The Petzl GriGri is the most tried and true climbing belay device on the modern market. It's usable in most forms of climbing and makes it very easy even for beginners to learn good belay technique. Its widespread adoption speaks to its proven performance in real-world situations. The cam lock is smooth and grabs every time you need it to, but slides freely when you need to feed slack. The brake release lever is solid and very responsive, obviously important. The build quality is to a very high standard and my first one lasted me a very long time before I retired it just to be safe. (It still worked as intended). Climbing is a blast! And belaying a climber is a major skill needed for any type of climbing. Love my GriGri. It’s assisted braking is a nice upgrade, and it also gives a little added comfort to a nervous climber. Easy to use and sturdy. No issues. If not for the price, I’d probably get 2 or 3. (I have 3 ATC’s since they’re on the cheaper side) but a GriGri is a great purchase for any climber. Fun stuff. ... show more
