  • Great tripod
Size: PT244
This tripod checks a lot of the boxes that I seek in a good tripod, yet it cost a fraction of some of the others with comparable features. Let's begin at the top and work our way down. The tripod mount plate is removable and easily attaches to a standard threading on a camera; it has a bubble level, and a nice, smooth ball head with a slotted indent for vertical shots that is controlled with a machined metal knob that releases with a slight twist. The entire head rotates, also controlled with a grooved threaded metal knob. The top rotates and is marked in degrees, so that you can do a pan and stitch, or other shots that require accurate placement of the camera on a horizontal plain. The center pole raises and lowers with a rubberized twist knob and raises to a height of 45 inches without extending the legs. The center pole has a hook on the underside for attaching an additional weight for increased sturdiness. The three legs are loosened and tightened with a clip-style release. One of the legs removes for use as a unipod. The legs themselves pivot by means of a metal release which is easy to use and precise, and are tipped with a rubber foot. Full extension of the legs increases the total height to 77 inches. Completely folded it is 25 and a quarter inches. The legs and center pole are aluminum and light weight for traveling, yet sturdy. Hardware is all metal; clips on the legs and the ball head are plastic. Overall this is a great tripod for a fair price. The tripod comes with a nylon travel bag that it fits nicely in, and an allen key for adjusting the three metal leg hinges. I find this very useful for travel when I need a nice lightweight yet sturdy tripod. @chriscorey_photography (Instagram) ... show more

  • A Great All Around Tripod!
Size: PT244
I've used at least ten different tripods over the years, but the PHOPIK stands out from the crowd in many ways. One of my biggest considerations with any tripod that I buy (after I know it will support my gear the way I need it to) is whether I'm going to actually pack it in my suitcase or backpack when traveling near or far (space and weight are always a concern). I found this one to be very well designed. The PHOPIK tripod has a Arca-type QR plate and is robust enough to easily support my Nikon D800 with a grip and my Tamron G2 f/2.8 lenses. I've included photos showing those combos. The ball head has a 90-degree notch to make it easy to switch from landscape to portrait. Overall, I found the movements of the head to be butter-smooth. The knob is large and easy to adjust. The markings on it are helpful and are a bit like a volume control. The smaller knob is easy to adjust as well, and it was rock solid after tightening. I haven't used the third panoramic base knob much. I found the stability to be excellent in most cases (even when shooting at exposures of about 10-20 seconds). It was most stable without the center column extended, but also very stable with the center column fully extended because of its thickness, as long as I extended just the top two or three leg segments. Reversing the adjustable center column was extremely easy, and I can see myself doing that if I need to photograph small- to medium- sized objects from directly above. The ability to take one leg off and convert it into a monopod is a nice feature and I found it not to cumbersome and will use it if needed when on trips. This tripod and head combo from PHOPIK has earned a place in all of my bag in which it will fit, as well as my highest recommendation. ... show more

  • Easy to use
Size: PT234
For someone who's never used a tripod before, this one is really great. Easy to set up, easy to use, easy to move around. Everything was straightforward and I've not had any complications or complaints. Definitely worth the purchase.

  • First impressions
Size: PT244
first impressions. I will update my review when I have had more time spent with it. First impressions on this tripod is good for me. It’s lighter than what it looks. It comes with a carrying soft pouch / case. The design of the tripod is something I haven’t seen before. It’s something I am getting used to but it’s a good welcome. - As you can see in the pictures how the tripod folds out. Because of this design, it does have its perks for being shorter than most I’ve used. The material of the tripod I think is a mixture of plastic and aluminum. But it is sturdy and durable from what I’ve tested just for the short time I’ve had time with it. It can hold my Canon 77D with my Sigma 17-50, those two combined are pretty heavy. The tripod itself can extend pretty tall as the description says. I haven’t had a tripod that can go this tall. I’m definitely loving that about it. I make YouTube videos and this is a nice addition. My other tripods I’ve had over the years were always so short. - The tripod has a ball type of head. The nobs on it turn and lose very smoothly and when loosened the tripod head maneuvers very well. No jerks or shakes. It’s super fluid. Most tripods aren’t, you’d usually need to buy a fluid head for that but this is smooth like fluid heads. It could pass for video making. I like that. - It also has a latch that comes in handy, i tested its durability by shaking it around with my camera on there and it seemed to hold up. I honestly was a little skeptical about it actually holding up, I’d thought for sure my camera would come off or the latch itself but I shook it around pretty well. - One thing I don’t like about this tripod that might be a deal breaker for some is the release plate is a screw rather than a quick release. It might need be a deal breaker for you but if you are a run and go type of photographer, it can slow you down. I am just okay with it, I am definitely in between about it. But if you look at the features this tripod has. It might weigh it out for you. Like I said, I haven’t spent time in the ‘field’ with it. These are my first impressions. So far so good. ... show more
