The battery in my car decided to just up and die on me the other day, so I had to have my father come over to give me a jump. The only pair of jumpers that I have are VERY short and very thin cable, so we used my fathers. After at least 20 minutes of sitting there, the engine still wouldn't turn. I checked his cables out with my multimeter and they were showing very low voltage! Luckily he also had a backup portable jumper. I decided it was time to invest in a good set of cables to carry in the car, and a set to give my father. I fortunately (or unfortunately) have not had a chance to test these out yet but they seem to be well made, good heavy cable. Only odd thing is the cable itself is black and yellow, not black and red, but the handles are black and red so that is what matters anyway. The cables are also nice and long so no more pulling up and getting the cables out, only to find out you need to spin the car around because your cables are too short! ... show more

The Wilmar W1671 Twelve Foot Eight-Gauge Jumper Cables are excellent, particularly at this price point. In addition to the sizable gauge (the lower the number the better) wire and high amperage rating, they are long and flexible. They have fully insulated clamps that reduce the electrocution hazard considerably, as I bought these to replace an old, open set that lacked adequate insulation on the clamps (I never got bit, but was always pretty nervous about them). The clamps have perpendicular rows of teeth that help attach to your battery terminals with ease. These are well made cables similar to others costing 1 1/2 to 2 times the price. ... show more

When you are broken down you can always find someone willing to help but not everyone has cables. I used them to help a coworker get home when her car wouldn't start. These cables do the trick when needed. They are very easy to use.

    • Fantastic Cables So Far. Used Twice To Start Vehicles Where Other Cables Failed

Not all Jumper Cables are created equal. I've used these twice to jump start friends vehicles and in both of those situations, the other person had their own lower quality jumper cables in their vehicle which we tried at first and would not provide enough current to get their vehicle to start, but switching over to my cables (these Performance Tool 4-gauge 20' ones) their vehicles started without needing to sit around and wait very long or at all for the battery to charge. They seem to retain their flexibility enough to use in cold weather and they hold current very well for a cheaper cable without getting too hot. They can be a bit messy to stuff back in the box that they came in for storage in the vehicle after they have been removed and used for the first time and it would be nice to have a cheap case of some sort to store them in, but this is still a bargain for the price and overall quality of the cables. The clamps seem to grab and hold quite well, don't feel flimsy or weak at all and appear to be attached to the wires in secure fashion. These are not rubber coated cables as pictured, rather they come coated in a glossy plastic. That being said they are very flexible and imagine they will remain so even when cold. I emailed the seller and they indicated that all the ones on the shelf are of this new coating type and evidently the manufacturer changed at some point and has not updated their images (and thus they will not update theirs). See the the picture of the 4GA 500A cables for an accurate representation of the actual coating. All that being said, they are heavy gauge, with a very flexible coating and great multi-bite clamp ends. I bought two pairs and despite the discrepancy in the images, I think I'll continue to buy these as needed. ... show more
