  • Do not buy new version of this SSD after 2021 - was excellent but now it's not
Capacity: 1TB
PNY recently changed the TBW for this NVME SSD and I'm wondering if it's because they switched over to QLC instead of TLC previously. ADATA was caught doing this so I do not recommend buying any version of this SSD after 2021 because their TBW (for the 1TB version) has gone from 1665 to 360 which is an 80% decrease! I repeat: Do not buy this NVME SSD after 2021. I don't think Crucial, Sabrent or Samsung (they all make their own NAND) have resorted to these deceptive practices so get an SSD from them instead. Old review: There are 5 NVME SSDs that I consider to be the best bang for your buck. Samsung is off the list cause they're too expensive but their SSDs are extremely good and have a good warranty. Any of the below are great and have decent warranties (3-5 years). Buy whichever is cheaper as they all have Toshiba/Micron/Hynix NAND. 1. HP EX920 (hard to find in stock right now) 2. Inland Premium NVME 3. Sabrent Rocket NVME (Not Q version) 4. PNY CS3030 5. ADATA SX8200 Pro The PNY CS3030 actually checks off a lot of my requirements: -quad-core, 8-ch -has DRAM (DDR4 for 1TB-2TB, DDR3 for everything below 1TB) -TLC (better write capacity than QLC) -5 year warranty -3500read/3000write -Phison E12 (all of the good consumer NVMe SSDs use this and it's excellent) Please note that this does not contain an M.2 standoff so you may have to order one in case your motherboard or laptop doesn't have one. It is also doublesided but this will not affect most PCs or laptops unless yours is a really thin ultrabook like the Lenovo X1E which uses only single sided M.2 SSD. ... show more

  • FAST
Capacity: 1TB
PNY XLR8 CS3030 1TB M.2 Nvme Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) These are very good drives. I am a WD fan but I read reviews about these, mostly from Europe, and nothing but praise. Used Acronis to copy and was flawless. It has a 5 year warranty and you cannot beat the price. I would get these before they get hot and the price goes up. I also used this - NVMe Heatsinks for M.2 2280mm SSD Double-Sided Cooling Design ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QV4W1W6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) and the drive NEVER gets hot. Should work with boards that the video card covers the M2 slot also. Update 8-24-20: All is good! no issues at all and Am very satisfied. Am going to buy another for a new build! ... show more

  • BUYER BEWARE
Capacity: 1TB
When it works, this drive works well. It's quick (maxes out at ~2.9 GB/s on my system) and is easy to use. I bought the drive in October of 2019 but the drive started having issues in August of 2020 and fully died in September of 2020, which means it only lasted 11 months and that's where the issues come in. First, PNY doesn’t provide any diagnostics tools. When I first started having issues the S.M.A.R.T. reports all said everything was fine, but Dell's utility was showing issues. However there was no way to do further tests to confirm Dell's utility info. Talking to support was fine, and they gave me an RMA number so I could send the drive back but with two major issues: 1) They would not send a replacement ahead of time. I did an RMA for Western Digital years ago and they took my payment info and sent a new drive with the understanding that if I didn't send back the defective one, they would charge me for the replacement. No such option exists for PNY so I had two choices; Go without a computer for the two weeks needed for the RMA or, buy a replacement myself and… try to re-sell it later? 2) Return shipping is paid by the customer, and not by PNY. This isn't a huge cost, but again, it's a strike against them, especially since the issue is that the drive failed, so it’s not my fault. So, I ordered a cheap temporary drive and it thankfully arrived the day after this drive fully gave up the ghost (again, the day just before that, the S.M.A.R.T. reports all said everything was fine, but Dell's utility said there were issues). I shipped the drive back Monday, it arrived Friday and they shipped the replacement Tuesday and it arrived Saturday. So a total of 13 days for the turnaround from the time I shipped the drive until the replacement came. The replacement is brand new and appears to be an updated version (thinner flash modules and they are only on one side rather than both sides). It's working well and I'm hoping for multiple years of service from it, but I'm not holding my breath. If they paid for return shipping and gave me an option of getting the replacement before shipping back the defective drive, this review would be glowing. But because of those issues, I can’t recommend buying any hard drive from PNY because if you need to use the 5 year warranty, it’s a pain. ... show more

  • A solid drive that meets its value expecations
Capacity: 1TB
It runs at the rated speeds per the capacity (3300+ read 2900+ write in my first test). You will get some variance from other users, some results faster some slower, but that's hardware for you. PNY is as reliable of a brand as Samsung in my experience and the XLR8 (accelerate) line is their top performer. This is peak M.2 PCIE 3 NVME. If you need the highest performance even in the other reads/writes then I'm sure Samsung and WD might hit them harder, but not for the price. The only thing missing though is a nice sticker in the box. I get them with products I don't expect to and don't get them in products I would expect them in. Such is life. ... show more

  • I am happy
Capacity: 2TB
I researched high and low to see if anyone was using these in a Gigabyte Z490 AORUS Master since they were not listed in the QVL list but came up empty, so threw caution to the wind and took a risk buying TWO 2GB sticks. Well I wanted to report back for anyone also researching this info that they DO work! As far as I can tell anyway. I have had zero issues. I have not run any benchmarks, because I do not care much since these are storage drives. I just want them to be stable and so far I have not experienced a single hiccup. They are very snappy 'feeling'. I simply popped them in and they were immediately recognized. They run VERY cool. My OS drive is a crucial M.2 and it runs in the upper 40's C. These both run at a consistent 29C. ... show more
