  • Great tool!
I have struggled separating the ball joint in order to replace struts and axles on my Honda vehicles. There is a much more expensive Mac tool available and referenced in the shop manual. This tool is quite sturdy and does the job quickly and easily.

  • Worked on an Audi A4 B5
I bought this to press out the ball joint in the front left lower rearward control arm (a.k.a. Guide Link) in an Audi A4 B5. The slot in this tool was too narrow to slide all the way in, but I was able to get enough contact area at the tips to be successful on the second attempt. I followed others' advice - I tensioned this tool, and used a regular claw hammer to hit the control arm a few times. The ball joint popped right out with only a few medium hits, and I was already prepared for the loud bang with hearing protection on. Also like someone else noted, the bolt has changed - there is no longer a 1/2" drive socket, and now has a much larger 24mm lag bolt head. Luckily I had a 24mm socket in my toolbox. Lastly, this tool is Made in China, but surprisingly well-made and very comparable in quality to the Made in Taiwan tools I typically buy from AutoZone. I gave it 4 stars because of the undersized slot, and the loss of a 1/2" socket drive as shown in the Amazon photo. ... show more

  • Just get a pickle fork
Thought I would give this a try after a friend suggested it. It bent the pin and snapped it off. The pin is bent so bad that I can only get it out as far as it is out in the pic. After that happened, I got out my pickle forks and a 4lb maul and it was loose in 5 good whacks.

  • Very easy to use
Used this to separate my tie rod end from the steering nuckle. Very easy to use, and won't damage your tie rod boot like a pickle fork can. Tool is heavy and well made. As others have noted, it no longer has the recessed allen head, just a plain hex.

  • Tough job? Get a heavier duty tool.
Good price for this tool. I got it for my Range Rover, but that job was too much for it. I tightened it all the way; it didn't break into pieces as I kind of expected, but the fork part actually bent about 40 degrees. Not fit for the tougher job...

  • Looks to be well made but the U shaped opening is not wide enough for 2003 Honda Accord lower ball joint
Looks to be well made but I am very disappointed that the opening of the top piece is too small to go around the ball joint stud on a 2003 Honda Accord. Just needs to be about one eighth wider to work. Had to obtain and use another tool to do the job.

  • Worthy Ball Joint separator
There appears to be another minor running change to the actual delivered product. The bolt is still 5/8" thread strong hardened bolt, but now driven by 15/16" hex size. The internal square drive option that has been eliminated is not necessary. The product continues to be a great tool per existing reviews. The two available operating ranges defined by two pivot selection creates two ideal ranges. The small range for outer tie rod ball joints. The larger range for lower ball joints. The pivot pin is also of hardened steel with a knurled head for easy pulling, and retained in the tool by a spring-loaded ball at the end without the knurl head. Still present is the steel ball pressed into the tip of the operating bolt for low friction operation, while accommodating a shifting contact point as necessary for pivoting motion. ... show more

  • Worked as described.
Okay so I attempted to change the dampers on my car only to encounter tie rods that were tightened so much they seemed to have fused to the shock housing. When beating the sh!t out of it with a hammer failed I decided to arm myself with more appropriate tools. Jumped on amazon and found this. It got the job done with relative ease almost effortlessly one could say. Giving it a 4 because it did what it was designed, not giving it all 5 because it seems a bit poorly assembled and its limited in regards to its actual use (if your joints span above about six inches and you buy this you are fked.
