Simply add two pumps of our brushless oral care water additive to 1 qt. (4 cups) of fresh drinking water and mix. Completely flavorless, your pet will be protecting their oral health with every lap of water. A convenient and simple solution to cat and dog teeth cleaning, Oratene cat and dog teeth cleaning water additive is recommended for all pets in need of gentle, non-drying everyday oral care, especially if they have an aversion to normal teeth brushing. Oratene Water Additive is suitable for cats and dogs of all ages. One 4 oz bottle will yield 15 gallons. Oratene brushless oral care products contain two enzyme systems that are antibiotic-free, yet effective on a broad range of harmful bacteria that can cause oral health problems. Enzymes are naturally occurring proteins and our enzyme systems are based on 40 years of advanced enzyme technology. Our LP3 Enzyme System is a natural anti-inflammatory, antibacterial alternative to antibiotics that helps reduce the odor-causing bacteria responsible for bad breath. The MD2 Enzyme System makes plaque unable to bind to the surface of the teeth. This keeps your pet’s mouth cleaner and healthier. Oratene Water Additive cat and dog breath freshener contains no xylitol, a sweetener that is 100 times more toxic to dogs than chocolate. This works! Just buy it! Greatly improved my cats gums and breath. I mix a container up ahead. I make sure to dump the day before water into another bowl so she has emergency water available and then everyday I rinse her bowl clean and give her a fresh, small bowl. I don't see any mold on even the old reservoir water and her breath has gone from totally disgusting to no smell at all..even when she meows in my face. She loves the water...drinks more now than ever. She feels better, too! I can tell from the way she acts and she doesn't drool anymore. I tasted a drop of it from the container and it's sweet but when mixed with the water, there is no discernible taste. She is a domesticated feral cat so going to the vet is only for shots and emergency and she's too old for surgery. This has given her back her oral health for sure! ... show more

This product knocked my socks off. It is no exaggeration when I say that we have tried everything in the last five years and this is the only product that works. We have a senior greyhound with terrible teeth, she has already had two dentals and due to health issues cannot have another one...... Due to the fact that we cannot put her under again, the teeth that she has have to stay with her. Her breath got to the point where it was unbearable to get within 1 foot of her and this is about the fourth fresh breath product I have tried in the last few years. Much to our surprise, the odor started to fade THE FIRST DAY we used it! It used to be so bad that I would have to air out our car after she came for a ride with us because of the bad odor in the car. We are into our third week of using it and are shocked by how well it works and what an amazing job it did on the mouth odor. The most important thing with this product is to be absolutely diligent and follow the instructions right down to the letter. Because she is not a big water drinker, and because she normally have to have a lot of water with her food to soften it, I add the enzyme to a bowl of water first and then put the food in so that she gets the “ Splashing on the teeth“ effect. It took me a little while to figure out the best way we could use it but it turned out to work out beautifully. Remember that this product only works if it’s splashes around in their mouth, so for us it worked out beautifully. I've been using Oratene's Drinking Water Additive for my 8 year old pit-mix for about 2 weeks now. I was drawn to this product because it appears to be the veterinary line produced by Biotene, which is a human mouthwash that I have sworn by for years. After trying another water additive a while back, I was reluctant to try any others. It had been minty flavored (not in itself a downside, except that I think my dog was opposed to the flavor) and it caused the water to foam. Suffice it to say, my pup wouldn't get NEAR that water. That was probably a year ago, and recently I decided to look for another product to hopefully help combat her bad breath. Her teeth are in great shape, and she has been given a Dentastix snack every night since she was a puppy, but all the same, her breath is pretty off-putting. It doesn't take much of the Oratene per bowl of water - so it feels like the 4 oz. bottle it will probably last a while, even with using it (*ahem* when I remember) in two separate bowls (I keep one with her food, and one in my bedroom so she can get a drink at night if she's thirsty). I was immediately pleased to discover that it does NOT make the water foam, nor does it have a smell. In fact, my pup doesn't seem to notice it's there at all, and she continues to drink from the bowls. I have seen some improvement in her breath, and I think I'll likely see more once I get better about putting the Oratene in her bedroom bowl as well - as she actually favors that bowl in general. Overall, I'm very pleased with this product, and I anticipate keeping it on hand at all times. I will update this review once I've been consistently putting the Oratene in -both- water bowls so I can give a better idea as to how effective it has been. ... show more

    • Not so Impressive Anymore!
I've waited six months to write this review to verify if it works or not and the results are impressive. My cat had a dental cleaning a few years ago and all the thick tartar build-up eventually returned so I decided to try this product. Bad breath was gone within a week and after three months there was about a 50% reduction in tartar. I decided to then buy Greenies Dental Treats for Cats to hopefully help scrape off the remaining tartar. The combination of using both has now removed 90% of the tartar after another three months. The redness and slight swelling of the gums has also disappeared. My cat even likes the taste of the water and seems to be drinking more water since using this additive. I use one pump for every two cups of water and try to change the water every morning. Wish I would have taken a before and after picture to show the improvement difference because the results are pretty amazing with no brushing of the teeth. Edit on 01/03/2014: A few months ago my cats stopped wanting to drink their water with this additive. I tried changing the water every day but it would still get slime build up in the bowl. I've since switched to Synergy Dental Fresh and they are drinking their water again and there has been no slime in the water. I'm not sure how effective Synergy Dental Fresh will be compared to this product. ... show more

If there are any pet owners who are concerned about dental hygiene for their pets but have trouble “brushing their teeth”, I would recommend this product. I’m a cat owner myself and because I do get concerned about my cat’s health, I try to keep up with all the necessaries. Since I’ve used this product my cat hasn’t had any bad reactions and I’ve gotten good results from the vet. I would definitely recommend it to others ... show more

If you own a pet then you need this to help keep their teeth clean! My vet recommended it to me a couple of years ago & it’s made a huge difference in the health of their teeth. My vet said it helps stop plaque build up on their teeth & I believe him. Before I’d spend $800 per dog every year just to get their teeth cleaned, now they go every 18 months. Hey, if it saves me THAT much money then I’m happy to keep spending $18 every couple of months. Very easy product to use, just put it in their water, stir and it does the rest for you. There’s no smell. The dogs & even the cat don’t seem to know it’s in their water. So win, win! ... show more

A couple days after I started adding this to my dogs water per the directions he got really sick, won't eat and throwing up water. If not better tomorrow I will be calling our vet. I can't say for certain its the water additive, but it seems like it could be.
