About a month ago I mounted this to the side of my shed about 2 feet off the ground, using my own 2 1/4" bolts instead of the 7 3/4" bolts that came with it. I was only able to use 3 of the 5 holes when mounting due to where I mounted it on the shed. I have a husky that occasionally give this tie-out a good tug. This thing has worked wonderfully and I've never had a concern with it coming out. The swivel design is really nice and allows my dog to roam all over the yard. I have never had a prolem with the swivel locking up or getting caught on anything. When mowing, it's not difficult to pull line line in and set it off to the side. I highly recommend this if you plan on mounting it to a sturdy structure. ... show more

    • Nearly perfect tie out

I bought this to use with two dogs in a campground setting. One of the dogs is about 70 lbs, the other is only 8 lbs. I needed a tie out that both dogs could be hooked to without tangling up, and this did the job! In addition to this tie out, I added a heavy duty stainless steel ball bearing swivel to hook the two leads to, so that when one dog or the other pulls tight, it automatically untangles.. and it works great! The only concern I had with this was that it would be hard to install and/or uninstall. Even though it holds tight, it's very easy to install by hammering the bolts into the ground. Similarly, to uninstall I used the claw side of a hammer to pry it up and inch or so from the ground. Once it's pried up a little, the bolts will loosen to the point you can pull them out of the ground quite easily by hand. My only complaint is that the two spot welds which hold the ring onto the ball sometimes get wedged and the ball stops rotating around easily. So far it's only happened a few times, and a whack with a hammer appears to fix it, but I'm a little concerned in the long-term. I haven't used it long enough to report on rusting/etc. The ball and ring appear to be stainless but the bolts and the body don't seem to be stainless. Will report back if it rusts more quickly than expected. ... show more

The tie-out part of the package is Excellent. The ‘nails’ were easy to pound in and anchored the swivel part very securely. There is no tangling if the dog runs around a lot like there is with a screw-in anchor. Works great for playing fetch in an unfenced area. My only criticism is that the 20’ cable connectors are quite stiff and it would have been nice if the product description listed the gauge of the different lengths available. Wasn’t sure if this would work for our lab or not, but it works perfectly. Couldn’t be more pleased. Our lab was trying to get at our new alpaca, so now we put him on this cable when the alpaca is out in the field. Was afraid it would come out of the ground when he pulled but that has not happened. Dog has plenty of room to move around so I don’t even feel bad for putting him on it. He doesn’t seem to mind. Very strong cable, and it doesn’t get tangled up…with itself. Now the trees, deck posts, etc are a different story! Super easy to untangle tho. Definitely recommend! ... show more

Item rated for 1000lbs and my Rottweiler put this to the test and the dog won. This is a solid product if it hasn't rained. Easy to install with drill and socket. Rottie tested it to the max and this didn't budge. WARNING: IF IT RAINS AND YOU HAVE A BIG DOG, DON'T USE IT UNTIL GROUND DRIES. After a good rain we connected the dog to this and shortly after, she saw a deer. She took off in a full sprint and ripped this right out of the ground. After finding her in another neighborhood pulling a 50' lanyard and this anchor attached, surprisingly there's still 3 screws that didn't fall out. She ran through the woods to the other side through a neighborhood. I wanted to laugh so hard but fighting not to die from breathing so hard chasing my effing dog. See the picture and notice she bent the 1/4" steel base. If you have a dog like mime, it would be advisable to buy 3x 12" screws and alternate them with the screws it come with. I tried contacting the seller to get 12" screws but got the stupid bot so returned for replacement and I'll buy the 12" screws. I hope this helps. ... show more
