I've used previous versions of these for years, because they're one of the few types that can actually cut my hair and not snag or break down. Opted for this new premium version this time, and the clippers themselves are quite nice! The height control is very precise and easy. I wish it had a turbo button, but the auto turbo works as it should. The main issue I have is that while all the other versions come with a bag or hard plastic container, this one comes with a formed clamshell case. It looks nice and seems great, fits the clippers nicely! But that's the only container it comes with. That means the height comb attachments, the cord, and cleaning brush do not fit. They also don't have a little bag or anything. I'll be using an old bag from a different brand clippers to store it all in. Philips - you need to provide a bag with this like you do with the 7000 and 5000 models, in addition to the clamshell case. ... show more

Got this for my husband as we have started doing our own hair trims/cuts. Norelco quality is exceptional and this is no exception. It comes with 3 different combs, which allows you to customize your trim from 1mm to 42mm. I love the digital length control what can adjust to over 400 length settings making this truly universal for everyone. The smart motor adjusts the clipper’s speed based on the thickness of your hair, ensuring an even, and consistent cut every time. It features a double blade system that not only cuts faster but also stays sharp for much longer than typical clippers. We have been using this for almost 2 months and it still cuts like it did from day one. The motorized combs all you to pick the desired length with 0.1mm accuracy. The clipper does the rest for you. I love this feature because it ensures that the comb stays in place, so you don’t have to keep adjusting it as you are trying to cut. it makes it much easier to maintain the same length, especially when going for fades or layered styles. The memory function will keep track up to three lengths so you can just turn on and go. This feature doesn't really work for us because we use this for my husband and 2 boys, which all 3 do different style haircuts. It's light weight and easy to grip. Battery life is exceptional.     • Great compliment to Philips Norelco 7000 series
I've been cutting my hair and the hair of a family member on a regular basis since April 2020 when hair salons became unavailable, and I'm often told that my haircuts have come to rival the professionals. The two clippers I've been using are from Philips Norelco and Audoc, and I'm a 3x repeat buyer of both. With respect to the Philips Norelco clippers I've purchased, the first two have been the MG7750/49 model which in my experience seems to have a lifespan of almost exactly 2 years. When it recently came time for me to replace my second set of clippers, I ordered the MG7910/49 which Philips Norelco advertised as an upgraded model in the 7000 series. It's definitely an upgrade, mainly because of the "precision trimming guard" that offers incremental 0.2mm length settings when choosing a length between 1mm and 3mm. Shortly after picking up this replacement, I was offered this HC9450/40 model, which is an absolutely phenomenal upgrade that offers incremental 0.1mm length settings when choosing a length for the entire range of up to 42mm! The largest guard provided by the Audoc is 25mm, and the largest guard provided by the Philips Norelco MG7910/49 is 16mm, so I've typically been using the Audoc the most, reserving the Philips Norelco MG7910/49 for areas where I need finer precision, and the Audoc doesn't provide many of the guards provided by the Philips Norelco MG7910/49 such as eyebrow guard, nose and ear trimmer, and body guards. While this Philips Norelco HC9450/40 can be technically used for body hair, however, it only comes with a steel trimmer of the same size as the "extra-wide" trimmer of the Philips Norelco MG7910/49, so I plan to continue to use both of these in a complimentary way. Over time, I see my use of the Audoc fading away (pun intended) because this Philips Norelco HC9450/40 is far superior. The instruction guide that comes with this product is a bit useless, but fortunately it's very intuitive to use once you figure out how to insert the guards into the clipper body. To fine tune the desired hair length of up to 42mm, there are only 3 guards from which to choose, each covering a subset of this range that can be incremented through digital swipes of the handle. It definitely looks better quality in the photos than it is IRL, the casing is cheaper in person. It needed to be charged out the box, unlike most electronics on here that come half charged. The case it comes with only holds the razor, not any of the accessories (which defeats the purpose of having a case). Worst of all, when I opened it up to check out how you clean it - there was what appears to he shaving cream residue left in between certain parts.... So I think we may have received a used razor 🙃 ... show more

PROS I have cut my own hair for 10+ years mainly using small beard trimmers. I was surprised how close of a shave I got from these on the sides with a 0. I've tried other clippers and the 0 has been like a 0.5 instead. I like how I could hear the variable power system go to work when shaving a rough patch of hair that I usually have trouble with and have to go over a couple times. The first time I used these clippers I ended up with my hair exactly the way I wanted it, and in much faster time than my usual beard trimmers. It cuts and glides very smooth and were very easy to use. The case is good enough, gets the job done. CONS This is very ergonomic for use on others, but on yourself it's a little bulky and can be somewhat unwieldy. The screen shows the power level but would be nice if it also showed battery percentage. OVERALL This is a great set if you want to save money and give yourself and others haircuts.
