I have many animals, but 3 who love to drink from the same bowl and it was always dry when I came home from work. I bought 4 of these but the one in the kitchen gets all the use. I have discovered that you have to put water in the bottom bowl then put the full bottle on top so it pushes up the autofilling cap on the bottle. When I travel and the cats have to be alone a couple days I have these everywhere in addition to other full big bowls. I know no one is thirsty. I have a cat who likes to pull the water bowl toward her and slap the water. The weight of the bottle keeps the bowl in place so I don't have a wet floor all the time. The dog loves this too. I bought one of these and it works great. I figured since they are dishwasher safe I should buy another so we can wash one and swap to the other one. So after getting the new one I placed the older one in the dishwasher for the first time. Well the top part that holds water did not survive. As seen in the pictures. I have the .75 smaller version if it matters. I only used the top shelf in the dishwasher and I did not use extra heat for drying.
