🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The product, a pet door, received mostly positive reviews from customers due to its functionality and ease of use. Many buyers appreciated how readily their pets adapted to the door, despite some initial reluctance, and praised the door's insulative properties. However, a key issue raised by several customers was the excessive weight and difficulty of opening the door's flaps, particularly for smaller or older pets.

Pros

  • 🐾 Pets generally adapt quickly to using the door
  • 🌤 High insulative properties, minimizing temperature differences
  • 🛠 Sturdy construction and design

Cons

  • 🦮 Door flaps can be too heavy or difficult for smaller or older pets to push open
  • 💪 Cover and door flaps can be a challenge to remove or adjust
  • 🛠 Installation could be seen as tricky for some customers

Should I Buy It?

If you have pets that can manage pushing open the slightly heavier flaps, then this product would be a great addition to your home, especially if you value its insulation properties. However, if your pets are smaller or older, they might struggle to use it and an alternative may be more suitable.

  • Good At Keeping The Weather Out
Style: Plastic Size: Small (Pack of 1)
We have both single flap and this triple flap Extreme Weather PetSafe doors in use in our home. If installing a pet door in a temperature sensitive part of your home you definitely want to use the Extreme Weather door. We have cats, and of course, the Extreme Weather door is a little harder for them to operate. But once they got used to it they go in and out just fine. ... show more

  • Great door that actually insulates well
Style: Plastic Size: Small (Pack of 1)
This was easy to install! The only concern is the extra insulation panel does make it harder for my 10lb terrier to push through. It's been harder to get him to go through this one compared to the last one I had that wasn't insulated. I believe he'll figure it out but it's taking more time than expected. Overall, definitely recommend! ... show more

  • Worked out great for our 14lb cat
Style: Plastic Size: Small (Pack of 1)
The media could not be loaded. We installed this in the door that leads from the garage to the back yard for our cat. We took the door off the hinges, drilled holes in the corners of where the opening was going to be and sawed that part out using a reciprocating saw with a blade suited for metal and wood. We had to remove the face plate and adjust the middle insulated flap a couple times to where it would swing freely without getting caught on the bottom but it worked out in the end. It took a long time of keeping the flaps up before our cat got bold enough to push through a flap but he finally got it…some fried chicken was involved. The video is of him going thru it on the same day it was installed, with flaps up. ... show more

  • Great product and design with minor drawback for cats
Style: Plastic Size: Small (Pack of 1)
Bought this for my 16 year old cat to put in the door between a finished, heated room and unfinished basement where his litterbox is located. The install was very easy using the template on an interior door and everything went together smoothly. The energy efficiency is great as it seals and insulates well (probably better than the hollow core door it's installed in!!). One negative is that my cat has a difficult time pushing the flaps open due to his age, but after some training and a little coercion, he uses it, with reservation. The manual suggested that the flaps can be adjusted. I found that there is very little play as the flaps seal tightly along the frame and one could actually make the opening force worse by adjusting it incorrectly. Taking the flaps completely out and putting them back in proved to be very difficult because of blind screw holes that need to be aligned. The directions make it sound simple to replace the flaps, which I did not find to be true. All being said, this is a great product and would recommend for indoor uses as well as outdoor. Small dogs will have no issue pushing the flaps open, some cats may struggle. ... show more

  • Cats figured out how to use this pretty quickly
Style: Plastic Size: Small (Pack of 1)
We bought this so the cats could access their new outdoor enclosure (Catio). This was a critical component to the project. It works very well and the cats figured out how to use it pretty easily. Since there are three panels the manufacturer suggested using duct tape to hold of the middle and inner doors so the cats could get used to pushing through just on door. After a few days we let them get through two and after about five days they easily figured out how to push through all three weatherproof doors. It works great. We have not used it during a Michigan winter yet but I suspect it will insulate pretty well since it is very high quality. ... show more

  • Great product
Style: Plastic Size: Small (Pack of 1)
Installed this in the door going out to my garage so I could keep my cat's food out there so my German Shepherd would stop eating the cat's food. Two of us are happy anyway. The dog, not so much since he can't make it out to the cat's food.

  • Works great
Style: Plastic Size: Small (Pack of 1)
The installation was straightforward. The 3 flaps work well to insulate from the cold. We have 3 cats and 1 dog. All under 15 lbs. They were all pretty stubborn and wouldn't go through the door so we had to tape up 2 flaps for a few weeks, then reduce it to one flap another few weeks. The cats took about a month to learn. We thought our dog would never learn but eventually she was able to go in and out on her own after a few months and several training sessions. We dog sat for our neighbor and that dog leaned to use the door instantly all 3 flaps no problem! Every animal is different, just need to be patient. ... show more

  • Best purchase for cats that go outside!
Style: Plastic Size: Small (Pack of 1)
I researched a TON of cat doors and wanted one that was insulated because I live in Maine and didn't want to be losing heat through a cat door, but wanted to be able to go away for a few days and not have to worry about keeping cats inside when they all would prefer to go out. I have 3 cats, and they all figured out how to use this within DAYS! I initially taped up the outside and inside flaps so they just had to push through the insulated flap and coaxed them through by holding it open so they could see outside. After a day of that I put down one flap, and then the 2nd flap. My female was the first to fly through the whole thing, and eventually the 2 boys figured it out. My 15 year old was the most hesitant, but likes to be outside the most. After sitting in front of the door for awhile as you can see in the picture he pushed the corner with his paw followed by his head and then jumped through really quick. I know other reviews have said they wish it was all completely clear, but hello you can't make insulation clear, and the cats can SMELL the outside just fine, so once they go through a few times they will have no problems. My only gripe is that sometimes when they go through from inside to outside the flap doesn't completely close on the outside as you can see from the picture, but when I put my hand around the door I can't feel any coldness! Although my boyfriend hated every second of the install, my cats are LOVING having the freedom to come and go as they please! This is an absolute MUST if you have cats that like to go outside and you're looking for an insulated pet door. Just for reference my cats range from 10-14 pounds with no issues fitting through door. ... show more
