up leaves in the commercial but it isn’t happening in real life. So if you plan on sucking up leaves you need to remove them with a net first and then fire up the large 2 1/2” commercial grade tube vac that dumps into your large outside the unit filter. This is for quick pick ups of sand, silt and small debris tracked in by feet. Not what got dumped in your pool by a hurricane or tornado! Sorry my phone ate my first use video. But the unit comes with 2 debris socks/filters. The first one I used looked fine enough to catch everything but silty sand just blew out of it. It looked like it had got it all sucked up but 2 hours later it was stacked up in the corners again. So the next day which is this video I went over things again this time with the thicker fabric filter sock. This material is a lot like aquarium filter material so it catches everything including all the fine silty material. The new Pool Blaster has a few design issues but all in all it is a HUGE improvement over my first choice in pool vacs. Always remember to start and stop the motor under water. You can vaccum by being inside the pool but you must walk and go a slow and use a sweeping motion back and forth to catch the sand and stuff without kicking it up with your feet. You can also vaccum from outside the pool just use a gentle back and forth sweeping motion and don’t get in a hurry and stir things up away from the vaccum head. Also remember to store your vaccum with the head turned up so the bristles don’t touché the floor/ground otherwise you will destroy your bristles. The head on the Pool Blaster is considerably larger than others on the market and the stiffer bristles do a much better job. Also has greater suction but it still has a small opening for what it sucks up to go inside inside the sock filter. But if you have a small pool and need to vaccum dirt and sand tracked in by the kids and don’t want to hassle with the commercial vaccum and have to do all the hassle of back flushing your main filter then this might be a good choice for you.
