Received the Kindling Splitter and took it over to my brother's home where we had two large Red Oak trees which we have been making into firewood ..the problem being that the Red Oak is extremely HARD WOOD and is difficult to get the split pieces to ignite ..unless and until the starting fire is extremely hot. We needed a LOT of good kindling wood and this simple device provided it. Just took a medium size piece of split firewood .10-14 inches in length ..and placed on the blade ..used a heavy hammer and it easily split the wood into thin kindling with just a few hits ...filled up a cardboard box in about 30 minutes and enough kindling to light up a slew of fires ..The splitter even has a rubber cap to cover the blade when not in use. No more searching the ground area for small wood ..and the starting a big log fire is a snap ..Thanks so much

I have been using this with old hard woods like oak and bay laurel that have been sitting around the property... It does the trick. I use the back of my axe to hammer and bought a 4lb mallet for 20 bucks at home depot to finish the job when needed... I have a nice 3 foot log that i screwed it into and its the perfect height hitting the wood in... Make sure you look at the measurements as it is a little smaller that I thought it would be... But still does the trick..
