We moved into a house that already had an in-ground invisible fence installed. When we adopted a stray Pit Bull we were concerned about how well it would work with such a strong dog with unknown behavior. Since the dog had run off before and there are many dogs in the neighborhood I had my doubts that this would work at all for our situation. Our yard was way too big to fence in so we resorted to tying him on a lead which he hated. I purchased this "stubborn dog" model since pit bulls have a high pain tolerance and we were having issues controlling him as is. I was so weary of even trying him on it that the collar sat in a drawer for a couple months! We used a behavioralist to teach us how to work with our dog better and one of our final lessons we decided to set up the flags and see how he responded with the collar. We guided him around the yard on very light rope so he could learn the boundary. When we were finally ready to test it we had it set on 5 (max). When he decided to go beyond the boundary he was yelping and thrashed in a pretty disturbing way. He tested it a second time and again loud screaming as he ran right back to us. This was hard to watch and if I was doing it again I would start with the lowest correction settings like the instructions recommended. The result is that the dog has been very skittish outside now and it has taken quite a while to get him comfortable being outside again Overall though he loves the freedom and it's so much easier just letting him go out the door especially in the winter months. I highly recommend these systems. Yes my dog is pretty spooked by the boundaries to this day. However, I now have the piece of mind that my pit bull won't go sprinting through the neighborhood and get in trouble or danger. Earlier this week as I let him out and a cat was less than 10 feet away. He quickly chased it for a few seconds and stopped immediately as the cat ran out of the yard. Perfect! The best thing about this particular collar is that it takes 9 volt batteries. If you read reviews of other PetSafe collars people complain a lot about the proprietary battery. The fact that this uses 9 volts is great. I haven't even replaced it yet in 6 months of use. This collar as a result is bulky and heavy. I take if off whenever my dog is in the house. The actual collar part is not very high quality and I could envision replacing it down the road if a clip breaks or something. Pros - It works! Your dog will stay in the yard. - Uses 9 volt batteries and gets good battery life. - Highest correction probably too strong but works on big or aggressive dogs. Cons - Heavier and bulkier than standard Petsafe collar. You won't want to leave it on all the time. - The strap on the collar is flimsy and will probably fail before the actual receiver does.

we have a very stubborn very large dog,, this system works so well, it's hard to believe it's the same dog,, no longer does he chase cats or chickens, as soon as he gets close to the wire he stops and looses all interest in what ever he is chasing , now cars can come and go out of my driveway,, no worry about him getting run over,, Now that its been over a year, he forgets when he doesn't have the collar on and still respects the wire line..

If your looking this over and are checking the one star reviews on let me tell you its sadly user error. The system works great the 20ga wire is not the best for signal strength. My suggestion is get the 16ga 1k foot wire amazon suggest. Better signal strength. As for the collars that comes with the system please NOTE! THESE COLLARS ARE NOT FOR DOG THAT ARE NOT FULLY TRAINED ON THIS STYLE OF COLLAR. They dont have the large enough static feed back to correct most dogs. I use them on my 2 older dogs who are well trained on static correction collars. And I had to buy the stubborn dog onces for my other 3 who were notorious for breaking line when we had the halo system. Which has stopped them 100%.

(Collar only) We had the line professionally installed years ago, and used a basic PetSafe collar for our first two GSPs. They never broke the fence. Our new GSP puppy decided the squirrels or the neighbor’s rabbit were worth the highest level of shock for the basic collar, so we bought this “stubborn dog” collar to try. Level 2 didn’t work, but Level 4 has kept her contained even when a squirrel ran over the line in front of her. We’ll back it down now that she knows, and will have the ability to go up to level Five in the future if needed. This collar also has a very clear vibration and beep, which the basic collar was missing. That has made a big difference, too, with our Stubborn Prey-driven pup! The collar is heavy, but our 6-month-old 40-pound puppy is fine with it. I prefer the 9-volt battery to a specialized one anyway. Overall we are very pleased!

I absolutely LOVE this product. I have a dog that we found 2 years ago and after a year of posting flyers we finally admitted he could stay. Every thunderstorm or 4th of July he would get out no matter what precautions we put in place. If that wasn't bad enough, he then started getting out when he was lonely or when we went on a walk. Last year he got caught on a nail going under the fence and tore a gash open on his side but that didn't stop him from esaping again just as the stitches were healing. I piled stuff up in front of the fence, built a chicken-wire barrier and burried rocks\paving stones. He somehow got through all of it. It was at this point that I bought a petsafe fence and put the smaller collar on him. We got him all fixed up and secured the fence again but after 3 days with the old collar, dang it if I didn't come home from a walk to find him sitting in my front yard outside the gate. Apparently the prf-275-19's little brother had no effect on him since he ripped the wire in two while digging out underneath the chickenwire barrier and security fence. After getting this collar, I put it on my dog and adjusted it properly. Within a few minutes of him being outside, he went to his old favorite diggin hole and got a jolt. It did make him squeal once but after running away from the fence he was wagging his tail. Shortly after, my wife went for a walk and I saw this dog checking all of his escape routes. He got shocked twice and then gave up and sat near the back door. The real test came last night when a thunderstorm passed by before we could get home and let him in. In the past, this was a sure sign that he would be gone when we got there. We found him a little scared but SAFE in our back yard. I know this sounds moderately cruel but it is a question of safety. If he is inside our fence, he is scared but safe. Outside he is scared and in horrible danger. Not only that but piling up debris or building metal\rock barriers was getting more dangerous than escaping. I should also mention that this is a VERY well trained\behaved dog but when the fear sets in, all that is out the window. This product (so far) has been the ONLY thing to prevent his escaping.
