    • Works on old desktop running Windows XP

I have a Gateway desktop that's about 20 years old on which I loaded some old games for my grandkids to play. They are 7 and 8 and are used to playing games with a controller. Trying to use the keyboard commands was a struggle for them. The PC runs Windows XP and since it no longer has access to the Internet or wifi I needed a wired game controller. I have discovered that wired controllers are hard to come by these days so I grabbed this one as soon as I saw it. The controller would not work when I first connected it and when I checked the manual that came with it, the instructions said if running WinXP, I had to download XBox 360 controller driver. Great. So I had to download it to a flashdrive on my laptop first before I could install it on the desktop PC. But once the driver was installed, it mostly worked fine. I say mostly because I couldn't get a few of the buttons to work. Since I am not a gamer and know very little about controllers, it's possible they MIGHT work for someone who does. I went through Windows device manager to figure out which buttons corresponded with which numbers and functions. The Home, Select and Turbo buttons were the only ones that did not match up with any of the numbers or functions available in Windows. But there were still a lot of buttons left and they all worked fine. I configured the controller to work with Sonic Heroes, Moorhuhn Kart (challenging to figure out controls because game is in German, lol), Frogger and Frogger 2. The controller worked with all the games. I ran out of time so didn't get a chance to try it out on Toy Story or Legoland. I can't compare it to PS or XBox controllers because as I said, I am not a gamer and am not familiar with how those controllers function. But I am quite pleased with its performance so far and am excited that my grandkids now have a controller that is compatible with these old games. ... show more

The inclusion of the joystick caps was nice and added a good feel to them when used. The basic joysticks worked well, but the caps make them feel better and easier to control, IMO. This controller has a nice weight to it and the buttons feel good to the touch. The triggers are smooth and none of the buttons seem to get stuck even when pressing on them from various angles. The buttons and gamepads have good resposiveness and don't seem to have any noticeable delays. The cord length is OK with the quality seeming to be good so far. We'll see as time goes on and it's used more for how durable it is. ... show more

This controller works fine, it is the build quality and layout that I have an issue with. First, the design....the front LED is distracting and is way too large. Having such a large LED requires that other buttons, namely select and start, needed to be moved. This can make it non-intuitive to press. Build quality also leaves something to be desired. While the controller performs adequately, the fit and finish of parts are lacking. Basically, a cheaply made, well-performing controller at an inexpensive price. ... show more

If you are looking for a PC gamepad that will be recognized as an Xbox controller, but prefer the symmetrical joysticks of a PlayStation controller, this one will do the job without breaking the bank. (However, you might consider one of the PS4/PS5 controller-to-PC wireless adapters that are also available, though those require some setup and tweaking.) The controller installed seamlessly on Windows 10 and was immediately visible in my Devices list. Launching a Steam game, it was recognized there as an Xbox controller. Playing through one of my favorite games, control was precise and responsive. The joysticks feel solid and comfortable. Adjusting the controller sensitivity and buttons in Steam worked exactly as expected. There are a few annoyances, however. The plastic seam at the very bottom of the two grips was a little sharp on the left side of my controller, which proved distracting and annoying — I’ll probably end up hitting it with some 200 grit sandpaper but this is something I’ve NEVER had to do on a controller before! The input mode LED lights seem to be always lit up due to light bleeding — the “on” ones are only slightly brighter and hard to tell apart from the “off” ones. Also, the cable is just under 6’ long and a bit too short for a wired controller. Of course, a USB extension cable will fix this but it would have been nice to have a longer cable straight out of the box. TIP: Leave the controller in the default “X-input Mode” (with the first two red LED lights on) for it to be recognized as an Xbox controller in Steam (see screenshot). Setting it to “D-input Mode” will cause it to be recognized as a PlayStation 3 controller which will certainly work, but I found that a little harder to configure and adjust in Steam. ... show more
