  • Cable shutter release
I perchased this item as I have a Pentax D20 slr. The camera has a flip up mirror feature that has only a 2 seconed delay on the timer witch is not nearly long enof to avoid camera shake. By useing the Fn adjustments on the back of the camera and the 2 mirror lock up, NOT the remote release option, the cameras mirror lock up will still work just fine but you will not have to physically touch the camera. That alone makes this a must for anyone who uses long exsposures. I dont know about ony other camera this will work but the others were probably smart enof to have a longer delay time on the mirror lock up feature. The only real problem with this is It is not exactly built durable. Its plastic, enof said, and the cord could be much longer. Also comes with a lock feature for the shutter in general, a plus if you need it. It does the job I needed it for so I gave a good rating. Just treat it nicely without alot of abuse. ... show more

  • Pentax CS 205 Cable Release
Received the CS 205 Shutter release cable for my Pentax K20D. I have only shot a half dozen photo's indoors with it thus far. Works fine. The K20d's Auto Focus focuses when the shutter button is pressed half way down. My only gripes are (1)that the cord could be longer. (2) The button could be designed with a large tang for better grip when trying to release the button from the locked position. I guess as the switch wears it will be easier to push back to release from the locked position. (3) The end that plgus into the camera could be a straight plug instead of being a 90 degree end. There is very little room to grip the plug end as the access door is right there and people with big fingers might have difficulty unplugging the cord. I've included several pictures up above. ... show more

  • Bye, Bye Camera Shake!
Works great - I'm so happy to have this for my K20D. I am not sure why someone would want it to be longer than it is - it's plenty long for what I need - in fact, I don't think I'd want it to be much longer than it is, but I guess I can understand why some might complain. It is easy enough to plug in and unplug - if it were too easy it might not stay in! I considered getting an off-brand, cheaper version, but I decided to go with this one as this is an important (though simple) piece of equipment, and I wanted the best quality I could get. ... show more

  • The Pentax Cable Switch Lasted Only a Few Uses and Failed Today During a Critical Shoot
After purchasing the Opteka cable switch and having it lose its focusing function in less than a year, I decided to buy the Pentax switch. I wasn't quite sure what the other reviewers were saying about the Pentax cable being too short, the length seems to be just fine. The Pentax cable switch seems to be working OK, including the focusing function. We'll see if this continues for a while and how well it holds up. B. Scholles p.s. The Pentax cable switch failed today while shooting a critical kayak race with a 500mm lens mounted on a tripod. Had to bump up the ISO and shoot hand held! Damn! I'm going to go to Radio Shack, see if I can buy a new pin adapter and make my own freaking switch. Not happy. July 7, 2012. B. Scholles Don't waste your money buying ANY direct connected release. Instead, buy a wireless remote. Much more reliable AND cheaper. ... show more

  • Extendable!
If you don't like the short length of the cable you can extend it by getting an extension cable. This is just a standard stereo cable but it works with the cable release. I bought this one: 12 foot 2.5mm extension cable and it works great. The male end doesn't "snap in" on the camera, but it isn't loose enough to fall out. I've used the cable release with the extension a couple of times and it works great. I imagine you could probably chain them if you wanted to be really far from the camera, but I haven't tried it. Overall, a great and useful tool. ... show more

  • A cord with an additional 12 inches would be perfect.
The remote switch works as expected. My only wish is for a longer cord. I take a lot of crowd photos by elevating the camera on a monopod. A cord with an additional 12 inches would be perfect.

  • Does what It's supposed to do
I recommend this for anyone who uses a digital camera. The cord is a bit short if you need to move a way from camera. I bought an extension for my camera. Reason why only 4 stars. But for the price your not going to be disappointed with this handy little tool.

  • Good while it worked....bummer
Mine lasted about 7 years...I have only used is less than 10 times though. I guess some materials inside got old crumbled. I am getting a third party one for less than $10 this time.
