  • As the name implies , it’s spot on !
I purchased the original Spot On collar 2 years ago after the Halo collar wasn’t keeping my Boston terrier contained in the yard and it was also giving corrections while he was in the house and scaring him . Spot On is just that , it’s spot on with its many satellites it offers to constantly keep track of your dog and also giving corrections when the dog gets near their set boundaries to keep them safely contained in the yard to prevent escape. The original spot on works wonders for a dog that is NOT an escape artist but unfortunately my dog is very hard headed and a true escape artist so there was times when he was chasing a cat or wild animal that he did not adhere to his boundary warning tones or the static correction although it was set to the highest level allowed at level 30 . We have a regular chain link fence and once he got over the fence he realized he did the wrong thing once he got over the fence and he wouldn’t go any further than our yard , however I am convinced this collar has saved him from serious injury or even worse more than once so for that I am grateful and believe it’s worth it’s price unlike the Halo collar that did not keep him contained and it didn’t keep him from getting out on the street because it didn’t give corrections at the right time and wasn’t reliable as the spot on is . Now spot on has upgraded to a more powerful gps collar(Nova) especially made for escape artist dogs like mine with more satellites than the original, I believe around 30 more satellites to enhance tracking and for the collar to give more immediate correction to prevent escape no even in blind spot areas which I believe was the issue for him being able to escape a few times with the original collar because it wasn’t tracking him in the blind spot areas of the yard so he didn’t get his corrections until he was on the other side of our fence . I purchased the new version over a week ago , my dog has already tried to cross his boundary chasing a cat but because he got immediate correction at the right time , he turned back around and stayed within his boundary so it’s so far so good . If anyone has a hard headed professional escape artist like I do , I would definitely recommend the Nova over the original version or any other brand out there because it can and will save your dogs life or prevent them from getting lost . It is expensive but the collar is well made and reliable and you really cant put a price on a life . ... show more

  • Big and small areas
Works perfectly! We have multiple places that our dog is now able to freely roam safely. We have a 20 acre farm and now he can be with us every where on our property which is great because he used to run through the buried wire fence to get to be with us if we were down at the barn. Plus we’re able to fence off a few of the areas that get muddy on the farm so he stays clean! And can now leave him with my aunt, who has a small yard in town and our friends who also have a small yard in town, and all we have to do is go on the app and select the fence we want and he’s good to go! Also the collar battery lasts longer than they say and fully charges in only 20 min. Our dog learned where the new boundaries in just a couple of hrs, I guess because of how it gives warning sounds and then vibration and then a shock, he hasn’t escaped from any of the fences and is so much happier now that he can safely be free wherever we go! Bottom line is it’s very durable, very easy to use, fits him great and way less expensive than than buried or traditional fencing. ... show more

  • Constant failure. Stuff should work at this price tag.
Was excited to receive this as we purchased a new home and did not want to enclose it with a fence. Set up the GPS fence and tweaked in order to set up boundaries with the app - this all went fine. Day 1 on doggy training letting her get close to boundary and alert from collar to trigger before moving her away all went well. Charged collar that night and day 2 training to begin. Jeres where problems started. No alerts when near boundary. Nothing. App says fence is active and dog is protected. Nothing tho. Went into app and remapped fences. Ow it works again. Another night of training and collar goes back on charge. Next day. Nothing. Same. Thing. App says fence active - pet protected - no alerts nada. Went into app and relayed our fences again. Product works again. Another day of training but now I am suspicious of this product. Next day. Same thing. Nothing works. App says it’s on. Pet protected. Took dog for a walk off properties. Nothing. I am not resetting the fence line In the app everytime I want to let my dog out. For $1000 this should WORK and not cause frustration. Returning product. Will consider another brand - but honestly kinda soured on these collars for now. ... show more

  • GPS collar used only for location. Dissappointed.
First of all, for the price, I would expect this to work a great amount better than it does. The collar and app syncing for training was splotchy at best, and tech support just sent me an email telling me I had to have the app open… no joke I can read instructions. The signal is hit or miss even with collar continuously on throughout the day and our dog’s position will jump around outside over 30 or so feet from where she is. False corrections, no alerts on, frustration. This is not from lack of training. We have trained every day for multiple sessions each day. She somewhat can tell the boundary now which is great, but no alerts for her escaping is tough. The signal will drift while she is outside seen by screen shots. She shows in the fence one second and out of the fence the next. We are in week 4, and have had multiple breakouts of our GSP puppy, and no notifications or alerts. The only thing we have successfully done is use the GPS and cell subscription to know her general direction. Our dog trainer suggested the educator ECollar, and it is manual, but it has worked wonders Vs. the spot on collar. ... show more

  • Great product for multiple locations!
After a lot of research, we decided to go with SpotOn for our dog Max, and so far we're really happy with our decision! One of the biggest reasons we chose SpotOn is because we needed something that would work in more than one place. At home, we don't have a fenced-in yard, and while Max is a good dog, we still worry about him wandering too close to the road or over to the neighbors property. We also have a camp in northern New Hampshire with a lot of open space, and we loved that we can set up boundaries there too, without having to do anything permanent. After looking into the buried invisible fences and also physical fences, SpotOn was the much more economical option. We also have a duck pond at camp, so the keep-out zones were a really cool feature for us. Max would absolutely think chasing ducks sounds like a great idea, so it's nice knowing we can keep him away from areas we don't want him getting into. Another thing we liked was that the collar can grow with him. Max is still young, and it didn't make sense to buy something he'd outgrow in a few months. Honestly, what sold us was the amount of research we did. We looked at a lot of options, and SpotOn kept coming up when it came to accuracy and reliability. When you're talking about your dog's safety, that wasn't something we wanted to compromise on. Some of the competitors’ options are cheaper, but we live on a main road near the center of town and can’t afford the risk of the GPS fence dropping or getting funky! It also seems like some competitors have mandatory subscriptions for their apps, where SpotOn has some super handy premium features if you want to have the paid subscription, but it also does everything it needs to do with just the collar and the free app. No gimmicks. We also liked that it's made right here in New Hampshire. It feels good supporting a local company, and knowing there are real people behind the product if we ever need help definitely gave us more confidence in making the investment. I’ve heard from a friend who has the previous version of the SpotOn collar that their customer service is phenomenal, but we haven’t had to get help so far! We also were sold knowing that we could get free training support. As first-time users of a GPS fence, it's reassuring to know that help is available if we need it. They do have very helpful videos online that we followed. It definitely takes consistency and training to get your dog accustomed to the alerts, but we’re excited to keep working with Max so we can give him more freedom while still keeping him safe! ... show more

  • Try this collar before you have underground fence installed!
I live in a small town, some trees, houses, etc. the location accuracy seems to work very well. My dog stays in the yard. The only issue I have with the collar is the flexibility for training a puppy. I have a German Shorthaired Pointer ( a little over 3 months old). The way the collar is designed, it creates sort of a V for a dog with smaller necks ie puppies and smaller dogs I assume. I have recently switched from vibration feedback to keep him in the yard after training to static (shock) feedback at a very low level due to his growing curiosity and wanting to leave his area. Also, the strap tucks inside the collar itself, instead of outside like all training collars I’ve ever used. The more “extra” collar you have to tuck into the collar the harder it is to put on my pup. Not a huge issue, but between myself, and multiple family members attempting to put his collar on, it doesn’t work so well. The good news is the older he gets the easier it will get. I think they need to space the battery , tracker, and static prongs into a more circular or flexible arrangement. Maybe sell the collar with an attachment for smaller dogs/ puppies with the larger band for adults. Even if it’s for 20 more dollars. It would make it much better. The app works pretty well. I have some discrepancies with the “ keep out” zones and how they have to be a certain distance from the fence but it’s much better than getting underground fences put in, in my opinion. You can go out in the middle of nowhere, drop a circle or draw your own fences. Visit relatives and make fences for their yards. I would not get an underground fence before you at least try this collar. The only subscription you have to pay for is tracking feature, which is kind of BS to me but I guess I understand the resources it takes to accomplish this, so is probably worth the money, especially if you have a large yard and simply want to know where your dog is. I could elaborate more but my fingers are getting tired. Besides these minor complaints that are keeping it from 5 stars, I would highly recommend this collar to anyone trying to keep their pet in a specific area. I’ll say again, do not install an underground fence before you try it. I initially had my doubts and nearly had underground installed. As of now this is much better. ... show more

  • Worth it!
Worth it! We have a large property and I have two fences set up for around the home and then a 2nd fence for our 60acres. I used orange yard marking flags to help with training and the dogs seemed to easily pick up where the boundary is. I did not use flags over the entire fence boundary just in one area while training on the sounds and hepatics of the fence. The fence definitely gives us peace of mind when we aren’t working the dogs. We have 2 Dobermans, one who likes to roam so it’s nice keeping her on our property! Set up and fitting was easy and the app is very user friendly. I did not hook up to my cell phone carrier subscription, this is how you could live track the dogs movement. We paid one price for the collar and no subscription for the use of the fence. ... show more

  • Rock solid so far
I've been very happy with it. I set up fences at every frequent destination I travel to with the dog and she knows the beep means to turn around. It's not 100% perfect (e.g. - i don't love the charging mchanism, but understand the design choice given the space they have to fit everything in, and you just need to be diligent about plugging it in daily - where the current magnetic charger can sometimes jostle loose), but overall it has been very easy to use, has withstood weather and swimming, and has kept my pup from running up to the road after some squirrels. It even kept her at bay when a bear ran through the yard and she didn't pursue beyond her established zone. I haven't played around much with the extra zones (to keep out of garden, etc) but I am sure that will work as well as the fence and tracking. ... show more
