When we built our house we requested a doggie door/cat door in our door to the back yard. This is the one they installed. Ours gets used by a small dog and 2 cats. It gets used A LOT. In the five years that we've lived here we've replaced it 3 times. So with heavy use it'll last about a year before something breaks on it. And that's fine. It's inexpensive and plastic. The one thing I dislike is when installing it, it's very difficult to line up the screw with the nut. It's hard to explain. You'll see what I mean. If you're installing it for the first time it's probably not going to be a big deal because you'll have the door off and maybe up on saw horses to cut out the hole. But when you replace it like I've done a few times now, it's quite a PITA. Good product. Good luck everybody else! 🤣 ... show more

requires considerable time to put in since you must cut a hole in the door and a metal door is harder to cut than an all wood door. but it is a real convenience, having your pet let it's self outside. a large or aggressive dog may force his head through, causing the door to crack or break loose.

This product has been really great. I love being able to let the cats go in to the garage as they please. No more food or litter in the house! Makes me so happy. Install was pretty straight forward. We didn’t take the door off the hinges. Just took it nice and slow, very slow. The cats adjusted to the door very quickly. I had one cat I worried about cause he’s afraid of everything and has beans for brains. But he was ok with it. The only thing we had to modify was we took the magnet out to make the door easier for them to open. It was pretty strong and they didn’t understand how it worked at first. Once they were confident we added it back. My only complaint is that idk that it’s “weatherproof”. It seems drafty to me but it’s ok cause it’s just to our enclosed garage but I doubt I’d want it on an exterior door without adding some sort of gap filler or insulation. I would buy this product again because it fits my needs very well. ... show more

This the second one of his cat door that I’ve put on my door into the garage. The only big downside to this cat door as you definitely need more than one person to install it. Once you get it installed properly, it works perfectly.

My cat is big, he gets through this door ✅, the weather stripping has a better seal than most of the doors, not perfect but better, the door magnet is strong and keeps the door closed. The down side is you need to cut a plastic tunnel piece this part is not to bad, determining the height is a bit tricky. The worst part is aligning the two pieces and holding the lock nuts in place. I eventually temporarily taped them on the other side to hold them in place. The tunnel makes it difficult to align them using the correct length screws. The package contains many lengths. I installed this my self, with two people this process should be easier. I installed this on a board cut to fit a window so it was easier, my cats go through this to get to their Catio. So far this is the best door out there, great value for the money, installation can be a bit tricky but worth it. * A note for the manufacturer, add guides for feeding the mounting hardware through easier, you lost one star for this otherwise you have a 5 star product. ... show more

I installed this exact pet door by PetSafe 13 years ago when I built my home. I was surprised to see the same item in the same size still available. This was very convenient because it was originally installed inside a wall and not a door. So no extra work needed to be done to replace it. I simply unscrewed the old one and replaced it with the new one. The original door survived 13 years and was the only passage to the litterboxes of my 5 cats! If you can imagine…every day 5 cats passing through this door several times per day…for 13 years! The only reason I replaced it was because I wanted a nice clean new look. The old one was still working perfectly but the felt seal had long since worn away from weekly cleanings. However, the locks and swinging mechanism still performed perfectly. The lock options are great for holding my kitties in their litterbox room when I have company or when I have construction guys inside my home who might accidentally leave a door open. I just flip the lock to allow the cats to go inside their room, but not be able to leave it. If I flip the lock the night before, all of my felines will have made their way inside by themselves by the next morning which eliminates the drama of catching and placing them in the hold room manually. They do it themselves! lol! That said, as with the original, I had to remove the metal clip in the door because my cats can’t/won’t force it open. They assume it’s locked, so I have to remove the metal clip that attracts itself to the built in magnet and now it swings naturally. Sometimes when the wind is blowing, the door will swing open but most of the time it stays closed from just gravity. Works well and was easy to install. The magnet is too strong for my cats, but maybe they'll get used to it. The biggest drawback is that it looks like a toilet seat.
