  • Lots of power packed under the hood, but in need of better instruction manual
Model: sk300
The K300 Podcast Equipment Bundle really packs in a lot of value for those starting out in podcasting. The equipment here allows for a lot of versitility and produces good sound. The device is pretty amazing for something in this price range; however, the included manual is rather sketchy and you will have to figure out a lot via experimentation. The microphone has a nice, old-time-radio look to it. It is more than good enough for voice recording but not nuanced enough for recording instruments. That said, for being an add-on bundled with a sound board, this is really well above average. This is certainly not a Blue Yeti mic or even quite a Blue Snowball, but for making podcasts in your home studio, this is more than adequate. There was no buzzing and this was not a USB mic--it uses a standard mic cable. The one supplied is a little on the cheap side, but if you have one that is higher end, this mic can really shine. The sound board is really quite something for this price range. It is not a full mixing board but has a lot of bells and whistles that will suit you just fine for your home, podcast studio. Connectivity is really quite astounding for a device this small. Power is supplied via an internal battery (a major plus) which is charged via the USB PC link which also allows for PC connectivity. There are a variety of 3.5 mm cable connectors: 2 mic jacks (in); headset (out); 2 earpiece jacks (out); speaker (out); an accompaniement port (in) to pipe in recordings/music. There is an additional OTG link for digital transmission to with mobile phones or computers. If desired there is also onboard bluetooth connectivity. The controls are also astounding for a sound board in this price range. The designers allowed for recording or live, so--what the heck--all buttons are backlit. There are a number of mode selection buttons for quick equalization and/or voice changing. These are presets, but that is to be expected when you don't have room for multiple faders and multiple gain nobs. The buttons don't afford the same control of the sound as sliders would but are much easier and more accessible for the beginner. Buttons include KTV mode for karaoke; Purge Original button to purge the vocal tracks in a two channel sterio song (turn the song into accompaniment); Original Mode to get the song back in full; Concert (low reverb for professional singing); Studio (low reverb but high mic gain); There are also voice changing effects including male, female, child, and monster. The amount of the Voie changers could be used for effects alone or for making prank calls as you might hear on the radio (not something I would do or recommend). There are 16 sound effects including applause, laughter, lightening, face slap, kiss, and some short music quotes and epithets that could be used to spice up a podcast or create dramatic moods. It would have been nice to be able to change them by uploading your own sounds, but you only have this option on higher end equipment. The sounds range from servicible to downright cheesy. There is a dodge button to lower all volume but the mic input. There are additional buttons for Electrotone (autotuning) and noise reduction--both features work serviceably well. Finally, there are three different drum beats--none all that charismatic but might do in a pinch. There is a main volume button that has quite a range and nobs to increase mic gain in low/middle/high ranges; a nob to control the amount of dodging; and a nob to control the monitor volume. There are sliders to control recording volume (mic in) and accompaniment sound levels. On the whole the equipment is easy to use. I would not recommend using Bluetooth to connect your earphones or headset, as--with many Bluetooth connections--there is a significant delay in the sound that will come to your ear. I you are recording this will be confusing. The whole set up has the potential to be pretty powerfull, but it would need a more detailed user guide. The one included only describes the various connectors and buttons and does not tell you how to use it. That said, for the home podcaster you could use this to record or use it live. The sound is actually quite good. Sure, you won't get professionl, high end, >$1000 sound board quality here, but it is more than adequate for the amateur podcaster. As a mixer, there are some fixed settings that will serve most needs and you are able to control levels of the mics and other sounds piped in. All in all, I was quite surprised at the value here. Again, you will have to ascertain your needs and buy accordingly but for someone just starting out with the podcast thing, this is more than servicable and has some nice bells and whistles. There is lots of power packed under the hood hear and really quite decent sound for this price range. However, I do wish the company would have provided a more robust manual or video tutorials. ... show more

  • Has some issues
Model: sk300
I got this for my 13 year old and this is what he has to say about this product: "Ok, so let's start with the sound card. I have a YouTube channel, so I was really hoping this would make my videos better. It has potential if you know how to use it. I got it for my birthday, and when I opened it, it took me forever to figure out how to actually put it into effect into a recording (you connect it to the microphone, and you connect the board to the camera). I wish the instructions were more specific, because it will take forever to figure out what each button does. There are still some buttons I haven’t figured out what they do. There are voice filters, which are cool. There are sound effects, which most of them are really weird and stupid and I would never use in any of my videos. And then there 4 buttons which change the environment your voice is in, which they all sound the same. So I feel this could be a really cool instrument, but it is really complicated and it will take forever to even get a remote idea of how it works. Then there is the microphone. It looks really cool and professional, but it is weak. I used it for one of my videos, and I practically had to kiss it to get an ok sound, and it still sounded a little bit muffled. I also think the stand makes it very unbalanced. It doesn’t take much to send it toppling over. I can’t tell you how many times it has fallen off my desk and onto the floor. There's no way I could use it in my videos unless it was a gaming video where I stay at my desk. So in conclusion, both of these need a lot of improving to make them good for YouTube videos or podcasts or any type of recording." ... show more

  • Good Package For Beginners
Model: sk300
Came across this podcast system while browsing Amazon and it caught my eye. The system comes in a nice box and is packaged well. In the box you get the mixer, condenser mic, shock mount, 2 sets of audio cables, a small desktop mic stand, USB power cable and a mic cable. Everything seems to be made with good quality except the mic and the stand. The mic is very small and is made of a plastic material and the entire stand is all plastic even though it looks metal in the pics. The mixer is well made and has a nice weight to it. The mixer has a ton of features and add ins with pretty much any kind of input you can ask for. You have plenty of options and a ton of control over your audio. The great thing about the mixer is that it has a built in battery and that enables you to take it anywhere and set up. The mic while although not made of the highest quality materials still has good sound quality but I would replace it with another if possible. One thing I could not figure out how to do was to add my own sound effects to the mixer, although it is possible I missed that feature in the instruction manual. In closing I think this is a good set up to get some one up and running out of the box who is new to the podcasting and streaming world. Just add your headphones and a pop filter and you are ready to go. ... show more

  • Good For a Beginner
Model: k300
It's good to start out with but not the best. The voice changer selection is good and they all sound nice. The soundboard can be plugged in to an outlet or charge the battery. The battery has a long life on it and I've used it for around eight hours on and off and haven't had to recharge the battery yet. The special effect sounds are not that great and I can't seem to change them and there is nothing about changing them in the instruction. ... show more
