I installed this exact pet door by PetSafe 13 years ago when I built my home. I was surprised to see the same item in the same size still available. This was very convenient because it was originally installed inside a wall and not a door. So no extra work needed to be done to replace it. I simply unscrewed the old one and replaced it with the new one. The original door survived 13 years and was the only passage to the litterboxes of my 5 cats! If you can imagine…every day 5 cats passing through this door several times per day…for 13 years! The only reason I replaced it was because I wanted a nice clean new look. The old one was still working perfectly but the felt seal had long since worn away from weekly cleanings. However, the locks and swinging mechanism still performed perfectly. The lock options are great for holding my kitties in their litterbox room when I have company or when I have construction guys inside my home who might accidentally leave a door open. I just flip the lock to allow the cats to go inside their room, but not be able to leave it. If I flip the lock the night before, all of my felines will have made their way inside by themselves by the next morning which eliminates the drama of catching and placing them in the hold room manually. They do it themselves! lol! That said, as with the original, I had to remove the metal clip in the door because my cats can’t/won’t force it open. They assume it’s locked, so I have to remove the metal clip that attracts itself to the built in magnet and now it swings naturally. Sometimes when the wind is blowing, the door will swing open but most of the time it stays closed from just gravity. I like the multiple type of locking function. This way we can lock it to where cats can come in in the evening but not go back out till we unlock it the next morning. We also lock it from in and out after the 2 cats come in so no unexpected creatures can get into our garage. It was fairly easy to install. We were able to put it in the bottom of our overhead garage door like we wanted to. Cats learned within a couple hours how to go in and out. It looks good and not really noticeable in our overhead garage door like we were hoping. It’s only been in a couple weeks and are happy with it. Especially glad we don’t have to leave our overhead door open at the bottom for cats to go in and out all day Our garage got snakes in it in the summer and full of leaves and mice coming in through the fall (luckily our 2 cats kill the mice) it also cut down tremendously the cold air coming in the garage. We are very satisfied with this product and highly recommend it. ONLY thing is the little plastic door for the first week was fairly stiff and not shutting completely in or out. I recently purchased this cat door, and overall, it has proven to be a great addition to our home for our feline friend. However, there were a few challenges we encountered along the way. Firstly, I must say that this cat door requires a bit of training for your cat. Our furry companion took some time to get used to it, but with patience and positive reinforcement, she eventually got the hang of it. The installation process had its share of hiccups as well. It's a task that's much easier when you have two people working on it. There's a crucial point where you need to ensure that all the pieces are perfectly aligned and snapped together. This part was a bit tricky, and it required some additional effort. However, once we got it installed properly, the end result was well worth it. Despite these minor challenges, the cat door functions wonderfully once in place. Our cat now has the freedom to come and go as she pleases, and we appreciate the convenience it offers us as pet owners. It's sturdy and has provided a secure entrance for our cat. In conclusion, while the installation process can be a bit challenging, this cat door is a fantastic investment for any cat owner. It took a little while for all three cats to learn how to use the door. One cat is a little 'dense' and still (after several months) rams it several times with her head before trusting it enough to come through. The door is installed in a window and allows the kitties to pass into their splendid little catio. The cat door is installed in a window far enough under a wrap around porch so rain is not an issue. It seems fairly weatherproof and doesn't allow a lot of wind to blow in unless it gets stuck partially open. If you don't clean the felt perimeter often, cat hair tends to stick in the fiber around the door to allow a "hair clog" that can keep the door open a few inches. That may not be an issue with short haired cats but I have three hairy beasts. The cat door also saved me from calling a locksmith when I locked myself out of the house one night. I was able to enter the catio, remove the cat door and squeeze myself through the hole. The cats were very confused. ... show more

The plastic this is made out of is thicker than most, the door does not slam shut and has a magnet that keeps it lined up closed unless the wind is very strong. Overall this one will last a long time.
