Description

The Polaris 380 pressure-side pool cleaner (view larger). The Polaris Vac- Sweep 380 pressure cleaner works in all in-ground pools, and requires a booster pump (sold separately). Featuring the iconic Polaris three-wheel design, the Polaris 380's all-wheel, belt drive mechanism provides greater vacuum power and faster cleaning (3 hours or less). Powered by triple jets, the Polaris 380 sweeps, scrubs, and vacuums the bottom, walls, and steps of any size or shape pool, and it holds debris in its single chamber filter bag. Its unique filter bag removes debris before it reaches your pump basket or filter, prolonging the life of your filtration system. An in-line back-up valve automatically frees the 380 if it gets cornered and keeps it cleaning without interruption. Works in all in-ground pools (view larger). The 380 requires a separately available booster pump, such as the PB4-60. Polaris pressure pumps are specifically designed to operate your cleaner at optimum cleaning efficiency. The compact, rugged design allows for maximum performance.Excellent ManeuverabilityThis pressure-side pool cleaner climbs walls and maneuvers over stairs, picking up large debris such as leaves, acorns and pebbles.Maximizes Water Circulation and FiltrationDistributing heated water to the deepest parts of the pool as it cleans, the 380 will completely clean your pool in a few hours, giving you more time to enjoy it.Large Capacity Zippered Filter BagThe 380 collects and deposits debris before it reaches the pump basket or filter, reducing filter cleanings up to 80 percent, thus prolonging the life of the filtration system and reducing maintenance time. What's in the Box380 Pressure-side pool cleaner; 31-foot hose kit; deck or wall mount; and operating instructionsAbout PolarisPolaris cleaners are the number one recognized brand of pool cleaners worldwide and have enjoyed 40 years as the top selling pressure pool cleaner. • Works great
This is my third Polaris 380; one came with the house when I bought it in 1994. After a few repairs, I bought a new one in the mid 2000s. That one finally got too bad to repair economically, so this is my third and probably last. My only negative comment is that it came in a generic box, with no packing, but survived the FedEx handling in fine shape. It was installed and up and running in about 30 minutes, no problems. ... show more

  • Arguably the best on the market!
Our 10 year old Polaris 280 (image included) finally gave up the ghost and it we decided to shop for its replacement. We looked at other brands of side pool cleaners but we had such great success with Polaris that, for us, it was only a decision between the Polaris 280 or the 380. Both the 280 and 380 require a booster pump, about a $250 additional cost if you don’t already have one. The Polaris 360 does not require the booster pump and is around $75 less than the 280 and $200 less than the 380. Based on all of our research we decided to go with the 380 and we have no regrets. The improvement over our old cleaner was very noticeable, especially it’s ability to climb and clean the pool steps as well as the sides. I added a great photo of it running along the walks of our pool. The installation instructions are easy to read and implement and the ability to adjust the speed of the cleaner and the tail sweep are simple. If you are shopping for the cheapest side cleaner on the market, the Polaris 380 is not it. But, if you want the best, and either have, or are willing to install, a booster pump, then the 380 can’t be beat! ... show more

  • Works great
This is my second one, the first crapped out due to my errors of adding shock while it was still in the pool. I can overhaul once I figure out how. Now I have the new one, and right out of the box it works perfectly. Did find a wheel off this AM, but it popped right back on. The bag is smaller than my first one, so they are useless. Guess the bag that came with it will have to do for now. Very satisfied, although the price was very expensive imo. There are cheaper models, so I picked the midrange. ... show more

  • Does not work at all
I normally don't write reviews but this time I felt I had to. I felt like I had done my research and decided on this cleaner after all of the mostly positive reviews. My experience is that this cleaner does not clean, gets stuck constantly in the corner near the stairs, zipper on catch bag is broken after the first attempted use, and the catch bag has already ripped. I ran this for 40 hours straight and there is still dirt and leaves on the bottom of my pool. We just recently completed an upgrade and remodel of our pool. Previously, I had used Dolphin robots because we did not have a booster pump. I was encouraged to go for the booster pump and get one of these cleaners during the remodel. What a mistake! I think I will be going back to the pool robot that did a much better job. I feel like the booster pump was such a waste of money. If there are better pool cleaners out there, I would love to find one. ... show more

  • Pricey, expensive to maintain over time but works best
This is my 3rd in the 18 years we've had this home with a pool. **** update after 11 months of use below**** The 380 runs about 3 hours a day ( large pool). Replacement parts such as the collection bag are expensive, I use a piece of panty hose once the bag wears out. The tires do wear down and a soft rubber shoe goop type stuff can be used to "re-tread". I use pieces of scotch brite pad to replace the sweeper pad. ( complete rebuild kits including bearings are about $225 from a specialist shop)--- but eventually the chassis wears out. It is fairly resistant to chemicals( not the bag!) , but should be pulled when shocking the pool This latest unit arrived ready to go out of the box. Cosmetically it differs slightly from the older units and I can see some changes to the design, hopefully for the better! I connected the line to my existing fitting ( requires a booster pump), and to the 380,installed the bag, checked the hose connections for tightness ( some were not) and turned on the pump. The measured RPMS were 30 so no pressure adjustments needed but it is easy and spelled out in the manual. I'll watch it tonight when it goes through the cycle and see if the sweeper or jet need adjustment, but the short test run was stellar. The 380 can be counted on to remove leaves, palm seeds, dirt, grit, golf balls and even rocks from the pool, which we found out when a trenching machine went out of control in the alley adjacent. I have not seen a better pool sweeper/cleaner/sucker. It'll stir up the fine stuff it cannot trap ( panty hose works better than the bag as it is finer) and the fine stuff can get to the pool filter. It has a reversing timer that will keep it from getting stuck on steps or in a corner, about every 2 minutes it'll be pulled backwards and start somewhere new. It can be adjusted for how much climbing the walls and whether it goes straight or circles depending in what works best for your pool shape. The pricing at amazon was much better than the local store(s) and with the 20% offer, I was in. free ship, no 9.25% tax and a final price about 60% of the local store OTD price. 1 day Update: after the first night's operation ( about 4 hours) the pool hasn't been so clean in a long, long time--- it shows how worn the old 380 was. I will be able to reduce the running time of the booster and main pumps, so I'll save a few ¢¢¢ on electricity. The new hose system is more flexible with fewer swivel joints to go bad, the cleaner climbs the walls better, I think the new hose system puts less drag on it. The new bag system with zipper is easier to clean than the old velcro system- as the gunk would get trapped and held by the hook side of the velcro Really, this thing was set-up out of the box ready to go- unlike the units I purchased years ago After 11 months, still happy as a clam- we had a big dust storm here which covered the bottom of the pool completely with brown grit and although the grit is too fine to be picked up by the Polaris, it kept the dirt suspended so that the filter eventually grabbed it all after about 8 hours operation. the tubing is still nice a flexible, and I have needed to replacement parts yet... • New Replacing Old Polaris 380 - Great Performance
I bought a home about two years ago with a pool. The pool already had a Polaris 380 but it was at least 15 years old. The Polaris was faded and worn looking. I had to replace parts over the last year and decided to get a quote to rebuild it. The quote from a local dealer was "about $300". I checked on the kits to do it myself and they also were high. The dealer wanted $750 for a new unit. I looked on Amazon and found a great buy for a couple of hundred less than the dealer price. So....I decided to buy a new one in hopes of getting 15 years out of the new one. Simple installation as I just cut the hose using the old hose for length measurement. Had in the pool within 30 minutes and let it run overnight. Wow - This cleaned the pool...including going up the walls. I have an electric pool cleaner that I use when the pool is a mess such as after a storm. This new unit cleaned as good as my electric pool cleaner. This really showed me how poor my original was performing. I am amazed and very pleased with the performance. ... show more
