I bought the Pentax binoculars because of the light transmission promised by the BAK4 Prism and the FMC lenses. I was not dis appointed. My previous binocular was also 10x50 but the lens was coated and the prism was not bak4. The Pentax is definately brighter although heavier than I expected. Excellent optics. The 10X means it's hard to hold still enough by hand so bracing against something is useful. I'm an old school photographer so I have a nice wooden tripod...wow, it really shows their sharpness. I like using a monopod to be portable and fairly stable. The glass in these binoculars is fantastic for the price. The images are clear and crisp. My only complaint (and it's a small one) is that the case does not have a strap. The binoculars do, but not the case.

When I received the binoculars ( which were 10 x 50. Not 8 x 40. The box had the seal cut. While I checked the item I did not catch the problem. I purchased these for a family trip to Yellowstone National Park, this last week. Upon first use I was adjusting the binoculars to fit my inter pupil distance . I felt a soft pop and notice that the left side lens housing had partially separated in the middle and was loose. I stopped using them. Ruined part of the trip. We are now in Glacier and I have no binoculars . I will contact AMAZON Customer service once we get to our hotel and see what can be done. They were not dropped or mishandled in any way. I have a set of Pentax 12X50 binoculars and am fully aware of how to use them. They never left the pouch until we were on the park. Disappointing for sure . Will see if the vendor will back up their service quality ... show more

These broke after 2 months use, after the Amazon return period expired. I was holding them by the primaries and the left lens housing broke off in my hand. These were never dropped and were always stored carefully, so I am left holding the bag for this defective product.
