I love the Bobbi Brown books.. This one is a book I read once, but continue to go back to it as a constant reference. I have been using her technique from way back to her first book. I like her approach in this book to include a lot of makeup looks that each person can relate to. Once you identify a certain look, albeit classic or sporty for example, she shows you a very achievable makeup technique, best colors for you to wear daytime looks and segue into a nighttime look! I am in my mid-fifties and forever grateful to Bobbi Brown for noticing my age group and older for what we are (older) with different needs and problems than a 14 year old model, and for giving us age specific make up advice, training, and showing us how we can look gorgeous with the right colours and technique. However I would greatly appreciate a book exclusively for old women like me and older, with even more examples and inspirations, and with more adventurous, bolder make up techniques, on top of the very 'safe' natural ideas she is giving us in her previous books (I have all tree!!!). I bought this for my 12 year old daughter for Christmas. She loves it. The combination of "regular" people and celebrities is nice, the text engaging, and the actual make-up tips useful. There's a little quiz in the 1st section to determine whether you are "pretty natural" but none for the other "pretty" categories in the book; not sure why not. There are some rather self-indulgent photos of BB and what I guess are her besties, but otherwise, it's a wonderful book. You can't keep most girls from loving make-up and self-adornment, no matter how much character building you do. This book at least emphasizes both your outside beauty to your inside beauty. ... show more

This is a wonderful book combining great "how-to's" for applying makeup and choosing the right shades with stories behind amazing women wearing those looks. Bobbi Brown creates looks for real women. The whole book is a testament to how makeup can enhance the natural beauty that all women possess. It is about self-acceptance and empowerment and feeling good about who you are. he women represented in the book were diverse and all beautiful in their own ways. Reading this book is a bit like have Bobbi there to talk to. I have seen her on TV and love her common sense ideas about beauty and I also love the natural beauty she has and the other she has included in her book

I love Bobbi Brown. I love her products. I have enjoyed her other books. I had high expectations for Pretty Powerful. But I was very disappointed. It is just a rehash of all her other books. There isn't much new in it. Maybe I just didn't get it, but I think the book is very bland and certainly wasn't what I expected. ... show more
