We have been using this for a few months. It is a sturdy, well made rack. The quality of the foam seems excellent, and I believe that most of the rack is made of aluminum that is thick enough to work well. It was easy to install on our 2011 Honda Pilot with factory rails. There is not enough room for two of these racks on top, but using this in combination with another single carrier, we can carry 3 kayaks on top. We carried a large kayak on this during strong winds, and I was worried about the rack, but it held up well. This rack was much easier to assemble, install and tighten than the single carrier that we purchased. The straps that came with this are not the best, but better than some others we have used.

Easy to assemble, did have a few hole that were hard to get the screw in but still was able to get them in. Sits nice on my Outback Subaru. I was very nervous as it was our first time using the racks let alone carrying two kayaks but it did great. After getting rid of my anxiety it road smoothly and they were sturdy. Not bad for the price. I do wonder going faster 40mph what they might be like but I will be upgrading the straps as I don’t feel comfortable going past that with the straps it comes with. Over all it was easy to put together, mount onto the racks and got the job done. 4 stars just because it needs better straps.

This is a great quality addition to our roof rack to mount our kayaks! The straps they provide with them are thin, we purchased more stable straps for $20. I wish we would have bought this sooner!

Don’t buy this product. The hole in the smaller piece isn’t cut big enough for a screw to go into it. Bad quality and you can tell they mass produce these without any inspection. Now I’m stuck with 3 out of the 4 so I get 75% of what I paid for. Would do 0 stars if I could

Style: J-Bar Kayak Roof Rack
For $50, you get what you pay for with this item, and as long as you know that, it's ok. The j-bars require assembly, and everything was packaged nicely in the box. The j-bars, metal bracket plates, and rubber bases were all put in bubble wrap, and the hardware was in its own ziplock bag. An instruction sheet was included - no words really just a single large diagram of how all the pieces were to assemble. For someone not used to assembling things like this and reading lackluster instructions, it could be confusing. Once I figured it out and got the right tools (deep-socket and rachet are useful), it probably took 15-20 minutes total for assembly. Installing the j-bars on the roof crossbars was not hard, but I have to warn you that at least with my package, two of the eight plastic knobs were threaded incorrectly or manufactured incorrectly, and wouldn't tighten on the mounting screws. On one of them, using channel-locks just broke the plastic knob. They really aren't needed to be honest, so I used a 13mm wrench and tightened the mounting nuts that way. Took a longer but no worries. The j-bars themselves are sturdy, have nice padding on them, and look nice. I carried two kayaks 40+ miles on the highway and no issues at all after I installed the j-bars. However, the cam straps that came with the set were at least 24" too short and weren't able to be used to tie-down the kayaks. Basically, the cam straps were useless, though I was able to use two of them together to use as a bow tie-down on one of the kayaks. Thankfully I had brought four rachet straps with me just in case, so I had to use those instead of the cam straps. I have since purchased cam straps from Lowe's that are much longer. So, the j-bars themselves get 5-stars, the cam straps and knobs get 1-star. Overall, 3-stars.

I bought this with intentions to use it for my large fishing kayak, however it did not support it fully. I do believe however that this would work perfectly for normal smaller and lighter kayaks. This mechanism is easy to mount on any car with support racks and seemed to be cushiony enough for the kayaks as to not scratch them. Seems to wobble a bit with the extra weight but most likely holds well for smaller kayaks.
